NBC ran a very touching tribute to Tim Russert this morning. It was a special Meet the Press hosted by Tom Brokaw which featured Mike Barnicle, Doris Kearns-Goodwin, Gwen Ifill, James Carville, Mary Madalin, and Betsy Fischer, executive producer of the show.

I was never a huge fan of Russert. I found his questioning, along with most of NBC's on-air personnel, to be liberally slanted. But he did ask the tough questions and he never let anyone off easy, regardless of political affiliation.

But it was Russert's commitment to his family and his friends which I believe will define his legacy. I have heard a great  deal about the books that he has authored whose themes  have to do with fatherhood and family. I have never read his work but I may do just that. Russert died at fifty-eight - way too young.

With my own father having recently turned ninety-one, and after having watched the Meet the Press tribute, I want to remind everyone - if you still have your father - to call him today, Fathers' Day. I hope that you, like me, have wonderful memories of your childhood. Take time to remember those things.

And to my father and all of you dads out there...HAPPY FATHERS' DAY!

Well done Floyd. Yes, he was way too young.

Fellas? Please take care of yourselves and do what the doc - and the missus - are telling you to do. You might last a little longer...

(Just got off the phoene with my Dad...sent him anemail full of things I remember about him - from when I was about the age 3 onwards... hope he enjoys it - )

Happy Father's Day yourself. And to all the dads out there. Well done guys. Well done.

Although the caste of characters on the posthumous tribute to Tim Russert looked like a "Who's Who" of the liberal mainstream media, I thought it was a touching memorial. An even more meaningful tribute, I thought, was the commentary on Fox News Sunday hosted by Chris Wallace. Sometimes the greatest praise comes from honorable adversaries rather than "rank and file" adherents.

I am your normal, middle-class, "working Joe". But I am also a capitalist and believe that nothing good comes from socialistic entitlement programs. I believe in hunting down and killing terrorists like the little rats that they are (except that that statement is denigrating to rats). I grew up in a very conservative household and was fortunate enough to have had a conservative American Government teacher (a retired US Army colonel) who helped to show me the "right" way. Are there things that I would like to change? Absolutely. But NOT the kind of "change" being espoused by Hillarock Obaminton. I have lived in Florida for forty of my forty-eight years. I've been a big Pink Floyd fan since my teen years hence the moniker, FloydFreak. My friends call me Freak, Floyd, and FF. The libs call me a neocon. I wear that badge proudly. Please note that I enjoy engaging in spirited discussion - even with those with whom I disagree. There are a number of individuals on these boards whom I respect even if I DO think that they're out of touch with reality. Please note also that I do not tolerate personal attacks on my character. If you think that I'm full of BLEEP, you have the right to say so. But drag my character into the gutter and expect retaliation in kind with FloydFreak's own brand of sarcasm. Keep it civil and we'll get along fine. To those of you that see good in America and want the OPPORTUNITY for prosperity for all - and do not just seek to soak it to "the rich", I say God bless you. And God bless America!
