Imagine..you're a high school honors student who studies all year to pass advanced placement tests for college credit, only to find out the test was disqualified and you have to take it again.  That's the issue facing 375 students at Trabuco Hills High in Mission Viejo.   The reason..ten students reportedly cheated during the exam that wasn't closely watched by administrators.  To boot, they didn't even find out if they passed.  How devastating?  Consider that many of these students are just a couple weeks from entering college.  Yet, here they are, cramming to study..again and praying they pass.  If they don't, no college credit and they'll likely have to take those courses in college AND PAY FOR THEM!  That could run more than $30,000.  To add insult to injury..it was the honest students who apparently ratted out the cheaters and for their honesty..the New Jersey based Educational Testing Service throws out all 690 test scores.  Some students took FIVE AP exams.  The school also shoulders a big part of the blame...failing to implement proper testing procedures that may have lead to the cheating.   What a nightmare! The students and their parents hope a last ditch court battle will result in validating the test scores.  It's a long shot.  In the meantime..it's time to study and pray for a miracle!  What a way to start your college career!

No cheating involved, it is procedure to disqualify ALL the test scores. The reason, there is no way to determine who was exposed to the information that was used to cheat the exam. My question would be this... if honest students are the one's that brought this to light, why did they wait? Why didn't they stop their exam and approach the exam administrator to reveal the cheaters so they could be dealt with immediately?
Unlike the students of Jamie Escalante, whose students did not cheat and were only suspected due to the anomaly of their test scores.
In this case students were found to have cheated the exams, therefore all scores must be dismissed.

i don't see a problem. re-take the test without studying. having taken a test, now the kids know what to expect on it.

Right, however the test won't be the same one. It will not be harder, it will different.

Hey Al , I think that if my high school was caught cheating for the ap exams, I think that those kids who were caught with the same answers should have taken the test again.

Its not fair for all those students to take the test over again. In the fall I'm going to be in honor classes and it would not be good if we take the test and have to retake it .

Al take care and please email or reply to my message

Hope to see you soon in the studios.

If you want to blame someone, blame the administrators of the test. I do this every year, along with state testing. The teachers and facilitators know up front that they will suffer professional penalties for not adhering to the rules. There's no reason for the parents to whine because testing security is a huge issue. In our area, several teens used cell phones to cheat on an AP exam and were EXPELLED. Frankly cheating has become pandemic and it's time that people in all parts of education including students start realizing that this is not creating a true learning environment.

Oh and by the way, I am one of those right wing nuts and the parents who gripe the most about testing protocol are almost always those willing to look the other way when rules are broken. If you want to really do some investigation, look at how few students who make high scores on AP exams get college credit. College count on entry level classes as jobs programs for grad students. I know kids who took multiple tests, scoring fours and fives in things like calculus, physics and chemistry, but only got six hours of Spanish credit. Now THAT is a travesty and makes taking the classes and doing the work needless if you won't get fair credit.I speak as an AP teacher and this is happening across the nation.

The OC's my beat for FOX 11 News. But you can catch me covering just about any story, any place, any time. Have news, will travel! I've been doing that here at Fox 11 for 15 years, traveling coast to coast and south of the border. You never know what you might do or where you might end up and your assignment could change from one minute to the next. To me, that's what being a reporter is all about. And it's pretty cool working in an area where I was born and raised. Yep, I'm a native Angeleno and proud of it!! In case you're wondering, Naipo is Hawaiian, the short version of the 21-letter ancestral name, Naipoikamanaihookaahi....
Good luck on the pronunciation.
