I got to wondering if any of you fellow old-timers out there have any copies of the old "Hurricanes 19xx" that were published by WTVT during the Roy Leep administration. If I am not mistaken, the first edition came out in the late-50's.

For those of you that have never seen one, these were high-quality, excellently-researched guides. They were printed on slick card stock paper; in other words, they were far removed from newspaper quality. Not only did they contain all of the pertinent hurricane info and tracking charts that are found in the "hurricane guides" that you get at Publix, but these booklets contained all sorts of meteorological information as well as snipets about the weather personnel on-staff at the time (anyone remember Bill Kowal?).

I still have mine. I have the guides from 1966 through 1972 as well as 1975. I do not know what year is was when Channel 13 quit publishing them, but they were GREAT. And, get this, the station charged only 25 cents for them!

If anyone has these guides from other years, I'd be curious.

Look on Ebay. Ever heard Umma Gumma?

Not a bad idea. I am on eBay all the time looking for motorcycle parts and old photo equipment.

Indeed, Ummagumma is one of those "non-mainstream" Floyd albums. Most people have never even heard of it. "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict" is the song that pretty much defines the pinnacle of the psychedelic Floyd era. Pretty bizarre stuff and, to be honest with you, I have not heard it in a long time. A great example of their psychedelic material is the song "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun". It wasn't until the album "Atom Heart Mother" that the Floyd entered the realm of the concept album. Some (dare I say, most) of their early stuff was pretty spacey.

Great song! You ARE a fan, aren't you?

Here's something that you might want to check out...

VH1 Classic runs a series called "Classic Albums". They did one on Dark Side of the Moon. It was done fairly recently (you can tell by looking at Dave Gilmour). It is really a well-done one-hour documentary. Contains some great clips including some pre-DSOTM material. It also includes new interviews with the personnel involved (including Alan Parsons who engineered Dark Side).

VH1 Classic reruns it from time to time. Supposedly, Wal-Mart sells DVD's of the series but I have not looked for it there.

VERY worthwhile, though!

Ever listen to "Interstellar Overdrive" through headphones?

I am your normal, middle-class, "working Joe". But I am also a capitalist and believe that nothing good comes from socialistic entitlement programs. I believe in hunting down and killing terrorists like the little rats that they are (except that that statement is denigrating to rats). I grew up in a very conservative household and was fortunate enough to have had a conservative American Government teacher (a retired US Army colonel) who helped to show me the "right" way. Are there things that I would like to change? Absolutely. But NOT the kind of "change" being espoused by Hillarock Obaminton. I have lived in Florida for forty of my forty-eight years. I've been a big Pink Floyd fan since my teen years hence the moniker, FloydFreak. My friends call me Freak, Floyd, and FF. The libs call me a neocon. I wear that badge proudly. Please note that I enjoy engaging in spirited discussion - even with those with whom I disagree. There are a number of individuals on these boards whom I respect even if I DO think that they're out of touch with reality. Please note also that I do not tolerate personal attacks on my character. If you think that I'm full of BLEEP, you have the right to say so. But drag my character into the gutter and expect retaliation in kind with FloydFreak's own brand of sarcasm. Keep it civil and we'll get along fine. To those of you that see good in America and want the OPPORTUNITY for prosperity for all - and do not just seek to soak it to "the rich", I say God bless you. And God bless America!
