"Oh, what a tangled web we weave when we first practice to deceive."- Sir Walter Scott

Yeah, I'm well aware of that famous, truthful quote.  I really believe in it.  But just recently

I thought, "What harm could a little white lie do?" HA!!

Here's what happened.

My colleague Tim and I had to meet someone at a certain time. Since we were running late, we thought of all kinds of excuses to explain why we would be a little late.  We knew the truth ( a yummy lunch at our favorite joint) wouldn't fly.   So, after considering all the options, we both opted for this one: "We'll tell him we got a flat tire."  "Yeah, that'll work.." We both agreed.

Well, it worked a little too well.  Five minutes later, even before we had a chance to place that "we got a flat tire-call", our car began to shake.  Tim says, "Gina, I think we really do have a flat tire."  "Oh stop it and go faster! We're late!" I responded.  Thank goodness he didn't listen.  We had a blow out.  By the time we made it over from the fast lane to the right side of the freeway, we  were nearly down to the rim.  Take a look at the pictures!

What the heck was this all about?   We hadn't even lied yet.  We were about to...but then the universe turned that proposed lie into the truth.   Weird!!!!! Perhaps it was karma.  Whatever it was, I'm staying away from lies, even those "little white lies".

ha, ha! same thing happened to my friend and i on our way to my mom's house. it's a 2 hour drive. we got a flat, the same way as you, except the flat caused the bumper to almost fall off due to the flat tire kept wacking it. so now we have to cash out for a tire, and the bumper is almost falling off. so we just taped it up. then continue our way, only for a police to pull us over, then for some odd reason it started raining. but only on us, cuz outside it was sunny. then 5 min's away from home, a tree was in the middle of the road, and we nearly struck it, then some construction workers were finishing paving the end of the road. but since they didn't do a good job on puting up anything to tell us how to get though, my friend just drove over the hot pavement, which the construction workers were pissed. cuz now they have to start over. what horrible luck all in 2 hours. i felt bad for those construction workers. but my friend reaction time is a bit slow.

to be continue....

so it sucks that you guys got a flat, but hey, feel good that you didnt have to lie after all and that it did happen. lol. i mean now it's the truth. god saved you from lying. besides if you were running late, you should come up with something like "traffic was horrible" or "when you were eating lunch you forgot your purse, so you had to drive back and get it". much more convincing then a flat. a flat your gonna need proof, and all that stuff.

Hi Gina! So happy to see you writing blogs again. Thank you!

I like your story and it happens to be very true. Nothing good ever comes out of lying. I'm glad that you guys made it ok after a blowout on the freeway, it happened once to us as well and it's kinda scary. It's a good thing my husband was driving and not me, I would've freaked! ha ha....

Hey Samo,
You're really good at coming up with "little white lies" =)
What's your best and/ or worst lie ever. AND what were the ramifications?
BTW, I just saw your tribute to Elizabeth. Very nice! We're all gonna miss her here but I hear we'll soon catch her on LA TV early in the A.M.

Hey Dasvics,
How are you? I saw one of your comments on your blog that you had to block out one or two bloggers. Were they harassing you? I hope not.

Hi Gina, yeah I don't have many fans now that I've chosen to speak a bit more respectfully and have an open mind on a particular issue. Funny huh? You'd think it'd be the other way around. I thought being fair, balanced, understanding , and expressing yourself in a respectful manner would make you more friends as opposed to when you’re sounding off in a rude and ignorant manner. Go figure! ??

:-)

Better to just play it straight. If you took time for lunch, just tell them you overstayed lunch and that's it. If they got pissed well then the heck with em. As far as myself, I am usually prompt. I take extra time to get ready when I have to be somewhere, including calculating the worst traffic conditions. Most of the time I am usually well ahead of time which gives me some free time to unwind from the traffic getting there and even brainstorm new story ideas as I am constantly writing story plots...Like I said if they make a big stink then so what, nobody's perfect. I suspect many folks will just say "what took ya" say "we had a bit of a spat finishing up our last endeavor" (that being lunch) don't mention it...! And many folks will just have shrugged it off. If they ask what the last endeavor was tell them the truth, shrug your shoulders and it's no big deal. It happens and anyone half way decent should understand it. If they don't, then they can go take a big hike, exit stage left!

Gina...Were is Elizabeth?

Actually, Gina reminds me a lot of Elizabeth, funny as that sounds. But from what I have seen, Gina is much more seasoned not only in the field, but as an anchor and even as a co-host on shows, so if FOX positions her career properly, they have a very grand diamond and the diamond isn't even in the rough anymore, rather it is polished.

Hi craftguy, I think you're right. Karma will always get you!

Bella,
I'm hearing Elizabeth will be working at Ch. 5 in the mornings. Perhaps at the beginning of next month.

Sebar,
Thank you for the kind words.... you're very sweet.
Elizabeth is a great live shot reporter. She's always upbeat and so funny. She has the gift of gab. I'm sometimes a little short in that department. BUT I'm working on that. :-)

Miss Gina, you are just fine. The old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." In this case Gina isn't the broken one, it's the rest of the world that has gone to nuts as far as I am concerned. I honestly believe you have an excellent balance of both field and anchoring skills and am glad to see your career going in this direction. I hope that in the future you get a show and are able to get boosted ratings from it. I understand the ratings biz and how it makes and breaks things, and how a career can change on a notion. But you definitely are a diamond and FOX is lucky to have gotten you. As far as the issues go, it simply is this. Always follow your gut instinct and stick to what's right over what's wrong and you will never have to look over your shoulder. It's simple and it works well!

the worst lie.... was not my worst because i didnt get away with it, it was just a really messed up joke. that's why it was the worst. my dad called up for some reason. anyways, i started to pretend that i was crying, and telling him that my sister was in a horrible car accident, and her face is all busted up. and that she was crippled. he got all worried, and then i started busting up laughing because he fell for it. he didn't get mad, but he felt good that it wasn't true. lol. still makes me laugh. i know, i know it's really messed up.

best lie... it happened during drama class in high school. we were suppost to write up a script, and then perform it on stage. well i didnt write up anything. so at the moment i was on stage i came up with anything i could of. i think i came up with a story about some 4 year old kid who found a bag of coke, and some stranger tricked him into thinking it was a new candy that you breath it in. the little kid ends up o.d.ing and dies. i got a A for my performance. yeah!

as for me getting caught in a lie... my sister is the only one that can catch me if i'm lying cuz i can never hold a straight face. but mostly when i lie, it's always a joke, and then i tell them the truth. like i'll say something like "hey joann, did you hear britney ran over her x-boyfriend because he ate her last taco?" then she would say "no she didn't", then i'll be like "yeah for real, just check the news. it just happened right now". then she would check, then see it's not true, then whack me upside the head for tricking her. but she's hard to trick. my dad, he's a sucker for them.

so as for other best lies.... i hate calling girlfriends sometimes. so i always tell them i was busy doing laundry, had to pick up my niece, sister was hogging the phone, or my favoirite, "i was so tired from work that i just fell asleep after i had dinner". always work, and i never get in trouble. unless they read this. lol. i just hate gabbing on the phone, and hate feeling pressured to do it.

as for liz. well thanks for checking it out. yeah i have missed seeing her on tv. but i'm glad she's wont be far on ch.5. only problem is that now i have to switch back and forth to see her. besides that. watching ch.5 news is gonna make me feel odd. like i'm back stabbing ch. 11. but then lizzy is worth it. but it's just gonna kill me inside to watch ch.5. cuz i'm a loyal fox watcher. i felt the same way when lisa joyner left fox.

On any given night or morning, you might catch me doing everything from consumer/investigative reporting, anchoring, entertainment, weather, even sports (not my favorite). On the weekends, I can also be found washing the news trucks. :-) O.K. that's not true, but that's probably my next assignment! If you have any story ideas or would like me to look into a situation you feel may be unjust, please let me know by commenting on my blog! Don't forget to tune into the Sunday Morning News at 7am with Robb Weller and yours truly.
