Can you hear the music playing?  It's the same old song just to a different tune.  "We are going to bring Power Ball to Florida to help with our education woos".  Yeah right, tell me another one.  Whenever the politicians want to raise the gas tax, they use the excuse that the extra money is going to fix roads.  I have been paying this gas tax in Polk County for about 5 years now and still do not see any improvment on the roads.  I remember when the lottery came to Florida.  It used the education system as the selling point.  It was great for the first couple of years.  The state use to include money for education in its budget, and then the lottery money supplemented the education.  Then, someone had a brilliant idea and stop funding the education out of the budget and completely on the money being taken in from the lottery.  So, can you hear that same old song again?  This time it is getting louder.

So what exactly has changed again? I understand being miffed that education now rides solely on the back of the lottery but is it some how different now with the addition of this new game?
You have the same option now as when the lottery first came out. Play or DON'T!

I dont think the last comment made on this got it. It is not about the options of playing or not or the different games involved. I believe Gary was trying to say that they use the same ole excuse to say why they want something. The Lottery was supposed to improve education, IT DID NOT!!! Now they are saying that the addition of the powerball will generate more money for Education. Again IT WILL NOT. I dont believe he is against the lottery, just the BS they say to get their issues heard.

I opt for the "Don't Play" option. Then your money won't be used to better the lives of the HIGH paid folks who run this scam of a lottery.... They are the only ones who seem to reap the benefits! It would be wise for Fox to do an investigative report on the salary of these people. How about a break down of where these millions of dollars are going. :+(

The lottery money never got to the schools they played hide and seek with it.Money that was set aside via your property taxes for schools was simpley spent elsewhere then money from the lottery was used to replce it.So inturn you have no increase in the school budget just replacement for misused funds. This has been going on since the lottery began. If the lottery was introduced to pay for schools way do we still get taxed on it ???

Embers,

It's always been about "Play or Don't Play"!
If you notice my first sentence, I did say "So what exactly has changed again?" Nothing has changed. This is just another game. The only question I haven't heard answered is what percentage goes to OUR education system and not the other states participating? By the way, read my 2nd sentence again too.*lol*

It is the same song and dance! I did find this link, not too sure it answers everything, but the sight was interesting none the less.
