Here's a subject that Boortz revisited today on his radio show. You liberals out there should take heed as this is enough to make you consider not voting for his highness, the king.

The democrats attempted to pass this in the early-1990's before the Republicans took control of both houses of Congress. Here's a simplified explanation:

Your house is worth $200,000. Houses of similar value in your neighborhood rent for $2000 per month. You own your home free and clear so you have no mortgage payment. The libs want to tax you on "imputed income" of $24,000 per year (12 x $2000); in other words, they want to consider the amount that you would have paid, but didn't, for housing - income for taxation purposes. So you would have the tidy amount of $24,000 added to your taxable income.

Pretty nifty of those geniuses in the democrat party, huh? Those of you that are considering putting "God" in the White House might want to think twice before pulling the lever for Obama.

Floyd,

You must have read that wrong! Democrats are for the little guy! You know, the Joe Six Packs out there! They would never try to tax you on what you SAVED BY NOT RENTING!

>>>>The above statement is sarcasm and is not intended to be an endorcement of the Democrat party. This disclaimer is for those too stupid to realize it's sarcasm. (IE Democrats)

That is the most ridiculous and facists thing they could do.
What is next? They will tell you that you should be earning XX amount but your employer only pays you YY amount and x is greater than y so you have to pay a big fat $$$$$$$?
Don't even get me started on taxes. The IRS sent my a letter for my 2006 return and I owe them $1205 more than the 12000 I paid. And they sent it to me and said I had 30 days to pay it or file an extension. I DON'T OWE IT but they are going to make me fight tooth and nail.

"Imputed" income has been in the IRS Code for many, many years.

A few "imputed" income items included in taxable income are: the value of life insurance paid by the employer on over $50,000 of coverage, the value of a company car supplied to an employee to use 24/7, & some interest free or below market interest loans.

These type "imputed" income provisions have remained in the IRS code through administrations & Congresses both Republican & Democrat. They have remained even when other major tax law changes are enacted.

As for the claim that the dreaded libs want to tax you on your imputed value of your house - I went to the boortz web site figuring that he can't just expect anyone to blindly believe this without proof. Granted, I didn't look everywhere on this site, after all I want to save some of the laughs for another day. But where is the proof to back up this claim? This claim was also made on "Today's Nuze" of 11/01/06. There are links all over that posting, but no links when he talks about this house value imputed income.

OK - so I put "Democrats Imputed Income" in a search engine. There is a few sites claiming this in Democrats Secret Plans, but no proof.

So where is the proof to back up this claim? Is there any proof that a majority of Democrats supported this? How about even proof that 1 Democrat proposed this?

And since the Democrats controlled Congress for the first few years of the clinton administration, why wasn't this claimed plan hatched?

RandyLoo - the IRS letter should have explained why they are claiming you owe.

If they are claiming you didn't claim income, the letter should show how much & from who.

If they are claiming interest & penalties on late payments, check their dates & calculations. If your income wasn't fairly steady for the year (or if there were circunstances beyond your control) you might be able to get this reduced or eliminated.

If you see any discrepancies, you can try & get it corrected through the mail. But the better, faster way is to go down to your local IRS office with your records (take a copy for them, do not leave originals with them)

If a tax can be levied on something like a "imputed income," just imagine what this precedent could and would be forged into? Leave it to the liberal Left to outdo themselves in creating nefarious schemes levied against the productive members of this society.

If successful, the new territory would open the flood gates for future punitive taxation on any and all tangible assests citzens strive to gain all through life. BTW, don't imagine that any such tax revenues would ever reach those in poverty and need...that won't happen!!!

I hadn't heard of the examples listed here but I did read a story in the Tribune recently about a couple who purchased a Mom & Pop hotel on the waterfront in Clearwater in 1992. At the time, they could afford it and it was purchased with their life savings as a retirement income.

The story reported that the couple were about to loose their little motel/hotel because the taxes on waterfront property in Florida are not based on the actual structure on the land but the "potential structure" that could be built by developers! The couples tax jumped from $18,000 a year to $40,000. What a scam!

I don't know which political party put this tax into place. I don't trust any of them. If their lips are moving, they're lying!

Thanks, D. I'll be sure to do a little research myself. However, I have found Boortz to be among the more (if not most) credible of sources for information. On the other hand, he always encourages his listeners to do their own research.

RL: My IRS horror story goes back fifteen years to my divorce from wife #1. She under-reported income for several years in the late-80's. She had two SS numbers and was working one job under each number (surprisingly, she did not get caught at the time). By the time that the IRS caught it, we had been divorced.

The IRS sent the notifications to me. I told them that it was HER income and HER SS number and I offered to send them one-half of the back taxes due (I even gave them her address and phone number). They threatened to come after my assets so I paid the whole thing. This was for 1989. About nine months later, they came at me AGAIN for 1990. Guess who coughed up the cash - AGAIN? Hint: Not my ex.

FF- Unfortunately you found out something that many people don't know - if you file a joint tax return & it's later found that additional taxes are due, the IRS doesn't care whose fault it was - they consider both to be liable and will get it from whichever one they can.

Speaking from my one (and only one) audit with the I.R.S., I learned that all of my citizen's rights remained outside the door I just closed behind me. Although I could have appealed their findings, it came to me that it would only prolong the agony (and the penalties). I couldn't even cxxp on the city hall door step...wrong den of thieves.

I am your normal, middle-class, "working Joe". But I am also a capitalist and believe that nothing good comes from socialistic entitlement programs. I believe in hunting down and killing terrorists like the little rats that they are (except that that statement is denigrating to rats). I grew up in a very conservative household and was fortunate enough to have had a conservative American Government teacher (a retired US Army colonel) who helped to show me the "right" way. Are there things that I would like to change? Absolutely. But NOT the kind of "change" being espoused by Hillarock Obaminton. I have lived in Florida for forty of my forty-eight years. I've been a big Pink Floyd fan since my teen years hence the moniker, FloydFreak. My friends call me Freak, Floyd, and FF. The libs call me a neocon. I wear that badge proudly. Please note that I enjoy engaging in spirited discussion - even with those with whom I disagree. There are a number of individuals on these boards whom I respect even if I DO think that they're out of touch with reality. Please note also that I do not tolerate personal attacks on my character. If you think that I'm full of BLEEP, you have the right to say so. But drag my character into the gutter and expect retaliation in kind with FloydFreak's own brand of sarcasm. Keep it civil and we'll get along fine. To those of you that see good in America and want the OPPORTUNITY for prosperity for all - and do not just seek to soak it to "the rich", I say God bless you. And God bless America!
