So the Polk County DA will be prosecuting six teenagers as adults for the beating of a classmate seen around the world.  That's little comfort to parents and reasonable people everywhere who are still struggling with the revelation  that young  girls could be that vicious--punching and beating a 16-year-old to the point of unconciousness, a concussion and hearing and eye damage.  During one of the many, many discussions following the showing of this video, I heard an internet expert say this is increasingly how our young people are seeking fame; that if you search "fights" on You Tube you'll find this incident isn't an isolated one. It was artist Andy Warhol that said way back in 1968, "in the future everyone will be world famous for 15 minutes."   They certainly got that. But perhaps   "15 minutes of shame"  is more like it.

15 minutes of shame is definitely it. And you know what? Just once I would like to see a parent of one of these children get on the news and say something like this. "My child will never lay a hand on another person after I get done with them. Their behavior was completely uncalled for and they will answer to me when I get them home". Then I'd like to hear that they actually punished the heck out of their child and taught them to treat people with respect. Instead, what I hear is "well my child didn't do anything" and "she called my daughter names". Wake up parents. Teach your children to respect people. Teach them morals and how to behave. Do not teach them that it's ok to treat people like animals. Because in the end you're setting them up for failure. And then you're no better than an animal yourself.

After what I just heard I say shame on Dr Phil. Shouldn't he be there to maybe offer the victim some counseling after her traumatic attack, and not bailing out the BULLY?

Thank you My-Louie... why is he doing this? Another freakshow for his belt??? I am beginning to wonder if Mercedes mother has had something to do with it. She was the one on TV talking about how Tori deserved what she got and that the video wasn't that bad because the girls only hit her one at a time....what a role model huh!?! This women who hasn't even been raising Mercedes pops back into her life long enough to get her OWN 15 minutes of FAME on Dr. Phil.... freaking SICK!!!!! She needs to be in jail right along with all of them. Her daughter IS NOT innocent in all this... she invited Tori over for spring break, probably hung out with her, had dinner with her and her grandmother, and then called these girls over to beat her up the next day... she Lured this girl into this situation and in the video is heard saying "oh, don't break the shelf"....if it was NOT FOR HER this would not have happened...period.... THIS MAKES ME SOOOOO ANGRY I WANT TO PUKE!

In my opinion, Dr. Phil has lost all creditablity to provide any services for rehabilitation and counseling and his license should be revoked. It appears he no longer cares about justice and accountability but what can he profit from. To me, his judgement is no better than those girls who did this crime. It's almost like he is beating the victim again. I hope that the judge does not let anyone of these girls or their relatives profit from this horrific crime. I also believe if parent would do some raising instead of birthing, then maybe these children would not have turned into society's worst nightmares. I want to see justice for this crime and this victim. I am tired of the legal system letting everyone plead bargain or down play offenses from felonies to misdeamenors and giving slaps on the wrists. These girls were old enough to premediate this crime, then they should be old enough to receive the punishment. I can only pray that the punishment fits the crime and maybe it might send a strong message to future violators.

Exactly Concernedmom1! Dr. phil did pull out, but the girl was already bailed out... is he going to make her mom pay back this money, or is she going to believe for the rest of her life she can just get bailed out itf the crime is bad enough to be on a show.... These girls need to be punished or we are going to start seeing more and more of these videos and we will not be able to do a thing about it because they will believe that it is no big deal, those 6 got away withit... so will we. ......SICK SICK SICK

I am only 17 but i believe that all those teens should be charged as adults. I watched that video two times and i noticed one of the girls screamed ,YES MOM. If the mother was there why didnt she come in and stop this dispute. This is one of the reasons i do not like highschool. All the dumb drama and ridiculous rumors spreading non-stop. I think the mother should be charged too. To the family of the victim i am sorry for the stupidty of all the other teens. I understand why so many rules are around. It is because of stupidty. All eight there not only should be charged as adults but they should have to publically apoligize not only to the family but to the rest of us teens for defamation of our charater!

If Mercedes mother was involved in any way she should be in jail right along with all involved and prosecuted at the full extent of the law for aiding and abetting. She has been trying to get her own notoriety out of this situation from the beginning. She has been on many talk shows and radio shows trying to make her daughter out to be an angel and it is making me sick. I would not doubt that SHE HERSELF did not contact the Dr. Phil show and request them to be a part of this!!!....NONE of these girls would have been in this situation if it was not for this piece of Sh!# of a girl. If she was such an angel then why didn't she tell the girls that Tori was at work and she didn't know when she would be home and that they could not come over or in the house because it was her Grandmothers house and she had respect for her Grandmother... and once they left she should have called Tori to warn her and if she was Tori's friend.. she should have had her back....

There is more to this story than is being said. For a principal to be interviewed and say that he is glad they are being tried as adults - there is more to it. What that tells me is, he has had problems with them before and has gotten no where with the students, as well as the parents.

This girls are bullies and have not been controlled. This just does not happen out of the clear blue for 15 mins of fame.

I know, my son is being bullied. He has been taking self-defense classes - prior to this situation happening, as I fear it is going to happen in the future.

I don't want these girls to go away for life or anything close, but I sure hope they all get more then just probation. To just drop her off after they beat her that bad is cruel!!
That is where she was calling home, in that house. Can't imagine going home to that, and then dropped off with no where to go. Shame, shame.
It is a good thing for her that the young lady that helped her came along. What comes aground goes around, she will be rewarded someday for her kindness... The others should be very worried.

So I just checked back to see if there was anymore news on this story and sure enough - they have a history of this behaviour.

Surprise Surprise - so WHY did the school board do nothing to this girl and allow her to continue going to school?

This is an epidemic that is sweeping our country. WHEN are we going to learn to say NO to kids?
