Much Too Young To Feel This Damn Old!

“All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole.  I’m much too young to feel this damn old….”  As I listened to Garth Brooks on my way home from work, it hit me.  My young, wild and crazy days are over.  (I’m not sure I really had any crazy ones to begin with)

I guess the first sign was back when a store clerk asked, “Would you like plastic or paper Ma’am?”   “Ma’ am??”  “Who you calling Ma’am?!” I thought.  Oh, I had all kinds of responses racing through my head but in the end, all I could tell that clerk was: “Paper please. Thank you.”

Yeah, that’s when it all began.  Now, there are lots of signs that I’m “maturing”.  Like my choice in shoes.  I almost always pick flat comfortable “grandma” shoes over sexy, painful heels.  Unless I’m working, I skip makeup—really it’s not good for the skin.  And, I certainly have no desire to go out drinking and clubbing.  See what I mean?  Thanks Garth Brooks for reminding me that I'm getting old!

I wonder….who deals better with getting older? Men or women? I'm not sure.  I have a girlfriend who just got a boob job and is now considering get a mini facelift.  Ouch! I have a long time male friend who suddenly I see shamelessly chasing after young college hotties.  Does that make him feel younger?  I guess we all deal differently with this issue.

How am I gonna deal with this?  Easy.....

NO MORE COUNTRY MUSIC!  Goodbye Garth.

ha ha....that was funny. Gina you are too beautiful…so no need to worry. I bet that even when you are old, (cause you're still very young) you'll still be hot. Many women look fabulous well into their fifties...you got nothing to worry about. But I can totally relate to the strange feeling of being called "ma'am"...I did say something though, not the first time, but after like three different people said it to me. I was like, "huh? why are you calling me ma'am? Do I look that old?" They guy was sooo sweet, he said that the store had trained them to ask customers questions in that manner, even if the customer was their own age. Then he asked for my id...ha ha...too cute :-)

your not old gina, you just like to take it easy. why wear shoes that are gonna hurt? why put on make up when your not going out? as for the clubbing and drinking, well it's not your thing. so it's all good.

i think men age better then women do. women do all they can to prevent the law of gravity, while men just accept it. but i think in our souls, men will be forever young, because we don't change the way we think, unlike women. as women get older, so do their likes and dislikes. they think about comfort, and praticality, while men are just the same. stubborn and they won't learn new tricks.

i think that's why it's hard for couples to stay together, and why older men look for younger women. younger women just have more incommon with older men because they are active, and still want to party and go to sporting events, while their x-wife might find all of that boring, and rather just chill at home, or do something more adult like. that's what i think, i could be wrong.

HUH????? uh...I dunno what women you hang with Samo, but let me just say that not all women are like that. I like the same things I've always liked (just more now) and some new ones to. I dont know about you guys, but I dont want to grow up. ever.

Hi guys thanks for responding.

Beep beep...I know Suzanne Sommers but what the heck is Secretagogue Gold??? Do you use it??

Hey Dasvics,
At least your store clerk had a good/funny attitude. You're totally right about women looking good at any age. But aside of the looks, how do you think you've changed as you've gotten older? Are you the same person you were in high school? Have your beliefs / likes and dislikes changed?

Re: the Ma'am issue....I think a lot of women have the same weird reaction the first time they hear it. Although, I do remember one time when I totally loved being called Ma'am. I was at a country bar in Arizona when this REALLY handsome guy wearing a black stetson hat came up and asked, "Would you like to dance Ma'am?" ---Oh, I totally fell for him. Only to find out that he had A LOT of Ma'ams in his life!
Oh, well.

Samo,
I think many men have a very difficult time with aging too. You know, the so called "middle life crisis" is usually attributed to men. In fact, my one male friends out chasing young skirts, admits he's having a tough time with the changes in his life. (He's gained a little weight and it looks like he's starting to lose his hair) He says whenever he "scores" with some one a lot younger, it proves "he's still got it."

huh? Even Christine? No way. You two are gorgeous! I don’t know what’s going on when absolutely beautiful women feel insecure. I’m sorry but I don’t see a single thing wrong with either of you. Do you girls realize how many women WISH they could look like you? Neither of you have a weight problem, (major plus, mainly for health reasons) You're both classy, intelligent, interesting, pretty.....uh, I just don’t get it. I always thought women like you where completely happy and satisfied with themselves. I guess Oprah and others are right when they say that we've created an unrealistic image of beauty for ourselves. Are we supposed to look like the twiggy model in the magazine? I hope not. First of all, they're wayyyyyy to skinny, I like curves and meat on a woman, if she’s too skinny, I cant look at her. I want to feed her a burger, and the bone thing really bugs me, I don’t like to see a woman’s bones sticking out. eeeewww. Second, how many hours of make-up or plastic surgery do they go through? And....after all that, they still get "brushed off" to "enhance" them!!!! ha ha...please. Its all an illusion. The part that sucks is that men LOVE the illusion. I don’t think they care if the poor girl starves herself, or cuts herself to look better, (not that there’s anything wrong with that)...or that she spends half her day on her clothes and make-up...men just love it. Then again it depends on the man. My husband hates make-up and skinny women. He likes everything natural and he likes to see meat on their bones, Im sooo lucky. Maybe that’s what makes the difference, if you’re wi

...if you’re with a man that adores you the way you are, you don’t care AS MUCH about all that other stuff. Then again, I still do, Id get plastic surgery in a second, if I had a guarantee that nothing -and I mean nothing- would go wrong.

I like how you fell for that guy Gina…that’s so cute. What I cant believe is that the guy wasn’t smart enough to drop all his other ma’mas in a second for you! What a loser!
My likes and dislikes are still the same. I’ve always loved chocolate, now I love it even more. I’ve always wanted to travel, now I want to travel more than ever. I’ve always enjoyed a good book or movie, but now I really appreciate them and I really get into them, like Ill read up on the story to learn more about it. For example Blood Diamond the movie, I loved it and I actually appreciated the story behind it so much, that when I got home I went online and read all I could on the matter. I don’t know, maybe I don’t understand what you mean by having different tastes as you get older. When I was younger I went to clubs, and I’d still go, but now I just don’t have the time. Maybe its that our priorities change, not our tastes.

Oh heck, you two ladies are all kids still. I suppose you don't listen to music from the 50's and 60's either. I suppose I am ancient then!!!

Dasvics,
I think you said it best---as we get older our priorities change... not necessarily our tastes. I also agree that our society has created an unrealistic image of what beauty should be. But that's usually a struggle for young women in high school and college age. At some point, you grow out of that and learn to love and accept who you are.

I'm not complaining about my looks or anything like that. I'm pretty sure Christine isn't either. I'm just making the realization that yes, I'm starting to "change". I see it in the everyday choices I make. Honestly, what bothers me about getting older isn't what I see in the mirror. It's the fact that we all have to see the people we grew up loving and admiring suddenly pass away. It's painful and a reminder of our own mortality. It makes me reevaluate my world. Am I treating my family and friends with the love and respect they deserve? Because if tomorrow never comes, (another Garth Brooks song) I want to make sure there's nothing to regret. Know what I mean?

Sebar,
What are you talking about? I love all kinds of music including 50's and 60's. In fact, I have a lot of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Lou Rawls, Bobby Darin in my Ipod. They are from the 50/60's right? :-)

And, I'm sure you're not ancient.

oooh...I totally misunderstood you Gina, sorry. Gosh I do that a lot...maybe I have add or something. I dunno. OK, yeah I totally get what youre saying, and whew! Im so glad its not what I thought, cause the day someone like you is worried about their looks, well heck the rest of us might as well give up...ha ha jk

But seriously, I know what you mean. I find myself thinking the same things Gina. Am I a good person? Do I treat people with kindness and respect?
And, its strange how people I've known my whole life are dying. Its a bit scary. Its exactly what you've said, "It's painful and a reminder of our own mortality." I think its a good thing that we think about that, it means we’re aware of our reality and care enough to be thoughtful of others before its too late. Yeah, I agree with you now that I get it, we do change as we get older, cause when I was younger- I NEVER thought about things like these. true that Gina.

And I agree, Sebars not ancient, like all men...he's aged to perfection.

My sweet Dasvics, I am far from perfection, and by the way there are others calling me kiddo so I still feel young at heart. Damned, I still wear my cowboy hats and boots and listen to 60's music while driving an American made white Lincoln Town Car, how old is that? You though I would be driving a new orange made in Australia Pontiac GTO and listening to Rap Crap, not a chance. I embrace what is real America and live it like a real American and proudly. Age will never strike me down my friend Dasvics!!!

Secretagogue gold is an age management system type supplement. It comes in packets. You drink it before bedtime. You'll sleep better, have more energy the next day, and going #2 will be like a religious experience.

It juices up all of you organs. Liver, Kidneys, skin, brain. Makes everything work better.

I've been taking this stuff for over a year now and I feel great. Good luck Gina.

You chicks sound like you haven't discovered true love from the opposite sex yet. The superficial stuff you girls are talking about is just that...superficial. But, then again, that's why you folks work in the media business....all show and no substance? Perception is reality? Mature women are incredibly sexy...if they're not vain...

Gina,

One great thing about maturing is this: you are more likely wiser and can care less about what others think about your decisions, when you know that it was the best decisions among several choices. As long as you keep an open mind so that you can stay balanced, enjoy the ride! And I am saying this to everyone who is reading this blog, for life is too precious to waste away worrying over aging...I am in my mid 40s, and no, I will never be perfect until I'm with my maker, God Himself. Until that time, I'm still climbing around this monkey cage we call life.

Uh DF, hang on a second. Gina, Christine and many others at FOX have been very sweet caring folks. Isn't that bit harsh lumping them in with somebody like a Jillian Reynolds type, who does Christmas without Christmas (wink) Ho-Ho-Ho!
