I know I'm dreaming, but wouldn't it be nice for the pro sports teams would step up and say "Education Comes First" so when you ready to graduate, let us know and you will be welcome on our team!  So many times I'm saddened by the news of athletes being tempted by pro teams and the promise of big money while they are still in school.  Many athletes choose the money over their education.  I wish pro teams would offer jobs only upon graduation, and show the students that education really SHOULD come first?

Michael Beasley, last year at this time just finished high school ball. This year, looking at $100million/year after 1 year of K-State ball where he MADE millions for the school and got.....uh.....IDK.

How much math education would you need to make the choice? 19-20 years old $100/yr for maybe 10-14 years. Family taken care of. Injury possibilities while making unreimbursed money for K-State.

Not even close.

Just the fact that sports teams offer those salaries to kids should be wrong. I think pro sports teams should wait until the second half of the senior year of college, and only after they have completed graduation. They would still get the money, but they would be required to finish their education.

Check the graduation rates of seniors who are atheletes. Even at Duke, its low. The KCSTAR did a story regarding just that a while back.

The college coaches, whose career can depend on W-L, are also short changed by freshman headed towards pro ball. But, they(K-State coach) support their atheletes to do so.

Look at what Lenny Dykstra did in finance after his playing career. A lot depends how motivated you are, not your education level.

Maybe kids would be more motivated if they thought something was in it for them, like a nice salary AFTER graduation!!! You shouldn't give them the steak before they graduate, but swing it in front of them until they graduate!
