Ladies, this is why your vote matters. do it for them.

A Message for all women

THIS IS MOVING.  HOW QUICKLY WE FORGET......IF ....WE EVER KNEW......

WHY WOMEN SHOULD VOTE

This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.

Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote.

And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of 'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'

They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.
  LUCY BURNS

They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.

Thus unfolded the 'Night of Terror' on Nov. 15, 1917when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because
they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right to vote. For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.
  ALICE PAUL

When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

So, refresh my memory. Some women won't vote this year because why, exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work?  Our vote doesn't matter? It's raining?  We have something better to do with our time?

HBO's has a
movie  entitled 'Iron Jawed Angels.' It is a graphic depiction of the battle these women waged so that we can pull the curtain at the polling booth and have our say. For some,
the actual act of voting had become less personal... more rote.  Frankly, voting often felt more like an obligation than a privilege. Sometimes it was inconvenient.

One women said that she was angry...... She was--with herself. 'One thought kept coming back to me as I watched that movie,' she said. 'What would those women think of the way I use, or don't use, my right to vote? All of us take it for granted now, not just younger women, but those of us who did seek to learn.' The right to vote, she said, had become valuable to her 'all over again.'

HBO released the movie on video and DVD - I wish all history,
social studies and government teachers would include the movie in their curriculum.  It should be shown on daytime TV and at all the professional women's gatherings. I realize this isn't our usual idea of socializing, but we are not voting in the numbers that we should be, and I think a little shock therapy is in order.

It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn't make her crazy.

The doctor admonished the men: 'Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.'

Please, if you are so inclined, pass this on to all the women you know.

We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so
hard for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic, republican or independent party - remember to vote.

History is being made. "

Sorry to post this in News, but there really isn't a category for this to go under.

I am trying to locate a place to buy Cain's Coffee. None of the grocery stores in this area carry it anymore, but it is available where my parents live near Springfield. Does anyone know where it is sold around here? I live south of Belton and work in Olathe, so anyplace in-between is fine.

Thanks.

From FOX NEWS:

LONDON —  A British high school student received credit for writing nothing but a two-word obscenity on an exam paper because the phrase expressed meaning and was spelled correctly.

If, like most Americans, you are struggling with choosing between McCain or Obama, consider the Constitution Party as an alternative. Here is a little of what they stand for.

The Constitution Party

The Democrats and Republicans have squandered the Founders' legacy of liberty and justice under the Constitution. Countless government officials in the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government ignore their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution.

Join the Constitution Party in its work to restore our government to its Constitutional limits and our law to its Biblical foundations

Seven Principles of the Constitution Party are:

1. Life: For all human beings, from conception to natural death;
2. Liberty: Freedom of conscience and actions for the self-governed individual;
3. Family: One husband and one wife with their children as divinely instituted;
4. Property: Each individual's right to own and steward personal property without government burden;
5. Constitution: and Bill of Rights interpreted according to the actual intent of the Founding Fathers;
6. States' Rights: Everything not specifically delegated by the Constitution to the federal government is reserved for the state and local jurisdictions;
7. American Sovereignty: American government committed to the protection of the borders, trade, and common defense of Americans, and not entangled in foreign alliances.

NEW YORK - Oil prices shot up more than $11 to a new record above $139 Friday after Morgan Stanley predicted prices would hit $150 by the Fourth of July. The unprecedented jump is all but certain to drive gas prices well past the $4 mark in the coming weeks.

Do you remember when we were in Kindergarten and first grade and had to take a nap? Do you remember how we hated it, couldn't wait until we were in second grade and didn't have to take naps anymore so we would feel all grown up?

Now, how many grown ups out there wish we had nap time at our jobs? I sure could pile on a few ZZZZZZZ's right now. Maybe if I put a file down on my desk in front of me and pretend I'm looking at it, I can shut my eyes and catch a few.

Enough of this mindless, boring show already! Everytime I turn on the TV, I see a promo for this show. Augh!

I'm also tired of hearing clips of IDOL on KUDL and on the FOX 4 News. I guess I'm lost because I had no idea a TV show was so important and newsworthy.

Is it just me or has TV gotten to be a mindless mess? Maybe I'm just getting old, but I think TV had much better programming when I was a kid.

I heard a song on one of the stations playing Christmas music this morning called "A Soldier Coming Home". It was about a man who had everything he wanted, a nice tree, presents, snow, but all he really wanted for Christmas was "a soldier coming home".

It was fantastic and brought me to tears.

Has anyone else heard this song?

It's almost Christmas and so many service men and women are far away from their homes and families.

To all of our soldiers, both retired and active duty, I want to take this time to say THANK YOU! for your service.

Your service to this country still gives me the right to worship God, celebrate this holiday in my own way and to say, Merry Christams to you all!!
