I've got another question for Paul & Company:

At what depth are the Gulf and Tampa Bay water temperatures taken? If they are measured too close to the surface without good water mixing, the value will be inordinately high due to the effects of sunlight (if taken during the day). And, of course, the deeper the water, the colder the temperature, so you can't measure it at too great a depth.

There are some other considerations as well.

Does the structure of the device used for measuring affect the currents, thus introducing an error in the reading?

What happens if a vessel is moored close to the device, thus putting the adjacent waters in a shadow?

Is the temperature measuring device exothermic? I.e. if it transmits an electrical signal indicating the temperature, does it radiate any heat, or conversely is it endothermic and removing heat from the water?

I'm sure one of the more techie weather guys will have an explanation, without having to engage in any sort of logical quantum physics and jiggery-pokery involving the Copenhagen interpretation of Schrödinger's cat.

I recall having a dinner one evening with a couple of physicist friends at an odd little chinese and pizza restaurant in small town Quebec. The server who was apparently in love with my then 76 year old buddy had brought us coffee and donuts while we waited for our chinese feast.

We immediately wondered if those donuts were for dessert. And, more importantly if we consumed them first, would there be more donuts later. I postulated that it was somewhat like Schrödinger's cat, in that we wouldn't know the answer unless we consumed the existing donuts. They became known as Schrödinger's donuts.

The best line, though was when someone pointed out it was the "Big Beigne" theory. Beigne is the French word for donut, and is pronounced approximately as "bang" in English.

I am your normal, middle-class, "working Joe". But I am also a capitalist and believe that nothing good comes from socialistic entitlement programs. I believe in hunting down and killing terrorists like the little rats that they are (except that that statement is denigrating to rats). I grew up in a very conservative household and was fortunate enough to have had a conservative American Government teacher (a retired US Army colonel) who helped to show me the "right" way. Are there things that I would like to change? Absolutely. But NOT the kind of "change" being espoused by Hillarock Obaminton. I have lived in Florida for forty of my forty-eight years. I've been a big Pink Floyd fan since my teen years hence the moniker, FloydFreak. My friends call me Freak, Floyd, and FF. The libs call me a neocon. I wear that badge proudly. Please note that I enjoy engaging in spirited discussion - even with those with whom I disagree. There are a number of individuals on these boards whom I respect even if I DO think that they're out of touch with reality. Please note also that I do not tolerate personal attacks on my character. If you think that I'm full of BLEEP, you have the right to say so. But drag my character into the gutter and expect retaliation in kind with FloydFreak's own brand of sarcasm. Keep it civil and we'll get along fine. To those of you that see good in America and want the OPPORTUNITY for prosperity for all - and do not just seek to soak it to "the rich", I say God bless you. And God bless America!
