Legislators were back at work this Wednesday, holding more hearings on oil and gas prices. They brought back the fat cats (aka the top executives) from U.S.-based oil companies.

We heard tough questioning. We got pretty much the same answers from the oil companies: it's the market.

Aren't these hearings just a waste of time? Can anything be learned from these events? Maybe you think they're just another dog and pony show.

The hearings are designed to impart the impression that your representatives are actually doing something. If they siad we are going to build a couple of new refineries, drill off the Florida coast, begin permitting for new nuclear reactors, instead of threaten the industry with more shake-downs and unwarranted taxes I might actually believe that they are actively involved in solutions. Right now they, by their own actions, have proven to be one of the largest problems, kind of pests so to speak. A good exterminator might possibly clear up some issues with this crowd !

I ACTUALLY heard one of them say the EXACT same things that YOU said Meb..Uhh well..Maybe NOT the EXACT same things but CLOSE....LMAO..

DAMN good thing I wasn't one of those executives..

"How much of your Profits have YOU invested in Alternative Energy, Mr. Oil Man???"

"I don't know Senator,,How Much Money did YOU contribute to your opponent's Campaign the last time you ran for re-election??"

Yeah Hawkeye, I'd have loved to been one of those executives. Once I'd figuratively speaking clubbed them to death, I'd had bid them a good day, turned dropped trow and barred them a place to to deposit a kiss. I'd probably given those worthless pieces of walking excretment a proper one finger salute as well !

Buy the time the Democrats get done with them,, We'll be LUCKY if they DON'T just turn around and do JUST that Meb..We'll be LUCKY if we're NOT paying 10 bucks a Gallons by mid summer..WORSE..IF we're ABLE to GET gas at all..I'd be inclined to tell those Idiots,,"You know what??YOU need US far more then WE need YOU..YOU explain to the American People WHY they're paying ten dollars a Gal. and if I don't like your explanation,,You'll be explaining why they can't get Gas at ANY price.."

Did you HEAR the Latest??

They're NOW looking to PUNISH OPEC under U.S.Law...How arrogant ARE these people???

TRY telling THAT to an EU that's paying 5 and 6 bucks a Gal...LMAO..

A waste of time doesn't even BEGIN to describe it. Much ado about nothing.

Nancy P and the democrats want to sue OPEC. Yeah, that's the ticket, Nancy.

There you have it, my liberal friends. Your 2006 Congress doing what they do best. Get out your Vaseline.

Yeah Hawkeye I heard that as well. When speaking of those politicians the word IMBECILES does come to mind. Has a lawyer or group of lawyers had any effect stopping China from patent copyright violations ? I would judge there success with that first before even considering giving them a single penny. How is Exxon/ Mobile faring in the World Court with their lawsuit against Chavez and his nationalizing their company assets ? I would judge that success therer before handing a lawyer or group of lawyers a single penny ! Here is another question about lawyers I love asking : " What has more worth for the job it actually does, a lawyer's words on paper or toilet paper ?" I know toilet paper takes care of the BLEEP at hand. Is a lawyer's paper so effective, or does it just leave you standing there with more on your hand ?

Its ridiculous our government is posturing for the camera , in the last meeting of this kind non of the oil executive where actually able to talk . It is all just political theater to help with reelection bids , fact is that OIL is $130 a barrel world wide NOT just here ...so attacking American oil producers of what 5% of the oil supply will do what exactly ?

Yup , I just wonder what they would do if we let them “hang em all” and the average American was forced to see that the price of gas did not come down...

Exactly exactly exactly!!! Hey look at us finally take years to do anything for you, but nothing will probably ever come of it.

Hawkeye: Actually Look north of our border. Companies such as suncor, enbridge, shell, transalta.. All oil and gas sector companies. That have invested big time in into wind farms, and shell investing big time into cellulose ethanol production..

All the hearings they've had to date have produced NADDA. This is a complete waste of time.
What they need to do is get a bunch of everyday working folks and have the Oil execs explain their RECORD BREAKING PROFITS to the commoners.
They give the senators some BS explaination, throw some money at their campaign funds all the questioning stops.
They wouldn't dare tap dance around the subject with thousands of angry working people standing in front of them.

Actually one of the "big Oil" folks responded with the fact that they had put the SAME amount they earned in domestic profits into R&D last year alone!

This is simply ridiculous! EVERYTIME you ask a Senator about domestic oil, they skirt right around it with the alternative energy comment! Ask them why we have rigs from China just 60 miles off of Miami and 45 miles off of Key West, how come we refuse to drill, and they just dismiss the question entirely!

All of this while BOTH sides of the isle are handing out subsidies to "Big Farmer" who has raised the price of corn from 2 bucks to over 9 in just one year... over 4 times! and when you ask about that, they ignore the question!!

Oil is only making between 6 and 9 percent profit! THAT is a fact, yet they insult our intelligence with trying to just state the actual dollar figure without any context!

At this point, I think oil needs to go up to $500 a barrel and a gallon of gas be 20 bucks a gallon! Lets just shut down the ENTIRE nation, and see if THEN our leaders start actually operating in our interest!

Simply put, the leadership that WE ELECTED! is playing chicken with big oil, who is NOT the culprit here, and force feed their socialist agenda to the American people!

I blame the American citizen! Everyone was up in arms on Immigration and amnesty, and responded to Washington so loud it rocked them back on their heels! Well lets just see how high prices go before that happens again.....

BTW- Big Oil does NOT control the price!

...but don't you understand the people of this country are truly stupid ! They are willing to play along with the idea that because Bush is an oil man THEN the oil companies must be doing “something wrong” and all we have to do is get a democrat in and everything will be A-O-K (like magic!) ....yea congress and the senate love “solar power “ but do you know who els loves solar power---The Oil companies ! They all love it for the same reason , it poses no threat to oil company sales/profits and never will , and because it has no effect on oil sales our government can continue to make millions a DAY on gas/oil/fuel tax...while throwing a tinny fraction of that yummy tax money at “solar power” and distracting all the idiots out there into thinking they are doing “something” !!!

It is all political posturing, none of those congressmen understand what it really would require to "fix' the problem.
Yeah, drilling into our own deposits would be good. But now worth a thing without capacity to refine it. Congress would do thins because it's an election year. The rest of the time they waste out money on junk like windmills and solar.
Anybody out there still doing research on Fusion?

...did any of you watch this “dog and pony show” ? One of the donkeys (a black woman) was extolling the virtues of a bill currently being considered (in private meetings!) by hill democrats that would Nationalize the entire oil industry...the funny part is she could not remember the word “nationalize” so she kept saying socialize !...how does that sound “comrade”!!!!!!!!!

I say bomb them and just take the oil, after all the money we have put into the Middle East it should be ours anyway...

I say bomb China ! (for purely humanitarian reasons LOL) and then tell OPEC we don't need any of their oil for a few months (drill for the stuff we have and use it!) and just wait for them to come begging to sell it to us again! The whole thing is sickening , all the wealth in all the world was built on the Hard work of the people of this country and has been given out freely by the more short sighted individuals in our society (liberals) now the world has grown strong enough (on our hand outs) to steal food from OUR PLATE !!!!!

I would love to see the tables turned, and have the oil execs grill the senators on why they continously refuse to allow them to take steps needed to lower the price of the oil by producing more of it. Banning drilling, both off of our coasts and inside our own borders, banning the building of new refineries, banning digging for shale, etc. While it won't solve the problem immediately, it would help a few years down the road. After all, we got to the point we are now *because* of all the restrictions placed so many years ago.

Environmentalist nut-jobs have a strangle-hold on us.

It was interesting that one oil executive was intent on letting the committee know that he is very aware of the reality of high gasoline prices, because he and his wife mix with regular people.

Makes you wonder how economically strapped his friends could be when he is earning $12 million per year. He probably lives in a run down neighborhood. LOL

The investigations have demonstrated repeatedly that it is not a matter of how much oil exists, but rather how much is made available by the oil cartel. It is rare that all refining capacity is used and only one permit to build a new refinery has been applied for in the last thirty years and that one was approved by the EPA.

Of course the oil companies would love to gain drilling permission/rights in Alaska before George II leaves office. I wonder how many new refineries they are going to build if they are given access to even more crude oil? They can't seem to refine as much as they presently have available to them.
