Did ya see it?  Up in the sky..it's a bird..it's a plane...it's a guy in a lawn chair?  Yep.. a crazy fellow from Oregon finally made his lawn chair helium balloon flight to Idaho.  What a sight!   A handmade chair with about 160 giant helium filled balloons attached, allowing him to soar across the sky.  It was quite a sight, though it didn't look too safe.  Landing was tricky...he had to pop or shoot out the balloons one at a time. It just goes to show that the spirit of adventure...or foolishness..is alive and well in the U-S-A!

After flipping through the pages of the popular Mexican comic book, however, one word came to mind – racist.

“OK, is it a monkey or a boy? Curiosity. So, I opened the book up,” she said. “This is, you know, rude.

“To me it was an insult. Then I saw the cover of this one and thought, (was it) against (presidential contender Barack) Obama or what?”

Head south of the border though, and you get a different reaction to “Memin Pinguin.” Historically, the character has been hugely popular on newsstands in Mexico and Latin American nations, with sales in the millions.

It was originally published in the 1960s, but has recently been re-issued and available on the shelves in Wal-Marts north of the border.

“They are calling him names. They call him an animal in one section. His mom is spanking his butt and it looks like they are drowning him,” said McGinty, who went so far as to buy a Spanish to English dictionary to better understand what was being said in the serial.

The OC's my beat for FOX 11 News. But you can catch me covering just about any story, any place, any time. Have news, will travel! I've been doing that here at Fox 11 for 15 years, traveling coast to coast and south of the border. You never know what you might do or where you might end up and your assignment could change from one minute to the next. To me, that's what being a reporter is all about. And it's pretty cool working in an area where I was born and raised. Yep, I'm a native Angeleno and proud of it!! In case you're wondering, Naipo is Hawaiian, the short version of the 21-letter ancestral name, Naipoikamanaihookaahi....
Good luck on the pronunciation.
