I spent last week in Seattle, WA to attend a trade show. I had been to the Pacific NW once before but never visited Seattle. Very cool city even if it is slanted very far to the left. Not as badly as San Francisco but definitely a very liberal city.

Here's something that took place that rubbed me the wrong way - let's see what you folks think:

When I went to obtain my badge for the trade show (as an exhibitor), the young lady processing badge requests was wearing an "Obama '08" pin prominently on her shirt. Given the fact that the show was being sponsored by a local trade organization, I thought that the young lady's political statement was inappropriate. I sent an e-mail to the show's organizers expressing my displeasure. I told them that I am ALL FOR someone's right to express their political viewpoints. If the young lady had wanted to hand out Obama literature OUTSIDE of the convention center on her own time, well more power to her.

But I thought that espousing a political viewpoint while representing a professional organization was in poor taste at best.

Floyd, why didn't you find the time to sit down with this misguided person, and point out the Obama lies? It was an opportunity lost. As for the pin, I guess it would fall under freedoms? You think?

Just because you have the right to do something, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

FF - I agree, it was in poor taste and I think maybe you should have pointed that out to her. I don't think she would have understood the point, nor would she have acquiesced to your wishes, but I find that trying to get a liberal to see the error of their ways is much like trying to teach a pig to sing...It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig. At least with liberals you can walk away satisfied that you ruined their day. :)

There is a time and place for everything.

Doing what she did is a good way to lose customers the next time they have a show!!!

Anyone watch the show “house” ? in a scene in last nights episode when house is in a stall in a bathroom you see a sticker on the wall that says “vote for change OB” it actually reads vote for change 08 but a wall was placed so that it blocked part of the 8 making it look like a B ....pretty sneaky Fox !

Good points, both of you.

Gammies: As I mentioned, I was not arguing about the young lady's freedom of expression. HOWEVER, as an employer (the sponsor), I would not want MY people making political statements while representing MY company or organization.

Jabit: I did send an e-mail to the sponsoring organization expressing my displeasure. Five days later, I have yet to receive a reply from them.

I am your normal, middle-class, "working Joe". But I am also a capitalist and believe that nothing good comes from socialistic entitlement programs. I believe in hunting down and killing terrorists like the little rats that they are (except that that statement is denigrating to rats). I grew up in a very conservative household and was fortunate enough to have had a conservative American Government teacher (a retired US Army colonel) who helped to show me the "right" way. Are there things that I would like to change? Absolutely. But NOT the kind of "change" being espoused by Hillarock Obaminton. I have lived in Florida for forty of my forty-eight years. I've been a big Pink Floyd fan since my teen years hence the moniker, FloydFreak. My friends call me Freak, Floyd, and FF. The libs call me a neocon. I wear that badge proudly. Please note that I enjoy engaging in spirited discussion - even with those with whom I disagree. There are a number of individuals on these boards whom I respect even if I DO think that they're out of touch with reality. Please note also that I do not tolerate personal attacks on my character. If you think that I'm full of BLEEP, you have the right to say so. But drag my character into the gutter and expect retaliation in kind with FloydFreak's own brand of sarcasm. Keep it civil and we'll get along fine. To those of you that see good in America and want the OPPORTUNITY for prosperity for all - and do not just seek to soak it to "the rich", I say God bless you. And God bless America!
