FloydFreak's Blog

The following is another duplicate of one of my posts on the TB site. But since you folks in Orlando seem to enjoy the taste of blood, I thought that I would offer up another opportunity for a feeding frenzy:

Those of you that are not familiar with Zicam, allow me to enlighten you...

Zicam is a product sold by Matrixx Initiatives, Inc. that supposedly cures (or at least shortens the duration of) the common cold. Rush Limbaugh does radio spots for Zicam (so right there, you boys KNOW that it must s**k). My contention with this product is this: How do you prove that it works? You don't really. You can only say for absolute certain that it doesn't work WHEN it doesn't work.

At any rate, a couple of years, I tried Zicam when I felt myself coming down with a cold. I thought, "What the he!!; for ten bucks, I'll try it." I did and got sick as he!!. I wrote Zicam and they promptly refunded my ten bucks.

Now, for the war on terror: I liken it to Zicam. In other words, we are embroiled in this war against Islamic extremism which I believe is THE defining issue of our time - and perhaps of ALL time.

The anti-Bush crowd is out there railing against the president (and, has been pointed out numerous times, HE isn't even running for re-election). In my opinion, as flawed as GWB's presidency has been (mostly with respect to immigration and out-of-control spending), the fight against the terrorists is one facet of Bush's presidency that he HAS gotten right. The bashers love to point out this weakness and that weakness in our defenses (I'm not going to argue that weaknesses exist - they do); they love to speak out against waterboarding and other methods of interrogation.

But you can NOT say unequivocally that the war on terror is NOT a success. The United States and its interests abroad (the military notwithstanding) have not been hit since September 11th, 2001.

I have coined the phrase "The Zicam Principle". In other words, until it can be proven that it does NOT work, you have to assume that it IS working.

You make a good statement here.

I view the War on Terror not as a cold though, I view it more as a Cancer.

We haven't been able to pinpoint the source the of the cancer and it seems to be spreading the more we attack it. We are currently using the equivalent of Chemotherapy to kill the cancer but it ends up killing the good as well as the bad and it's slowly killing us in the process.

Not to mention the Chemotherapy is very costly and if it doesn't end up killing us we will not be able to continue paying for the therapy in the future.

We let the government detain us at the airports, search our private property, spy on us, wiretap our phones, read our e-mail, issue National ID Cards (they're coming this March), borrow and print money until what we have is worthless, send our people to die and be maimed for life, And we willingly ask for more.

The War on Terrorism is working very well. I keep hearing they hate our freedom. We gave up our freedom.
They won.

ThinkTanked, nice analogy.

zbert, I feel the same. If the goal of a terrorist is to change your way of life through fear, ubl won in spades. That makes me want to puke.

Land of the Free and Home of the Brave eh? Not any longer. It surprised me how easily WeThePeople rolled over and willingly gave up some liberties so our government would 'keep us safe'. Our Founding Fathers are rolling. Or, perhaps they saw this coming? Democracy takes responsibility, not apathy, to keep it alive.

We abdicated responsibility decades ago. I thought Ron Paul might give us a chance to take it back, but it appears voters prefer more of the same Corporatocracy . Whee for our children and their children.

I think they did see this coming. They gave many clear warnings about how dangerous government is. We decided to ignore their warnings and go back to what is important.

"If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy. Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. The loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or imagined, from abroad."

Why waste your time on this "blog idiot". He doesn't believe the BS he spews, but enjoys the attention he gets for being a good "sheeple" and paroting the party line. He ran over here from the Tampa Blog thinking he would find simular feeble minds, but I see that is not the case.

Good shot, Tanked. But you missed the target completely. If you read my post carefully, you will see that I am not equating TERRORISM to the common cold. What I AM comparing is the efficacies of (a) The war on terrorism, and (b) A product that is marketed as being a cure for the common cold. I stand by my assertion that this is a valid comparison.

Your equating terrorism to cancer is a valid analogy; I’ll give you that. Howver, I disagree with you in the final analysis. Grated, the fight against cancer and terrorism are both expensive. However, I submit to you that if we do not spend the money necessary to fight the cancer, the patient will no longer be alive. Therefore, any money saved will be useful only to the patient’s heirs.

And I suppose that we are going to end up disagreeing on the effectiveness of the war. I don't see it as chemotherapy killing the good. We're killing TERRORISTS. Read the post on the TB site by YankeeFan. I have maintained on these boards that our ONLY deficiency with regard to the war is that we are not fighting it with all of our might - mostly due to the political games being played by the left. We CAN win it - if we have the WILL.

Oh, For_The_People (Can't_Get_Laid_Back_Farmer):
Your ability to articulate your position is impressive ("blog idiot"). Thanks for stopping by again.

I've decided to let your comments stand, just like Mr. Hand did to Spiccoli in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".

It's funny, I have this same argument with Doctors at the hospital about real cancer... sure the patient has cancer but sometimes when they go in with surgery to remove the cancer it causes the cancer to spread rapidly and occasionally the patient dies in a couple of weeks or so. I just wonder how much longer the patient would have lived had they not tried the invasive surgery.

Northton: I would concur IF it can be proven that the war ISN'T working - and that cannot be proven.

I stand by the assertion that I made in my original post, unless and until it can be proven that it ISN'T working, you have to assume that it is.

We cannot prove it is working, but one can make the assumption that the following logic chain MAY be true:
1: We got hurt on 9/11, and loosely defined the attackers
2: GWB launched "TWOT" and since that time not one attack has been made on our home soil.(I am not dumb enough on so un-informed as to think there have not been attacks in other places.)
3: They seem to be spending their time and energy fighting us elsewhere..
4: So, if the purpose of TWOT was to keep attacks away from the mainland US, then it IS working.
But on the other hand, they are still hitting other places in the world...so is it really?????

see y'all!

I am your normal, middle-class, "working Joe". But I am also a capitalist and believe that nothing good comes from socialistic entitlement programs. I believe in hunting down and killing terrorists like the little rats that they are (except that that statement is denigrating to rats). I grew up in a very conservative household and was fortunate enough to have had a conservative American Government teacher (a retired US Army colonel) who helped to show me the "right" way. Are there things that I would like to change? Absolutely. But NOT the kind of "change" being espoused by Hillarock Obaminton. I have lived in Florida for forty of my forty-eight years. I've been a big Pink Floyd fan since my teen years hence the moniker, FloydFreak. My friends call me Freak, Floyd, and FF. The libs call me a neocon. I wear that badge proudly. Please note that I enjoy engaging in spirited discussion - even with those with whom I disagree. There are a number of individuals on these boards whom I respect even if I DO think that they're out of touch with reality. Please note also that I do not tolerate personal attacks on my character. If you think that I'm full of BLEEP, you have the right to say so. But drag my character into the gutter and expect retaliation in kind with FloydFreak's own brand of sarcasm. Keep it civil and we'll get along fine. To those of you that see good in America and want the OPPORTUNITY for prosperity for all - and do not just seek to soak it to "the rich", I say God bless you. And God bless America!
