Yes that's a bad name for a church trip. If you don't know MILF stands for Mom's I'd like to...be friends with...or something like that. This weekend I went to Mexico with some of my angel like (yet hot)  girlfriends. Our church group ( about 50 of us) built 3 houses on one Street. We work with Baja Christian Ministries. We paint, we drywall, we deliver food and we pray.  This is  some of our group with a bunch of the local kids.  Seven  friends ( Left to right Nichole, Dayna, Karen, Inga, Brooke, Indy and Julie, me)  nine kids ( London, Madison, Cajun, Jackson, Hayden, Hunter,  Britty,  Nash and Zuzu)  and my Mom (Mom is next to me in the black). Mom had her first Margarita...hey you have to do something when the sun goes down.

On Saturday I painted one of the houses with a bunch of the kids. Yes I was Tom Sawyer and made them  think they wanted to do  most of the work. The kids used some of the extra wood to make a cross for the home. I swear ( shouldn't swear ...church trip) I didn't suggest the cross. They made it with some extra wood, they painted it and gave it to the people. Oh the people. We met a mom with 5 kids. All younger than mine. She had a one week old and a 9 mt old. She had her last baby  by herself in her home, not doctor, no hospital, no husband.  The photo below is of  2 of her children.  So one  week after having her baby this Mom is in church  ( a small shack that is a local mission). Maybe she wanted to pray or maybe she needed the food and diapers we were giving away. Our kids prayed with those kids. Then our kids showed them Bowling with Barbie ( you throw a Barbie at a wall...hey they are kids.)

It took about 6 hours to get home ( almost 3 hours at the border). But 10 minutes away from San Diego you have what Bono calls stupid poverty. We build basic shelter, 3 rooms, no running water ( we build the house they dig the outhouse) but at least they no longer sleep on a dirt floor. They get a roof and a floor. You get blessed in ways you can not imagine.

If you want to spend a weekend changing lives ( yours and others) log on to www.bajachristian.org  They have built over a thousand houses in Mexico.  The goal is to build 10,000 in the next 20 years.

Oh and here are some of our photos....I want to thank my girlfriend Brooke Bohm.   She is a great photographer ( I felt like I had my own personal paparazzi). She took all the good photos ( the rest I took) and she spent her birthday in Baja. Man it's tough to get a candle in a margarita.

You are a great person. You find time outside your busy being a MOM & working to help people in Mexico. Just be carefull in Mexico. I'm curious as to why the Mexican Government wont help there people. There country is so beautiful and so large and they let there poor go with out. I'm glad that I am glad I live in AMERICA. Your a ANGEL with big arms so you can help the less unforunate. I'm so happy to blog with you. Your a superstar 1.

Dorothy,
I could tell you are a Christian just by the way you carry yourself. You are truly blessed!

Well done, Dorothy. I'm not an overtly religious person, but I'll take the kind of Christianity you and Jimmy Carter espouse - walking the walk without being preachy or judgmental about it - over the claptrap we hear from so-called celebrity preachers like Pat Robertson and the late Jerry Falwell. You're kind of like Kristin Chenoweth - not as curvy or musical, but still faithful and sexy at the same time. Keep the faith!

You are a wonderful person for helping others.
I checked out your web link, http://www.bajachristian.org/ and will make a (small-wish I could give more) donation.
It is a great idea. I would love to take my kids over to help out! If we teach our children to be giving and grateful, they will not end up like Paris:(
This is an important and worthy cause that ALL parents and their kids should be involved in.
My teenage girls worry soo much about stupid insignificant b.s. and I constantly try to show them the WORTHY things in life that need our time and attention. Thankyou for the good example. May God continue to Bless you and yours.

Bono? dont even get me started...I LOVE that man!!!!! I am one of his "ONE" supporters. The only thing I wear on my body (jewelry wise) is the white "ONE" band. It is old, but still in good condition. It is the first one I bought and I will not remove it. My husband gets mad at me cause I want to buy every shirt in every size and color. Big supporter of "RED" as well.

Hi Dorothy, this is my second attempt at this. I have never blogged before, but this is an emergency. First, I read about your trip to Mexico, and want to thank you for the work you did there. I have afriend who needs help. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist and work with Foster Children in the system. My friend, (J) does the same thing and is the Program Director of our foster agency, Masada Homes in Lancaster, Ca. Yesterday, 5/22/07, her 6 month old Maltese "Lucky" was stolen from our office. Next door is the Probation Department and we found out that one of the kids on probation took Lucky. We are all devastated, of course we called the police, but they can't do anything. (J) is a selfless, giving and caring woman who has been through several losses over the past two years. Her daughter gave her Lucky when she went away to college, so that her mom wouldn't be lonely. Two months later, he was diagnosed with Parvo, but through a miracle or"LUCK,"he survived. Now he has been stolen by the very people that his mommy helps. I am concerned about both Lucky and (J). Due to her recent losses as well as her "big heart" and always helping others, her health has deteriorated considerably. I am very concerned about her well being, if Lucky is not found. I was hoping that you, your news team, Teddy and Jillian might come to the rescue. This would be a great human interest story. If you could send a news person out to Lancaster and interview (J), she is offering a reward, she could show pictures of Lucky, they could interview the foster kids who are touched by Lucky

Hi Dorothy, it's me again. The last part of my blog was left out. Lucky's presence in our office is indispensable. When the foster children have to visit our office, he greets them with wet kisses and alot of affection. This means alot to these kids who have suffered abuse, losses and traumas you can't even imagine. Lucky makes their visit a little easier. We need a "LUCKY ALERT." I hope you can help us, and all of the children that he has touched. It is hard enough for these kids, with everything that is going on in the world today. When I was their age I didn't worry about the things they worry about; dying, getting shot at school, being kidnapped, being fed, being taken care of etc. Now, their Lucky has been taken from them. I would like to thank you for doing the work you do and taking the time to read this. Thank You.
