Hillary and McCain want a federal gas tax "holiday" this summer. For once, I have to salute Osama for not going along with this hare-brained idea. So we reduce the price of gas by eighteen cents. Whoopie-freaking-doo! And this is assuming that the retailers are going to pass along the entire 18 cents and not pocket three or four for themselves.

First off, the news this evening showed Hillary last summer speaking about how we need to invest in our nation's transportation infrastructure (this coming after the I-35 bridge collapse in Minnesota). Now she wants to diminish the source of funding for said improvements.

Hillary wants to impose the ever-popular "windfall profits" tax. Oh boy! That's the ticket - make those evil oil companies PAY, and pay dearly! BullBLEEP! WHERE do you dumbocrats think that windfall profits taxes come from? From the pockets of the CEO's? Don't be a fool and fall for this. It's going to come from you and me - in the form of higher gas prices.

I've been beating this drum for months now but there is one solution (if only a partial solution)...

CUT BACK ON YOUR USE OF PETROLEUM.

I averaged 49.5 miles per gallon on my drive to Pinellas this morning. True, much of my drive on  I-75 was spent at 62-65 miles per hour. But hey - if I can do it, EVERYONE can. Until we CUT BACK, prices are not going down. Get used to that fact.

As unpleasant as the phrase "supply and demand" may be, it points to the core of market pricing. Sorry if you are stuck with a gas guzzling road monster and have a long commute. We must adopt new habits in our driving and vehicles we drive or expect to see these fuel prices to soar "out of sight."

I have cut back on using my husbands truck for things that can fit in my car. This is usually an major inconvenience for me since I have a small car. I feel I am doing my little part to protest the HIGH prices.
I pick my daughter up from everyday, and I get so aggravated at the parents that sit in their cars while they idol for 30-40 minutes.
The other day one of the parents pulls up in a Hummer left it running for 20 minutes I timed it thinking what a waste. I thought it was for the ac but the windows were down.
Not to mention that they played loud ganster rap. That is another topic...

I heard Crist this morning on the radio being interviewed about his proposition of a tax reduction on fuel for one week in July. He made me want to throw up. When the radio interviewer asked him quite tersely 'what is a mere $20 bucks going to do for anyone in Florida' which is what the average consumer would get..and Crist said 'well it is something and to many people it is alot of money'......what planet is he from? What an elitist. That is about the most haughty remark he has made..much like his "taxes will drop like a rock and insurance rates would also." Crist needs to get back to reality.

$20 bucks What's that gonna do? If it were 20 every week we were saving, then I'd have to say he is trying.

I wouldn't think that $20 is a lot of money to even the homeless.

Louie, you are right. It is nothing when the cost of everything is so high right now. Crist should be ashamed of such a remark. And, I just read that the congressmen in the House of
Rep get luxury leased cars, the insurance and the fuel...with OUR TAX Dollars. That made me furious. Catch the article on Drudge and email your congress members.

The relaxing of any of the gas taxes at this point is not feasible and simply for political gain. This was tried before in the past and what happens as soon as the tax drops off the wholesalers and retailers immediately make up for the hole and it is not passed along to consumers. Profit in the pockets of those it was not designed to help and then when the tax goes back on the gas is higher than it was to start with. We must ammend the way we obtain fuels and the use of them. There are at least in the millions if not billions of barrels of crude in the Florida straits that is going to be bogarted by the chinese oil companies from Cuba right out from under our noses not to mention the Gulf areas, eastern seaboard and LOOK OUT FOR THE BACKLASH, ANWR!! We must produce more oil on our shores to ever hope of wresting some of the financial controls from foreign sources.

This tax proposal is a temporary band-aid. Hillary is only supporting it for an attempt to get votes from those who do not realize they are going to pay for it somewhere else? She will say anything at this time to get votes. I am not a Obama supporter, but I agree with him on this issue. This tax cut is not going to lower the price of oil, just gas temporarly. While you will be taxed somewhere else. We should be buying oil from other places, like Mexico. They have one of the largest reserves. Not to mention Alaska, which has enough crude oil to last the next 200 years.

I am your normal, middle-class, "working Joe". But I am also a capitalist and believe that nothing good comes from socialistic entitlement programs. I believe in hunting down and killing terrorists like the little rats that they are (except that that statement is denigrating to rats). I grew up in a very conservative household and was fortunate enough to have had a conservative American Government teacher (a retired US Army colonel) who helped to show me the "right" way. Are there things that I would like to change? Absolutely. But NOT the kind of "change" being espoused by Hillarock Obaminton. I have lived in Florida for forty of my forty-eight years. I've been a big Pink Floyd fan since my teen years hence the moniker, FloydFreak. My friends call me Freak, Floyd, and FF. The libs call me a neocon. I wear that badge proudly. Please note that I enjoy engaging in spirited discussion - even with those with whom I disagree. There are a number of individuals on these boards whom I respect even if I DO think that they're out of touch with reality. Please note also that I do not tolerate personal attacks on my character. If you think that I'm full of BLEEP, you have the right to say so. But drag my character into the gutter and expect retaliation in kind with FloydFreak's own brand of sarcasm. Keep it civil and we'll get along fine. To those of you that see good in America and want the OPPORTUNITY for prosperity for all - and do not just seek to soak it to "the rich", I say God bless you. And God bless America!
