     Talk about a set up!
Someone plants marijuana and a shotgun in the SUV of a popular high school teacher at Sunny Hills High in Fullerton and then calls police to claim the teacher was selling drugs right before teaching history.  The teacher is arrested...but now..he's cleared of any wrongdoing.
Police quickly discovered it was an elaborate set up.  Unfortunately, investigators didn't find out until after they hauled the teacher out of class, slapped cuffs on him and booked him on drugs and weapon charges.
Now comes the tough part.  This teacher and coach must try to regain his good name and position.  Yet, the horse is already out of the barn.  His mugshot is out there and many folks have already made up their minds.
I would hope all of us in the media who reported the arrest will also report the set up with the same passion and perhaps a little more.
This teacher deserves to move on with his life as quickly as possible as if this horrible tragedy never happened.  Hopefully, students, parents, school officials and society will allow him to do just that.

I totally agree with you, so lets start with you as one of the idiots that called him the 1% that parents have to worry about. You liberal reporters make me sick, the way the media reports their distorted facts leaves no one innocent until proven guilty. Just how much influence do you think you had on the untold number of people who heard about this issue through media outlets like yours whose only interest is to rush the story for the money. Just remember you were one of those that rushed to judgement on the 28th with your blog.

Although teenagers can be knuckleheads half the time, doesn't mean they're wrong most of the time...

it is an awful experience when the govt employees get a scent of excitement. for me the weirdest part of an arrest is walking through the room where all the cops are making phone calls; all the cops look at the arrestee and one gets a sense they are wondering what charges are going to be filed against the handcuffed one. Cops can write all kinds of charges--some felony, some misdemeaner. then one is told the amount of bail, although many spend the night at the police station and see a judge the following day and can be released with no bail. some can spend four or five days in the police jail until they appear before a court. some have a friend come to the police station with cash and go home with a notice to appear in court on a certain day. Then one gets arraigned, and tries to convince the prosecuting team that what they are doing is not fair. f'ing govt employees.

I would suggest that you read my 5/28 blog again. The point of it was the influence teachers have on our kids. We presented the facts of the case as told to us from police to students we interviewed. Despite those facts, students had a tendency to dismiss them, regardless of guilt or innocence. That was the point! It was unfortunate that this teacher was the victim of a set up. As for our coverage, we reported the news of the day, careful, not to convict. When police reported the "set up", we not only reported that, but got in touch with the accused teacher and aired his comments. There was no rush to judgment and I stand by the essence of the 5/28 blog.

This teacher was my son's teacher...they arrested him right before his period!
He is a nice guy and I never thought he did it anyway.

Al,
I did read your 5/28 blog correctly, maybe you should revise it. The way that you wrote your piece groups this teacher among the 1% that parents need to worry about.

I would have given you a grde of D- on this piece in it's current form.

No revision needed. The point of the comment noted at the end of the blog was general, not specific to this particular case. However, we're all free to interpret it as we see fit. By the way...it's g-r-a-d-e.

It's one thing to have a missed stroke of the keyboard, it's another to not accurately and concisely convey the message you are claiming to have put across. A general comment is not good enough when a persons life is going to be affected by how people in general are going to interpret your comment, it must reflect what you actually mean by the comment, not generalization. The teacher is going to have this arrest on his record for life, no matter if he was vindicated, not to mention what is on the Internet when and if his name is ever googled.

If you haven't already, I suggest you check my credentials on my page before you try to correct me again, that was a childish way to let everyone know that my comments bother you.

The OC's my beat for FOX 11 News. But you can catch me covering just about any story, any place, any time. Have news, will travel! I've been doing that here at Fox 11 for 15 years, traveling coast to coast and south of the border. You never know what you might do or where you might end up and your assignment could change from one minute to the next. To me, that's what being a reporter is all about. And it's pretty cool working in an area where I was born and raised. Yep, I'm a native Angeleno and proud of it!! In case you're wondering, Naipo is Hawaiian, the short version of the 21-letter ancestral name, Naipoikamanaihookaahi....
Good luck on the pronunciation.
