I came to work today to find that a good friend and coworker was killed last night on I-4 riding his motorcycle home.  From what I understand, he was rear-ended by a car that didn't see him.

Every time I see "cagers" driving while talking on the phone, eating, turning to talk with passengers,  I wonder how long it will be before they hit someone because something was more important to them then driving.  I'm not saying that happened in this situation, but it happens all too often.  If your distracted only a few seconds on I-4, your vehicle has probably travelled several hundred yards...a lot can happen in that distance.

I'll miss Brain.  He was always willing to help out a co-worker.  I know when I had an assignment for him, I knew it would be accomplished.  He would never complain, and the first to ask "what do you need"?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, when you think you have to make that call on the phone while driving, or eat that sandwich, or anything else that can distract you, IS IT WORTH SOMEONES LIFE??????

Sorry to hear about your friend. Any fatality in any accident is a shame.

Every time I see some "non-cager" riding down the yellow line, or popping-a-wheelie, or swerving thru traffic like it's a video game, I think it is a shame to rest of the bikers that these idiots cause a cager like me to not respect motorcycles enough. I know that is the wrong attitude to have, but I am only human. A large part of me just wants to open my door as these idiots pass betweeen my car and another... but, I don't want to hassle of getting my car fixed by their insurance company, and I don't want anyone hurt.

Non-cager/cager now thats something new.
Crotch rockets as alot of people refer to the sport bikes are riden by young kids mostly and as everything there are a few bad apples and as the old saying goes a few bad apples spoiles the rest of the bunch.
I have seen people reading books, talking on phones, text messaging, eating, and even changing cloths while driving cars/trucks in my years of driving cars, trucks and riding my bike. the point here isnt the type of vehicle but if you are operating it then do just that, OPERATE IT and leave the other stuff out.

Sorry to hear about your friend FlaNative.
Its a shame when anybody is killed while riding or driving especially when it is caused by some moron who cant pay attention to what they are doing. Some people cant even walk and chew bubble gum much less operate a vehile and talk on a phone.

FlaNative, I'm so, so sorry to hear this! People are so freaking oblivious to motorcycles
it just makes me SICK! Every time I pull up beside one at a light, and "catch their eye", I male the motions of praying hands, and point from me to them. They always smile, nod, and mouth, "Thank you!" I pray for ALL bikers, even the little s#!8$ on those danged crotch rockets. I've told more than one of them,
after catching up with them riding wildly, "It's a good thing I'm not your Momma,
'cause I'd wear your fanny out right now!" I usually get an apology. My prayers will be with your friend's family, and with you! May The LORD wrap you in His arms, and comfort you with His love, and give you strength! God Bless!

OMG...I am so so so sorry! I am really sick of the distraction people do while driving on the roads! Especially those who lean over more to the passenger side of the car talking on that dam phone...I JUST WANT TO RAM THEM!!!

When is the ride for Brian?

Sorry for that loss... But I watch out more for bikes... but I hope he had a helmet. I scream at bikers not wearing a helmet... some accidents dont matter but most help. No helmet no sympathy.

Droopyz you go ahead and try that door crap on me and you'll find yourself quickly respecting a "non-cager" as you put it.

There are far more fools driving cars than there are driving bikes. Do you feel the need to buy a Hummer and kill them all by running them off the road?

Man such ignorance really irks me, and probably the other 99% of bikers out there who don't do any of the $*#* you threw out there.

Sorry for your lose FlaNative, and I'm sorry some folks don't have a clue and only make things worse.

In the past 2 years I've had to people I've known die from motorcycle accidents. I rode a bike when I was younger and I remember many a close call because people didn't see me. I got lucky, the worst I sustained was a broken ankle.

My prayers go out to your friends, family and friends, FlaNative. It's always tragic when something happens due to an accident that could have been avoided.

I'm sure your friend would have appreciated the post.

Born and raised in Tampa, I'm a 5th generation Fla Native and proud of it! My mom raised 6 of us by herself, in a time long before welfare and food stamps. She worked 3 jobs, which is probably where I learned my work ethic and my distain for people who are too lazy to work and "expect" their welfare checks and food stamps year after year, generation after generation! I spent over 20 years in the Air Force, going in during Viet Nam and leaving after Gulf 1, and have a son currently in the Army preparing for deployment to Iraq. The loves of my life are my wife, kids, grandkids and the Harley (not necessarily in that order, but don't tell the wife, kids or grandkids)!! When not working on my second "career", I ride with a group called the Patriot Guard (patriotguard.org), attending the funerals of our heros who gave their lives for our freedoms. Most in our organization use our "personal days" or "without pay" to attend with permission of the family, and are proud to do it!! This group started because of people such as those at Westboro Baptist "Church" who began protesting these funerals with signs such as "thank God for dead soliders". NEVER AGAIN!!! Yep, I'm a right wing, conservative redneck. I don't like people using abortion as birth control. I think the ACLU is the worst thing that ever happened to this great country. I think 99% of the lawyers give the rest of them a bad name. I promise that if you come into my house in the middle of the night you will be carried out and buried. I think no one should be on welfare for more than 2 years during their life I don't think I should have to pay to support your kids fathered by someone whose name you don't know. I think every county should have a jail just like the Sheriff in Maricopa County AZ with tents and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I don't care if what i say offends you. I think illegals should be put on a bus and taken back across the boarder. I don't think I should have to press 1 for English. I think you have the right to burn our flag, but I promise you won't be successful if I'm around and don't care if I get sent to jail while your left-wing, liberal, Michael Moore, Rosie, Alec Baldwin America haters cheer!!!! I will PROUDLY go to jail to protect HER!!! If we disagree here, that's fine. You have to right to be wrong. I don't take it personal and hope you don't either.
