'Brain Freeze' Blamed In Car Crash
Drivers Says Cold Drink Caused Pain In Head
POSTED: 3:58 pm CDT June 11, 2008
UPDATED: 4:00 pm CDT June 11, 2008
SALINA, Kan. -- Salina police say a 66-year-old man whose car crashed into a house blames "brain freeze" from a cold drink for the mishap.
Robert Schulz told police that the sudden, sharp pain in his head while driving Tuesday afternoon was followed by a "chest freeze." Schulz said he had just purchased the flavored, frozen drink from a Sonic restaurant and was drinking it while driving at 3:45 p.m.
But he was hit by the painful sensation that often comes after a big swallow of cold liquid. Schulz said his car then went out of control, left the street and slammed into the front steps of a house.
An ambulance took Schulz to Salina Regional Health Center, where he was treated and released.

Did anybody else go out this week and get the new 3 Doors Down CD? I've been playing it all week! I love it. My least favorite song is the very first one, but it is still a good song. I just had to play it more than the others before it "grew" on me.

I know I'm dreaming, but wouldn't it be nice for the pro sports teams would step up and say "Education Comes First" so when you ready to graduate, let us know and you will be welcome on our team! So many times I'm saddened by the news of athletes being tempted by pro teams and the promise of big money while they are still in school. Many athletes choose the money over their education. I wish pro teams would offer jobs only upon graduation, and show the students that education really SHOULD come first?

Boy, am I ticked. My sis got me a $50 gift card to Perfume Pizazz. I never get out to shop, especially around Oak Park Mall anymore since dad has come to live with us. Today, I took the boys to the mall to get a badly needed pair of shoes, and I remembered to bring my gift card. Imagine my surprise when I go to Perfume Pizazz only to find them out of business. Wouldn't it have been nice if they told my sister in December that they were going to be closing and I should use the gift card quickly or stop selling gift cards? But noooooooooooooooooo!!! She doesn't have much money anyway, and she gave me more than normal because I've helped her out this past year with dad and his medical problems. I guess I'll just stick it in my drawer and let it be an expensive lesson. I don't even want to tell her what happened, she'll feel bad and probably feel like she needs to get me something else... I just WANT MY PERFUME!!!

WOW - We went to see Alan Parsons Project at Ameristar last night. It was a HIGH ENERGY show! I first listened to their 8 track of I Robot in November, 1977 on my first date with my husband and had been hooked since. Bought many albums, cassettes, CDs of theirs since then. They sounded absolutely fantastic. I saw them sometime in 1994 or 1995 when they played at Memorial Hall and the band Kansas opened for them (I've seen Kansas in concert about 15-16 times). It was a great show last night and hope I would get to see them one more time.

The Phelps klan is going to picket the funeral of Marine Lance Cpl. Maria F. Lauterbach tomorrow in Ohio. She is the Marine that was pregnant and brutally murdered by the child's father and he is on the run.
This is ridiculous that they would picket her funeral! Not surprising, but ridiculous. I wish this was the straw that broke the camel's back and someone would do something to stop them permanently from ever picketing again or even WALKING or breathing again. Guido, where ARE you when I need you!

I don't know anybody involved in the following story, but I get a weird feeling about it. If I were shot and ran away, I wouldn't go to simply hide in a parking lot and then return back to the car injured to drive myself to the hospital. I would have run into the store, looked for help and have them call 911 if I did not have a cell phone. Does anybody else think something just doesn't add up, like maybe a deal gone wrong? Please give me your thoughts.
Man Shot Numerous Times Outside McDonald's

The family of a man shot in the face after leaving McDonald's on 75th Street near I-35 said he'll never be the same.
Overland Park police said the victim stopped at the McDonald's to use the bathroom around 7:20 Monday night. But before he could get back inside his car, police said someone shot him.
"It can happen to anybody, any time, any where," the victim's step-father Chris Campbell said.
Overland Park police said the victim, headed to his car, was approached by a man asking for money and then a ride.
"At that point the victim sees the man is holding a gun, he takes off running," Jim Weaver with Overland Park Police said. "As he's running away he hears a popping noise and he can't hear out of one ear. He continues to run, he realized he's been hit a again."
Police said the victim ran down a driveway towards the JcPenney parking lot to get away, but the shooter kept firing. Police said the victim was shot in his chin, cheek, arm and leg but was able to run back to his car and drive across the street to Shawnee Mission Medical Center. He's since been moved.
"There is one bullet wound to his head which kind of took out his lower jaw which will require surgery," Campbell said.
"It's a pretty dangerous person," Weaver said. "Usually if the person runs away from you and you don't have any more to gain you didn't get the car, you didn't get the money, but this guy stood there and shot at this guy multiple times."
Police said the 33-year-old victim is expected to survive. Police hope the restaurant's surveillance video will lead them to the shooter. If you have information about this case call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Do you believe this stupid, idiotic, selfish mom? She needs to go away and get treatment for a VERY long time.
Lenexa Mom In Court For Fourth DUI Charge

Natasha Rivera

A Johnson County woman in jail suspected of driving drunk with her child in the car was in court on Wednesday. Prosecutors said the woman, 25-year-old Natasha Rivera, is a repeat DUI offender.
According to court documents, this is the fourth time the Lenexa mom was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The prosecutor's office said this is the second time she's had a child in the car while suspected of DUI.
According to the prosecutor's office, someone spotted Rivera on New Year's Eve driving improperly and called police. Court documents show Rivera was over the blood alcohol limit when she was arrested in Olathe. Court documents also show Rivera had a child in the vehicle at the time of her arrest.
Rivera's husband was in court, but declined to discuss her case.
Rivera was also arrested on October 14 for DUI and on December 19, she entered a plea agreement for her third DUI offense and was given probation.
Dr. John Schmitz, a psychiatrist at Two Rivers Hospital, said as the numbers of DUI offenses go up, the success in treatment goes down.
"In the case of the repeat offender stringent laws are the only thing that works," Dr. Schmitz said. "We've heard of the concept of tough love and the same concept applies in the treatment of people with chemical dependancies."
Rivera is being held on a $10,000 bond. In court, she asked to have her bond reduced. If Rivera is able to post bond, she's ordered to house arrest and not allowed to drive, be around firearms, drink alcohol or take drugs. She's expected back in court on January 10.

I saw on the news tonight that Dan Fogelberg died today of prostate cancer at the age of 56. Much too young. He made wonderful music that will always remind me of my days in high school in the 70's. The kind of songs that take you back immediately upon hearing a few notes. I just heard a song of his on the radio a couple of days ago and thought about what great songs he wrote and sang. Rest in peace Dan, you will be missed.
