KEY DEMS SEND WORD TO HILLARY:  “IT’S OVER!”

I predicted two months ago that North Carolina would seal the fate of one of the remaining Democrats seeking the White House.  I believe that happened this past Tuesday… with an impressive double digit victory for Barack Obama.  Plus, of course, we had that squeaker in Indiana… a 20-thousand vote Clinton win, out of about a million votes cast.  She had to do better this week, a lot better.

His 240,000-vote victory in North Carolina, coupled with her narrow, 18,000-vote triumph in Indiana, all but assured Obama will finish the primary season with a lead in the cumulative popular vote.

But Hillary Clinton is the ultimate fighter.  She is all about tenacity with a capital T and apart from George McGovern, a plainspoken man who knows something about losing elections, not a single Democrat of national stature publicly urged Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday to end her campaign for the White House.

They didn't have to.  There’s no shortage of other ways to signal, suggest, insinuate or instigate the same thing.  Besides it would be unseemly to publicly pressure a historic political figure, a woman who has run a grueling race, won millions of votes and drawn uncounted numbers of new Democratic voters to the polls.

Instead, many Democrats preferred to say softly what the party's 1972 presidential nominee said for all to hear. Barack Obama has won the nomination "by any practical test," McGovern said.    He was an early Clinton backer but has now switched his allegiance to Obama.

The bottom line is that barring a sudden huge negative revelation or an act of God, the Illinois senator is on track to become the first black presidential nominee of a major party.   The latest Time magazine cover really says it all… sporting a picture of Obama with a million-watt smile… the headline says:   “And the winner is….”

Yet Obama and his key spokespeople are giving Clinton some breathing room.   "I think that it would be inappropriate and awkward and wrong for any of us to tell Senator Clinton when it is time for the race to be over," said Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, speaking on a campaign-sponsored conference call with reporters.   "This is her decision and it is only her decision.”  Sen. Chuck Schumer, a staunch supporter of his fellow New Yorker, said, "It's her decision to make and I'll accept what decision she makes." Asked about her chances of still capturing the Democratic nomination, the normally loquacious Schumer fell silent.

Other Democrats preferred to speak more freely, but only on condition of anonymity. They, too, said that Tuesday's primaries in North Carolina and Indiana had effectively sealed the outcome.

SHIFTING SUPERDELEGATES

The only yardstick by which Obama still trails Clinton: the 796 party insiders and elected officials, known as superdelegates, who are free to back either candidate.   And if the trend of the past few days continues, Obama will soon overtake Senator Clinton on this final frontier.   That will be a tipping point that’s likely to encourage a cascade of endorsements from holdouts and seal the nomination for the Illinois senator.

THE CASH GAP

There’s also the money matter.  With six primaries to go, Obama is flush with cash.   Clinton’s campaign concedes she’s out of dough… and on Wednesday we heard she had pumped another $6.4 of her own money into her campaign.   So Bill and Hillary Clinton have poured $11 from their own nest egg into her increasingly bleak prospects of securing the nomination.

Obama has led the money race throughout the primary season and he already has more offices in the upcoming primary states.   He is advertising in several of them, including Oregon and Kentucky.   And – as Politico.com noted this week -- the extreme financial imbalance between the two candidates at this phase underscores the strategic advantage Obama gained by forcing Clinton to spend all her money to capture Pennsylvania and stay in the race.

Clinton's dire financial condition was evident Tuesday night when she opened her Indiana victory speech with an appeal for donations to her web site.   That request was followed up with a late night e-mail blast to supporters celebrating the win and soliciting money.   In that message:  "Tonight's victory in Indiana was close, and a margin that narrow means just one thing: every single thing you did to help us win in Indiana helped make the difference."

The question is:  How many will need that call for help… with the likelihood their cash will wind up going down the drain?

Now… your turn.

I’ll be back with another THIS POLITICAL WEEK on Fri May 16.

Cheers, Bob

Well... it's sad to see but I think it's not over. Hillary was supposed to win not just the nomination but the election itself. According to conspiracy theorist she's been to those meetings with that group uhhh what's the name of that group oh who cares...

But anywhoo... she's was the think tanks heir to power in this country and no one saw the mutant mulatto coming on so quickly. So there may be another group we not be knowin bout.

Yeah... started by Fredrick Douglas back in the day this unknown lite black group has a prophecy of an african/anglo child that will come and lead the former slaves to the promised land. Now they're not sure if Obama is it but they aint takin' no chances.

Ooops... I wasn't supposed to tell you guys that.

(OFF TOPIC...

Navy Way was cool, good job to all of you!... I've had the pleasure of hosting special forces units in the Army and I'm a bit of a nut so some of them thought I was part of the 'very' special forces. Anywho... one thing about those guys. I remember feeling totally suprised at their complete lack of machismo or sarcasm or bossiness or any overt expression of how tough these men actually were. As a unit clerk I never felt like much of a soldier but those soldiers did not contribute to that feeling like other combat types would.

So... gonna do the Army next?)

If you think that was great, just wait till we get John "Borders" McCain and the Marxist Obama. NO THANKS my money goes to the real conservative in another party. Here is what I see happening. McCain is acting so weird and bad now that honestly, many Republicans will sit it out, at least those who are Conservatives or even middle of the road. They will live with 4 years of Marxism from that Obama guy who is getting so much money, I wonder if anyone knows from where. Hey Bob, maybe you can do some good old fashioned journalism and find out the big money people other then Oprah! How about it BOB? (I don't think he will folks)!!!

What ae you talking about? Have you people completely lost your minds? This race aint over and Hillary would be nuts to get out.

1.Obama dint win Indiana, michigan, florida, Pennsylvania ,texas, newyork and california. It' will be a HUGE problem in november! If he can't win in these states ,it's a pipe dream to think it will be diffrent in november.

2. If the DNC is foolish enough to leave out voters in michigan and florida ,because of idoit type rules created by party boss leaders ,they can kiss the election good bye. If you dont think those voters are signifucant now, then they will make sure you pay for it in november.

3.Hillary is still wining. What's with this rabbit cry of wanting her to quit? The more she wins , more delegates flee to obama. Something is wrong here.Sounds like loony fascism.

4. Mathematically , with the help of Puerto Rico ,wins in Kentucky ,west Virginia and Oregon ,it is still possible Hillary can still take the nomination. This has the possiblities of stuning the world and the loony left. Oh The horror people!

5. The people who are voitng for Obama are the same people who are loking for someone to give them something for free. What ever happen to "ask not what your country can do for you ,but what you can do for your country?". Oh wait , this new democratic party that supports obama is really a soicalist party in disguise.

6. Mcain will beat Obama on the issues. You can count on it, because promises and reality are two diffrent things in government. It is what it is!

Crafty is right, the mexicans won't vote for Obama, simply because he IS black. Part of the culture ya know. Mexican culture is racist against blacks...always has been. And one more thing, we also know how Anti-Jewish you Communist "CHE" lovers are. You were very happy about 9-11 huh? I saw one of your cohorts cackling about how those planes crashed into those towers in that Jewish shitho** called............Manhattan. Obama adviser who met with Hamas resigns

May 11, 2008 Recommend (5) LYNN SWEET blogs.suntimes.com/sweet
Rob Malley, a Middle East policy adviser to likely Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama, resigned after news surfaced that he had been meeting with Hamas -- something Obama pledged he himself would never do.

Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said Saturday Malley called the Obama campaign on Friday to sever ties with the candidate after learning the Times of London was publishing a story about his contacts with the terrorist group.

RELATED STORIES Obama captures lead among Dem superdelegates
Malley is an analyst at the Washington, D.C.-based International Crisis Group, specializing in the Israeli-Arab conflict. He told NBC News that his job "is to meet with all sorts of savory and unsavory people and report on what they say. I've never denied whom I meet with; that's what I do."

LaBolt said, "Sen. Obama strongly opposes talking to Hamas, a terrorist group committed to Israel's destruction. As president, he will work to isolate Hamas and target its resources, and rejects any dialogue until Hamas recognizes Israel, renounces terrorism, and abides by previous agreements."

Way to go Barry!!!!! It takes a terrorist to negotiate with terrorists! Next time send over Bill Ayers- Ambassador to Terrorism!

Villaraigosa’s Spending Is Up 32%
By Walter Moore, Candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles, WalterMooreForMayor.com

Please burn this number into your memory: 32%.

The next time you hear someone claim Villaraigosa is “cutting spending” because of a “budget crisis,” I want you to blurt out that number: 32%.

That number is how much more of your money Villaraigosa is spending now than when he first took office: 32%.

Villaraigosa’s proposed budget calls for spending $7 billion this year.

The spending budget when he took office was “just” $5.3 billion per year.

That’s an increase of $1.7 billion per year, which amounts to 32%.

And what do we have to show for it? The quality of life in our city has continued to plummet, while the Mayor acts as though his job is to pose for photo-ops.

Do you make 32% more money than you did when Villaraigosa took office? No? Then why should he raise your DWP bill, your trash fees, your parking meter rates, your library privileges, your right to drive on streets for which your tax dollars paid, and your phone bill even higher than he has already?

You need a Mayor who won’t squander your money. I’m your man. I’m 100% your candidate for Mayor.

New mayor says top priority is ridding Carrollton of illegal immigrants
Look for the fight against illegal immigration to intensify in Dallas' northwest suburbs.
Carrollton's next mayor, Ron Branson, said Sunday that he'll begin working immediately to rid the city of illegal immigrants.
His come-from-behind election victory Saturday night coincided with the expected mayoral win in neighboring Farmers Branch by a better-known activist on the same issue: Tim O'Hare.
"Illegal immigration has got to be at the top," Mr. Branson said. "Every place I went, people wanted to talk about that."
He said he will create a citizens committee to come up with ideas for driving out illegal immigrants.
And he plans to meet regularly with Mr. O'Hare, who has led Farmers Branch's efforts to ban property rentals to illegal immigrants.

Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN

Are we "SLOW LEARNERS" or what?

Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907
