Hello all!

It is that time of year again when I have to decide what to enter into the Indian River Lagoon Calendar Contest. Here are my picks for this year, I need three entries, so please give your three choices! You all did so well last year, so I am asking again this year for the 2009 calendar. The entry deadline is July 30th. I haven't had time to do much shooting this year, so these entries are from my archives.

As you may or may not know, one of my images "Postcard From Sebastian" was selected for the month of December 2008 in the 2008 Calendar. If you missed the calendar you can download it here: http://www.sjrwmd.com/indianriverlagoon ... 8-5x11.pdf

Ok here are my choices, now please tell me yours!

Even if you aren't a skier, you'll be able to appreciate the humor
of the slopes as written by a New Orleans paper:

A friend just got back from a holiday skiing trip to Utah with the
kind of story that warms the cockles of anybody's heart.

Conditions were perfect...12 below, no feeling in the toes, basic
numbness all over...the "Tell me when we're having fun" kind of day.

One of the women in the group complained to her husband that she was in dire need of a rest room. He told her not to worry, that he was sure there was relief waiting at the top of the lift in the form of a powder room for female skiers in distress. He was wrong, of course, and the pain did not go away. If you've ever had nature hit its panic button in you, then you know that a temperature of 12 below doesn't help matters. With time running out, the woman weighed her options. Her husband, picking up on the intensity of the pain, suggested that since she was wearing an all-white ski outfit, she should go off in the woods and no one would even notice. He assured her, "The white will provide more than adequate camouflage."

So she headed for the tree line, began lowering her ski pants and proceeded to do her thing. If you've ever parked on the side of a slope, then you know there is a right way and wrong way to set your skis so you don't move.
Yup, you got it!!! She had them positioned the wrong way. Steep slopes are not forgiving...even during the most embarrassing moments. Without warning, the woman found herself skiing backward, out-of-control, racing through the trees...somehow missing all of them and onto another slope. Her derriere and the reverse side were still bare, her pants down around her knees, and she was picking up speed all the while. She continued backwards, totally out-of-control, creating an unusual vista for the other skiers. The woman skied back under the lift and finally collided violently with a pylon.

The bad news was that she broke her arm and was unable to
pull up her ski pants. At long last her husband arrived, putting an end to her nudie show, then summoned the ski patrol. They transported her to a hospital.

While in the emergency room, a man with an obviously broken leg was put in the bed next to hers. "So, how'd you break your leg?" she asked, making small talk. "It was the stupidest thing you ever saw," he said. "I was riding up this ski lift and suddenly, I couldn't believe my eyes! There was this crazy woman skiing backward, out-of-control, down the mountain, with her bare bottom hanging out of her pants. I leaned over to get a better look and fell out of the lift." ... "So, how'd you break your arm?

Someday when my children are old enough to
understand the logic that motivates a parent,
I will tell them, as my Mean Mom told me:
I loved you enough to ask where you were going,
with whom, and what time you would be home.

I loved you enough to be silent and let you
discover that your new best friend was a creep.

I loved you enough to stand over you for
two hours while you cleaned your room,
a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger,
disappointment, and tears in my eyes.
Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect..

I loved you enough to let you assume the
responsibility for your actions even when the
penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart.

But most of all, I loved you enough to say
NO when I knew you would hate me for it.

Those were the most difficult battles of all.
I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too.
And someday when your children are old enough to
understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them.

Was your Mom mean?

I know mine was.
We had the meanest mother in the whole world!
While other kids ate candy for breakfast,
we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast.

When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch,
we had to eat sandwiches.

And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was
different from what other kids had, too.

Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times.
You'd think we were convicts in a prison.

She had to know who our friends were
and what we were doing with them.
She insisted that if we said we
would be gone for an hour, we would be gone
for an hour or less.

We were ashamed to admit it,
but she had the nerve to break
the Child Labor Laws by making us work.

We had to wash the dishes, make the beds,
learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry,
empty the trash and all sorts of cruel jobs.
I think she would lie awake at night
thinking of more things for us to do.

She always insisted on us telling the truth,
the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
By the time we were teenagers,
she could read our minds
and had eyes in the back of her head.
Then, life was really tough!

Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk
the horn when they drove up
They had to come up to the door
so she could meet them.

While everyone else could date
when they were 12 or 13,
we had to wait until we were 16.

Because of our mother we missed out
on lots of things other kids experienced.

None of us have ever
been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's
property or ever arrested for any crime.
It was all her fault.

Now that we have left home, we are all educated,
honest adults. We are doing our best to be mean parents
 just like Mom was.

I think that is what's wrong with the world today.
It just doesn't have enough mean moms!

Happy Mother's Day to all of you mean moms!

Hello Orlando!

I have traveled this beautiful State of ours and have visited many Florida State parks, I am wondering, do you have a favorite Florida State park?

My favorite is Bahia Honda, located just south of Marathon in The Florida Keys!  I love the pristine blue water down there and the pristine beaches, along with a touch of history from The Flagler Railroad Bridge that resides in the park.

So which State Park is your favorite?

And why is it your favorite?

As always, thanks for the blog!

As promised here are the results! If you missed the questions, you can find them by clicking here! It isn't too late to take it!

OVER 60 POINTS: Others see you as someone they should 'handle with care.' You're seen as vain, self-centered, and who is extremely dominant.
Others may admire you, wishing they could be more like you, but don't
always trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved with you.

51 TO 60 POINTS : Others see you as an exciting, highly volatile, rather impulsive personality; a natural leader, who's quick to
make decisions, though not always the right ones. They see you as bold and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once; someone who takes chances and enjoys an adventure. They enjoy being in your company because of the excitement you radiate.

41 TO 50 POINTS:
Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.

31 TO 40 POINTS : Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over if that trust is ever broken.

21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy. They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and
steady plodder. It would really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment, expecting you to
examine everything carefully from every angle and then, usually decide against it. They think this reaction is caused partly by your careful
nature.

UNDER 21 POINTS: People think you are shy, nervous, and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who always wants someone
else to make the decisions & who doesn't want to get involved with anyone or anything! They see you as a worrier who always sees problems that don't exist. Some people think you' re boring.
Only those who know you well know that you aren't.

Thoughtfulness for others, generosity, modesty and self-respect are the qualities which make a real gentleman or lady. - Thomas H. Huxley

...Texas Style!

Texas is planning "Survivor, Texas Style." The contestants will start in Dallas, travel through Waco, Austin, San Antonio, over to Houston, and down to Brownsville. They will proceed up to Del Rio, on to El Paso, then to Midland/Odessa, Lubbock, and Amarillo. From there, they proceed to Abilene, and on to Ft. Worth and back to Dallas.

Each will be driving a pink Volvo with a bumper sticker that reads, "I'm gay, I voted for Al Gore, and I'm here to confiscate your guns."

The first one to make it back to Dallas wins.

LOL! Just thought you all might appreciate this one!

This "Alien" loves to eat M&M's!  I don't eat Reese's Pieces like E.T. did!  I especially like the orange and green M&M's!  The red M&M's are the only ones I won't eat because I hear they may have caused cancer in laboratory rats!

What about the rest of you all?  Do you like M&M's?  Do you think our beloved Northton is at risk?

Blog it here!

As always thanks for the blog!

I have used all versions of Microslut's Windoze in the past decade...3.1, 95, 98, 98se, ME and XP. (I have not tried Vista because I heard it was an abortion of a program!) I am now looking to make two big changes because I am tired of Microslut...

First I am looking to wipe my current hard drive and install Linux as the operating system.

Second in about three or four months I will have my MAC!

Are there any computer geeks out there? What do you know about programs that are compatible with Linux? I use Potato Shop and Paint Shop Pro for image editing now, are these programs compatible with Linux or will I have to learn and buy another program? Once I buy my Mac (depending if I get the lappy or the all in one) I am considering giving this machine to my son. He wants to install CAD on whatever machine I give him, will he have to use Windoze for CAD? Or can I turn him on to Linux?

When it comes to the Mac and the OS operating system, I understand that I will have to purchase new programs and learn them, this I am willing to do for a Mac. But has anyone out there actually used a Mac? What are the pros and cons you have found if any?

Thanks for your input and thanks for the blog!

Personally I resolve to start eating healthier and take off a few pounds!  I also resolve to get out and take more images and include my husband in my photographic travels!

Ok, ok so the last one I have already been working.  Hubby seems to enjoy these impromptu travels of mine, and I have been including him as of late. (this is something new and different for him because I have always done my own thing spur of the moment, and he likes to plan, plan, plan! LOL!)  I also lost about ten pounds before the holidays set in, but I need to get back on track with that one.

So tell me... How many of you will make a New Year resolution this year?  What will your resolution be?  What will you do?  Blog it here!

As always, thanks for the blog!

I am already looking forward to vacation.  This is the time of year I book mine, normally for March (Spring Break).  This year it is going to be more like June because hubby started his new job after Spring Break last year.

My options and reasonings are as follows...

St. Pete Beach -  Beautiful scenic land and beachscapes, lighthouse at Ft. Desoto I need to do, and lighthouse on Anclote Key I need to do.  We will be bringing the boat, so getting to the lights isn't an issue.  Oh yeah and fishing for the guys!  Not sure about where the boat would stay, or where the public boat launches are either, but I will look for condos with dockage!

Ft. Myres/Sanibel/Naples - Love the west coast, love Sanibel island too!  The sunsets on the west coast are just divine and are a major draw for me.  The guys get to fish Boca Grande area maybe?  Not sure where the boat would stay, but of course I will look for amenities with dockage.

Panama City/Mexico Beach/Navarre Beach - I was just up there completing my Florida Lighthouse tour.  A slice of heaven up there with beautiful beachscapes and landscapes and reasonably priced too!  Can't forget about the guys and fishing either.  Not sure where we will keep the boat if we go here, but I am sure there have to be boat launches or rentals with dockage.

Florida Keys - This is our normal spring break destination!  LOL! If we do this trip, I am looking to stay a little south maybe.  Instead of Marathon maybe the "Saddle Bunch" or "Big Pine" area.  I don't spend much time in Key West except maybe for sunset and a little "Kino" sandal shopping.  The boat will stay at a dock because I will not rent a condo or house without one.  The Dry Tortugas would be the big photo draw, along with the local beaches there.  And of course the fishing should be phenomenal for the guys!

So there ya have it!  Florida vacations are the best even after living here for the last 25 years!

What would your Florida vacation destination be and why?

Blog it here!

As always, thanks for the blog!

Brenda  =)

P.S. United States east coast Lighthouses will be another photo road trip for me some time in late 2007 or maybe spring break 2008?  Not sure on this one yet.
