Kiss my assets!

This is a long process for me, I like to take my time and look and find exactly what it is that I want...

I was addicted to the Mustang until I rented one back in November, not a bad ride for the short term, but try taking one for a long trip! And not to mention the little 6 cylinder I rented was a gas hog too!

I also rented a Sebring convertible, I loved the convertible part, and the gas mileage wasn't too bad, but in my opinion it was a rather cheaply built car and the little four banger under the hood didn't impress me either, it always sounded like the motor was getting ready to blow, because the RPM's were running high anytime the speedometer went over 45! And yes it was in overdrive.

Now I am looking at Pontiac Solstice. I need to find a place that rents them, so I can drive one.  I do a lot of miles when doing photo shoots so being comfortable is important to me. I like something with a little get up and go, so I am thinking turbo LOL! Any of you all own one? Care to tell me what you think about them?

I am also looking at the Saturn Skye, I would love to find a place that rents them so I can take one on a road trip! Again I would like to hear from someone that owns one.

I also like the looks of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, I test drove one but again I want it for a few days to get a real feel for it. Again anyone that owns one tell me what you think of it.

Hubby nixed the idea of a Miata, he says they are cheaply built and he doesn't want me driving one. I personally love two seater convertible cars.

What about the Honda S2000?  Anyone here own one?

If you own any of the above vehicles or know of one that you think I may like, please feel free to give me your input here. I am not sure that I will purchase one of these brand new, I have this really bad habit of letting the first owner pay the depreciation. *wink*

As always, thanks for the blog.

All the cars you mention look like death traps excluding the mustangs.. The Solice looks really cool though, are you going to be hauling stuff with you?

Points people dont think about:

space for carrying items.
leg & comfort (long trips).
Fuel effiecency (gas isn't getting cheaper)
Safety crash ratings (try Edmunds.com for reveiws/ research)
Lastly, Research, research, research.... :o)

The BMW is appealing but what isn't appealing is my mechanic not being able to work on it. I also like the Porsche boxter and the Audii, but again these are cars that my mechanic can not work on. BMW, Mercedes and most other foriegn cars are very expensive to do little things to like brake jobs and such so they are out.

To answer your question, I carry two camera bags with me and if I am going far enough an overnight bag and maybe a tripod. Not a lot to be honest. Hubby works in the car industry, he writes estimates for insurance companies and he sees how well they hold up or should I say don't hold up. He is the one that pointed me toward the Saturn Skye and the Pontiac Solstice.

For some reason hubby doesn't like the Mini Cooper, the Miata or the VW.

Maybe I should run the Honda S2000 by him? I like the looks of it too!

The G6 replaced the Grand Am, never liked them. The Grand Prix was kind of nice but I don't know if it comes in a rag top or not.

The Mustang I rented was the most uncomfortable vehicle I think I have ever ridden in, we went 8 hours one way to Pensacola in it, and more then eight hours coming back, because we took the scenic route (98). Every few hours I needed to get out and stretch my legs, as the seat was cutting off my circulation. The older Mustangs were roomier inside, as I had traveled over 1,000 miles in one day, stopping only to fuel. The Sebring was a comfortable ride, but that engine was over worked I think...

I test drove both the Skye and the Solstice. I 100% LOVE the way they look, but that's were it ended. The tops are horrible to put up and take down. Talk about cheap. The only thing worse is the interior. Why build such a beautiful car only to put an interior in that has all the excitement of a cardboard box?

I can't say I was impressed at all with the speed or handleing. Turns out the ONLY thing I liked was the body style from the outside. That's it.

Now... if you want a car you will fall in love with thanks to incredible handling, sweet lines, amazing power, serious comfort, super nice interior, and the latest in gadgets... Check out the Nissan 350Z. One test drive and I was in love. Wow talk about serious power! And putting the top up & down was so easy. Gotta love a power roof.

I'm partial to Toyota. I've had many cars and truck from G.M., Ford, and I'll admit a few Chrysler products but none of them come close to the Toyotas.

..The Pontiac solstice , what this car reminds me most of is the il fated Fiero (also by Pontiac) few people ever knew that the Fiero (like the solstice) had a number of different models . The bone heads at Pontiac decided to base an econo-box on the Fiero frame as well as a nicely appointed sports car , the LE Fiero had a cheap interior lame stereo and no power but in sharp contrast the GT had beautiful leather interior delco/boss stereo a peppy V6 and a 5 speed (it also had a different steering and suspension) other than the name the cars had nothing in common....same goes for the current Solstice you can get one that gets great MPG for under 16,000 out the door but if you look at the ones starting at 22,500 you will find it is a totally different car ! But signal is right about the GTO /G6 being possibly the best price/point sports car on the market today...to bad there is no GTO for “08” :(

But you know what GM really really needs to build ....a convertible Cobalt ! Have you driven this thing Signal ? I love driving this cheap car in every way ..its as much fun (for the price) as sex was in the 70's (before they ruined it)

We have a Mustang GT which is a gas hog but awesome car. My car is a Grand Prix GXP and I could talk about it all day long. The best car I've ever had!!! V8 and i get up to 34 mpg on the highway. 4 of the 8 cylinders shut down to save gas. No rag top. That would only ruin the look. Check it out....I've had 3 Grand Am's and once they came out with the ugly G6, G5, and whatever other G they may come out with are just a big MISTAKE! Stay with GM and get one that has Onstar. It's AWESOME to know you have the protection. Plus, I have a phone in my car too which is cool. All I need to do is press the button and say who/phone number I want to call.

Don't throw stones at the G6 /G5 line up until you have driven them ! The G6 will dust your grand am (not going to say anything bad about the GA I love them ) and the G5 is in a whole different category...if you can find me a $12,000 car that gets better mileage and drives half as well I will eat my hat (the black one) . As far as rag tops its a “thing” you ether love em or hate em , there are trade offs with a RT the handling is not as stiff so performance goes down a bit but nothing beats driving along the beach at night in the summer with the top down....

Ahh the fiero, did you know the gas tank on some was located under the arm rest?

The Fiero I was under the impression, was a prototype Corvette type car by Pontiac? I still see a few of them around town here.

I still like the S2000 by Honda, and of course before the S2000 I thought the Del Sol was the sheite! LOL!

G6=Grand AM RNC, I am sorry but I am not interested in one. You are talking to a Ford gal here who is disappointed in what Ford has to offer me. I didn't like the look of the G6 and thought they were rather small for a passenger car. I do like the look of the Grand Prix, but to be honest I want a two seater sports jobbie! I think I will have a peek at the 350z, thanks for the tip CJ!

I have already eliminated the BMW, The Audi and the Boxter, because I want something my mechanic can work on, so this has to be something American made. I am also looking to get something that gets good mileage.

I have often thought of picking up an old MG! I have always thought they were the bomb, but I want something I can drive all over the state.

No it was the G6 rag top I was thinking of for you and Truthguys...if you have only seen pic's you have got to see one this is car that looks and drives in a league with top of the line Italian cars. Also you owe it to yourself to go and see the Saturn Sky the G6 will run about $22K /the Sky has the same basic performance (same basic wheelbase /motor /transmission etc DU!) but will run you $26K...
As far as the MG ...ever work on a side draft carburetor ? Are you familiar with the “British way of doing things” ...I owned both the B model and a midget , lot of fun but not a great driving car and be ready to spend most weekends working on it !
