By know, nearly everyone has heard about the racy pictures of American Ido Antonella Barba. The photos show Barba in numerous sexually suggestive poses. In some, she's topless with her girlfriends, drinking while underage and flipping off the camera. Apparently, they're no big deal to American Idol producers. Rewind to A.I season 2. Contestant Frenchie Davis was kicked off the show after her topless photos surfaced on the internet in 2003. What's going on? Rosie O'donnell calls it racist. Frenchie is black. Antonella is not. But is it racism or does it have to do with the weight difference? Antonella is tall and skinny while Frenchie is tall and overweight. One guy said to me, "Gina, we don't want to see a fat chick in racy pictures. That's for the hot chicks!" Is that it? Seems unfair to me but what do you think? Gina

What about plus-sized models? They seem to be popular, and they're not exactly as thin as Barba is. I don't think the show is racist, otherwise how does Ruben Studdard and Fantasia win?

And there are plenty of guys out there who prefer their women to be bigger, and love seeing them in lingerie and making racy poses for pictures.

I think there is a legitimate difference in what happened to Frenchie and what happened to Antonella.

Frenchie posed nude for a porn website and got paid for it. What happened to Antonella was innocent. She had some sexy pictures taken of herself (none of them nude) to make a calender for her boyfriend. It was a private thing and someone got a hold of them without her knowledge or consent and leaked them to the public.

That is the difference and that is why she didn't deserve to get kicked off the show. Plus, if you've seen the photos (not the fake ones), they are nothing more than what you would find in Maxim, which is perfectly acceptable for many celebrities.

for that one guys information gina the one who said people don't want to see fat woman posing , he can put his opinon where the sun won't ever shine , woman are pretty small or large not everyone fits in cinderella's slipper , it is just plain mean to label woman beautiful only if there thin , woman come in many sizes shapes , and colors , us woman has enough stress to be thin to deal with we don't need some man's opinon telling us that we are less than nothing because we don't look the way he or others want us too ....not as thin as i would like but happy being me DEBBIE

Dear Gina,

Sorry to be a brownnoser, but I agree with jpapagan.

I like women with a little more meat on their bones.

Voluptuous women are gorgeous, which is how history represents beautiful women.

Part 1

Well first of all, look at Miss America who basically was in the same situation; posing in sexually suggestive photos, drinking while under aged and other things, but Trump excused her derogative behavior, basically stating to society that as long as you are skinny, pretty, young and more of the Caucasian ethnicity, you can pretty much get away with quite a bit.

FYI: Let’s see exactly how much time Libby does.

Okay (I’m Caucasian) and it bothers me to see that there are people that are not color blind. We all bleed, eat, sleep, and pretty much have the same bodily functions as the next person. At least, that is how I thought human beings functioned. While we are condemning other ethnicities, must I point out that over 90% of our people (males) are serial killers between the ages of 13 and 65, and out of that 90% just over 14% are our women, so what makes our ethnicity the perfect dominate race?

Okay (I’m Native American) and I get tired of others telling me that I cannot accomplish something because my people are savages who cannot assimilate into mainstream society. I have learned to overcome my obstacles because my obstacles have made me stronger and I thank those obstacles for granting me the opportunity and wisdom through my ancestors to move forward from a negative/positive perspective

Okay (I am disabled), but why do you treat me differently because I may not be able to quite accomplish the things that you can? I may not be able to do what you do, but I still have a special gift that allows me to do things that you cannot do or that you do not

Part 2,
...understand, and that is why God allowed me to stay here?

Okay (I am over-weight), and because I am over-weight does not mean that my mind is deteriorated. Does that mean that I am inhumane? Does that mean that I lack compassion, understanding and a sense of wanting to love or be loved? Does my being over-weight means that you cannot get to know the inner me for me and only the outward shell that you see? My being over-weight comes from a rare disease that I cannot control, but I am well educated and I have been on my job for more than 20 years. I own my own home, car and small business. Do I deserve to be treated negatively because I am a beautiful person inside and out? Not all skinny women are evil, but not all fat women are nice.

Okay, (I am Irish), do you dislike me because I have red hair and freckles? I gave you your first job and helped you to buy your first car and house, do you fault me because I was too nice and you are still employed with me? Did you dislike me when I made you the CEO at my Utah branch? Why do I seem so different to you when I have never done anything derogative towards you?

Okay (I am an African American Catholic); Did God and the Saints banish me from the heavens for believing in them? Is it because my skin was too dark and because many of my human counterparts compare me and my Native American sisters and brothers and being incompetent savages that cannot sustain life’s necessities? Or is it because I can never get ahead in life and I will only walk in the shadows of my white counterparts?

Part 3,

Okay, I am a human being that loves everyone regardless of their imperfections. I have compassion, feelings, love, understanding and a sense of wanting to belong not because of a lack of your differences and understanding but because I am one of God’s children and he sees no imperfections among us. In his eyes we are all the same with our fault. There is no such thing as a big sin or a little sin it is all the same in the end.

If we all thought like that we would be living in a dream world. Ignorance, stereotypes, a lack of understanding and compassion as well as some forms of jealousy are the real issues.

Human kind can be produced and a child will become a product of the human race, regardless to differences. If societies were color blind and could look beyond another’s differences and see that we are a bunch of people that are trying to make it, then we would probably be a better world. In reality it is all about control, people want to control other people. Democracy can only work if people let it work and it could be that racism is a form control. Now back to Frenchie and Antonella.

If Frenchie was a Vanessa Williams would she had been kicked off of American Idol? Frenchie was doing it to make money, Antonella was not, but regardless to why they did it why hasn’t Antonella been penalized.

We as human beings are stereotypical entities that have a long ways to go in order to overcome different forms of racism and discrimination.

What is acceptable to the minority may not be acceptable to the majority and vice versa.

I feel that this issue

Part 4,
...issue concerning Frenchie and Antonella may be a little controversial. It is a form of discrimination as well as racism. Frenchie was on 20/20 where they showed her lying in rose petal and all you can see are her thighs and the out lines of her breast. (Reminds you of the Janet Jackson ½ time situation? What happened to Timberlake to the rescue)?

I truly believe that American Idol did not want to make the same mistake twice, because they do not want to always bring up the issue of race. But to me this is like comparing apples to oranges. Pictures are pictures and they can fall into the wrong hands at anytime regardless of race. If a person is jealous of one’s success they will do anything to hurt and destroy you.

As far as I am concerned, American Idol needs to nip this in the bud and basically state that any nude or controversial photos such as the one’s that have been displayed for whatever reasons then they will be disqualified from the show. Maybe this will make our future GIRLS stop and think about their actions and the consequences behind their actions.

Most Black women are classified as being loosed women. Tyra had a show based upon this issue. Remember the black woman that was looked at as a prostitute. And the over-weight woman that was viewed as a librarian and so forth?

God rests her soul and no disrespect but look at a certain ex playboy playmate with no education and washed up. How many Black playboy playmates are out there? How many Latina or Asian playboy playmates that are out there, and those who are, how many are receiving s

Part 5,
...such support for comebacks?

Many Latin and Black men are portrayed as a thieves, drug dealers, or gangsters and if you have anything you are into some type of sports. What do you think minority women are portrayed as??????????????

Is it racism or does it have to do with the weight difference? The issue is that it has to do with a little bit of both. !" It is unfair to most of us that have an open widow of perception but what can we do unless we work as a whole?

In addition, I would like to add...

ddain, Fantasia was not over-weight she is the typical thick/healthy Black woman, and Ruben was a guy, besides I like bigger guys myself I want something to hold on too not skin and bones (SMILE)...

jpapajan, didn't Frenchie have to support a college education or some children? I do not remember. And how many other females from different environments have been caught in the same senario as Frenchie? Innocence in this case is like being a little pregnant. We only know certain aspects of this issue not the whole, remember how the media puts emphasizes on issues?

memoryjoe, I agree with you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder regardless of differences. Beauty is skin deep.

For the guys "What looks good to you may not be good for you." Cute can be a curse...

I didn't mention Fantasia because she was over-weight, it's because she's black, which kills the notion that "Amerian Idol" is racist.

And as for what jpapagan wrote, there are plenty of other ways to earn money besides posing nude. How about getting a real job?

ddain,

REALITY CHECK…DON’T TAKE IT PERSONAL…
I understand what you are saying concerning Fantasia, I brought her up because of the comparison with weight not ethnicity, so do not take it personally please!!!!!!!!!!!

And as far as poising nude, you are correct with your analogy, but look at this…

EX: Your house is going into foreclosure because you are 2 months behind and there was a discrepancy in the paper work which is not your fault. You have 30 days to come up with $10,000; you do not have family or friends that you can borrow that type of money from. Your credit is not the best and you got behind because your job laid you off and the temporary agencies only give you 20 hours of work a week and unemployment does not really help to cover the mortgage. In addition you are trying to get the house put on the market but you will have to take a loss of approximately $190,000. At the moment you do not care just as long as you can get it sold, not realizing that you will still have that portion to contend with (meaning that you are still responsible from the lenders perspective) plus attorney fees, legal fees, and other fees. At the same time you have either sold or pawned the majority of your assets and you have four children to take care of between the ages of 5 and 12, and they still have to be fed, utilities have to be paid and because you sold your car you now have to catch the bus. In addition you are in court fighting your spouse for child support and the next court date is in 6 months, nor has your alimony taken affect (men have these issues also, so be open

Part 2, Gina why does this always do this to me right when I am getting into the mode?

minded). You need quick money fast, the jobs (even at McDonalds’) are not coming in quick enough, and you are NOT going to do anything ILLEGAL to obtain this money.

Are you willing to sleep in your car and stay in shelters with your 4 children?
Are you willing to go to Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army and other soup kitchens in order to feed your children or will you let your pride get in the way?

You are a male or female that is offered to make quick money or do something that you really do not want to do, but now you are a victim of circumstance, so what will you do other than pray?

Food for thought just give me your opinion and constructive criticism.

I'm not taking anything personally. But I think those problems that you're speaking about are a very rare example. I mean, what you're talking about is financial Armageddon and if you're keeping an eye on things in your financial life, you really shouldn't wind up in such a situation, especially if you have a steady job.

ddain,
I am glad that you are not taking this personally because I did not want you to feel bad (SMILE)…

Now the problems that I am speaking of are not rare if you come from an environment such as I and others have come from. The synopsis that I am speaking of is a combination of a little bit of everything that I have observed or know of someone experiencing such situations and not necessarily in that order.

Charles S. Dutton did a special called “The Block” a few years back. Queen Latifah is doing a movie pertaining to such issues. “Bowling for Columbine”, “8 Mile,” “Claudine,” “Homeless to Harvard,” and “The Pursuit of Happyness” are all movies or Television specials whether fictionalized or not are based upon actual events that have actually happened to someone in the United States regardless to if you have personally experienced it or not. These are just few of many movies to speak of.

What I am talking about is not a financial Armageddon because crap happens regardless or not if you're keeping an eye on things in your financial life. Another person’s shoes are not tight on your feet. You cannot tell a person where to go if you have not been there, and you have no authority to say that a person shouldn't wind up in such a situation, especially if they (do or do not) have a steady job. Just because you are employed does not mean that everyone else is. For different reasons many people have real issues. I do not know you and I do not know if you are really a celebrity or not but use me as an example. Are you willing to give me a full time position with full be

godzgirl read my blog view my photos

Part 2,
I am glad I write this out else where first...

Are you willing to give me a full time position with full benefits regardless to what situation that I may be in? Are you willing to help another that is willing to help themselves? It is easy for someone else to tell another what could happen or what they could do when you are in a better position than they are in. How can you tell me where I am going when you have not gotten to where I have been?

The Andy Griffith Show, All in the Family and Good Times are based upon fiction, and people with steady jobs still struggle. Everyone cannot be Donald Trump or George Jefferson movin’ on up. Many people have to bust their butts to just barely make it. I like that guitar that you display in your photo, but you know what, the money that you spent on your prized guitar, I could use to feed my children or pay the rent. Many people from all walks of life do not have that privilege such as yourself and they live in the real world. I am not here to make a huge debate of the situation but I am here to tell you that you do not walk in everyone’s shoes so you cannot tell them how easy life is.
