I posted the ad below, because in recent past I have made comments to people who I felt had made some ridiculous assumtions on behalf of our current president as to why fuel prices are so high. My ad below is not the reason either, but it is a part of a long chain as to why the prices are where they are.

I am a business owner and if you put in the media ALL THE TIME that my merchandise prices will be hitting record high. Guess what, I am going to look at that and say, hey I can start raising my prices and make the media look good on their reports. Oh and by the way, because my merchandise has so much media hype and presictions on pricing. I'm taking an extra week in Paris this year. Thanks to all the media hype and prediction crap that has already prepared the public for rising prices. And the fact they can not go with out my merchandise to manage their everyday lives.

My point being to the ad below I have heard the same media hype crap about $4 and 5 dollar a gallon fuel for the past 2 years. THIS YEAR BEING THE FIRST TIME IT HAS ACTUALLY GOT CLOSE. (BUT STILL NOT THERE YET) You keep telling the public that my fuels is going to cost them, these outragious prices. I am not going to disappoint you all and raise my prices to what you expect and buy me another vacation home on some exiotic beach to add to my already collection of 4 in the past 3 years.

(THANKS AMERICA and MEDIA)

What $4 gas would mean to you

Rising pump prices demand sacrifice elsewhere. A survey of new-car shoppers finds 44% eating out less and 40% cutting back on entertainment. Incumbent politicians may also be forsaken.

By U.S. News & World Report

Now that oil prices have crested another heady threshold -- trading above $110 per barrel -- it's time for motorists to start contemplating another once-implausible scenario: pump prices of $4 a gallon.

Just a few years ago, auto-industry futurists thought $3 gas would be a game-changer, unnerving consumers and forcing dramatic changes in their choice of cars and driving behavior. Since then, gas prices have spiked above $3 several times, but they've usually drifted back down. Until now.

Since last summer, gas prices have steadily ticked upward, to about $3.20. And with the spring and summer driving seasons approaching, many analysts think increased demand and other factors could drive pump prices higher still.

"Four-dollar gas is possible, maybe even probable," says Bill Reinert, national manager for advanced technology at Toyota. "We could even see $5 gas."

If gas does hit $4, here's what's likely to happen:

Why are gas prices going up for? Is it because of the oil, if so, why is the oil price going up? Something is not right here.

You are right starfighter in all your questions. One of the things that is probably a contributor, but remember it is my own speculation. Is our population has almost doubles since the mid 80's causing more vehicles to be made and needed on the road for transportation. What few refineries we have in the US is well over 20 years old and built to handle the demands of that era and not this one.
We have not built a refinery in this country in over 20 years and with the few we have, they will never be able to keep up with the demand for gasoline. In that instance you are not going to see and fuel providers start lobbing our government for the right to built more refineries. Reason being then they would be cutting off their own source of profit from such a major profit back to smaller profits.
From a business owners point of view that is not good business. That would be no different then the solar vehicles already able to be produced. Auto makers produce them in mask numbers and the oil tycoons start seeing their profits disappear. They are not about to watch that happen

People for years have been paid millions for their inventions and technology. Just to stop it from being produced. Spend a million today for the patent to this invention and I stand to make 50 million in the next 5 years. As a business person (WHAT WOULD YOU DO?)

Folks, I hate to burst your hate bubble, but the price of gas is going up because the value of the dollar is going down.

Listen to commodity programs or read newspapers. For the first time in history, the American dollar is valued lower than the Swiss Franc.

Because the dollar is devalued (financial markets saw this coming last year), the dollar doesn't buy as much as it did 6 mos. ago.

The reason the dollar is devalued on the global market is because the China and the oil states started buying other currencies on the global market. Since the dollar was less in demand, its value has fallen.

Now, does anyone see a war here that is not being fought with planes and bombs, but economically instead? It has been in the planning for decades.

You are right MissNancy, but that is not the sole reason. You see we get our oil in crude form and then it is refined here

If the value of the dollar is the sole reason for high fuel prices. Then why did they go up last year when the value of the dollar was not an issue ? Why is the value of the dollar not effecting everything ?

Your point about the media is true. They "prime" us to accept the higher prices with their forecasts. There are multiple reasons for the increase in prices. The price of a barrel of oil has been speculated up to $110.00. China and India are buying more oil, OPEC is refusing to increase production. The dollar is down right now. American consumers won't let go of their SUVs or modify their driving habits. Not enough people are switching to alternative fuels like E85 or switching to hybrids. The list goes on and on. We aren't building new refineries. People in this country don't want to use nuclear or coal power and we have allowed environmentalists to put a stranglehold on offshore drilling. Unless we change the way we do business we will continue to be hostages to foreign oil.

Oil is finite and it has to go up as the world economy evolves. Can all 6 billion people drive a car, or an SUV for that matter? Americans think they can. We are on the downward slide as far as proven reserves and economical ways to retrieve crude go. $4 or $5/gal. is fine. It would be in line with Europe and Japan. They also have and use mass transit.

Comparatively speaking, refined petro is cheap.

Americans have been spoiled in too many areas for too long. This is just one of them. Education and the criminal justice system should be up next.

goto my blog on rail transit commuters need relief to go shopping and to work . this would cut gas use and help people keep coin i your pockets to spend thus helping the economy . the fact blue collar workers are getting hard hit in there checks to pay for gas to get to work, stops them from wanting to spend else where. is it shocking that most americans can't buy new hybrids and higher mpg cars when they don't have money left from paying for high priced gas ans gas to heat there home. Then add in prices for food because of this prices on food going up . In this Case craps going uphill and intill it hits the top , the top doesnt care what the bottom lives in and then wait it'll come back down . Keep Classy KC.

Why don't you babies stop whining about gas prices and learn to deal with it? We have it easy on gas prices compared to the rest of the world. The way I see it, if you want to save gas, then ride the metro mass transit or ride a bicycle. If you need a large gas-guzzling vehicle, then my response is "If you can afford a large gas-guzzler, you can afford gas for that gas-guzzler". I have a 17 gallon tank on my car, and I never let it get below 1/4 tank, which means I only need between 9 and 12 gallons to fill the tank up. Even with premium gas close to $3.50/gallon, it still costs less than $50 to fill up the tank. If you choose not to ride mass transit and save money, then stop whining you cannot afford gas, because we cannot help you.
