The thing about live television, once it's out there you can't take it back.  I've worked in several newsrooms and I've seen firsthand the kind of meltdowns people have on news sets.  It can get really ugly when something goes wrong on TV.  Some people react by yelling obscenities and insulting their coworkers. Even if it doesn't make it on live tv---someone is always rolling tape on that "little mishap" and you can bet it'll end up on the internet. NO, thank goodness I've never been abusive when I've lost my cool! My meltdowns have usually been caused by my own dumb mistakes so, I just scold myself!
But for your viewing pleasure, here's a link to a number of meltdowns by well known anchors and reporters.

Hi Pauly,
Are you thinking a wardrobe malfunction a-la Janet Jackson style? Yeah, that definitely would be a talker...although I doubt there are any such cases in news. But you never know!

hi gina, i learned in an anger management class to constantly think about what i am feeling. if i have a rush of adrenaline and feel that i am about to verbally abuse i must remember to stop, and take a time out. remove myself from the agitator. as an example of how i feel right now, i feel happy, extraverted, and alert. later today i might feel scared, insignificant, and defeated. but when that surge of adrenaline is felt, i need to take a time out. you are pleasant on TV. some people with a lot of moodiness and anger can benefit from medications which affect chemicals in the brain. jillian said she used to take zoloft which helps to increase the level of serotonin between brain cells. other meds have the same affect. there are also meds to increase the level of dopamine. if i ever see you enraged and verbally abusive, i will blog about your choice of behavior!

Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN

Are we "SLOW LEARNERS" or what?

Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

I'd like to know if Gina has ever lost it on the air, or said a few things that she later regretted.

ddain,
Way too many embarrassing on-air screw ups to mention.

Regarding things I've said and later regretted, here's one of many:
A few years ago, I was in sky fox when Tony M. called me a "BAD, BAD girl who needs to be punished." He was referring to me being grounded because of fog. I instantly, responded with "So, are you gonna SPANK ME??" Well, as you might imagine...It immediately turned sexual. Jillian is really good at that. :-) It seemed funny at the time, until I got an angry email from a teacher at my kids school. I instantly regretted it and realized that to be a morning personality you really do need to have thick skin and not have a care about what people think of you. Steve would always give me that advice. I think I'm much better suited for plain old news. Don't you think?

Oh I don't know about that. I think that reply means you're a perfect fit for the morning show here. Heck, I'm surprised you're not on it more often.

That's the great thing about blogs here Gina...you never know what you're going to reveal about yourself...

i remember seeing that, it was funny. hell what one teacher said. they don't like it, change the channel, and i know other's have said way worse.

i don't think i ever saw anyone ever lose their cool on tv, other then jillian. it's odd how one slip up can change everyone view about that person forever. as for wardrobe malfuntions. i see it often with anchors wearing the wrong outfit infront of the green screen. always fun to see that. just looks like a floating head, or at times like if they are naked. too funny.

Amnesty Amendments May Surface in Senate TODAY
Call Your Senators Now!!!
There is no time to waste! Senate staffers have informed FAIR that the Iraq War Supplemental Bill is today becoming the vehicle for all sorts of disastrous immigration amendments. This bill is being marked up in the Appropriations Committee this afternoon and may be on the Senate floor any time.

In particular, the Senate Appropriations Committee has just adopted an AgJobs amendment offered by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). AgJobs, as you may remember, grants amnesty to millions of illegal alien agricultural workers in the U.S. and makes it easier for agribusiness to import more foreign guest workers. FAIR is working at this very moment to learn the details of this amendment.

Gina, what was the point in the angry email from the teacher from your kid's school? i don't see why your asking if Tony was going to spank you was inappropriate. Did the teacher imply something about criminal assault (an unlawful threat or attempt to do bodily injury to another)?

Gina, you are wonderful on sunday mornings. i like to hear sarcasm from a TV anchor. do you have any sarcastic ideas during the hour that you hold inside because you are not confident that your audience would be entertained and appreciative of your wit?

Yeah ddain, but blogs give you a false sense of freedom. Revealing a little too much can be dangerous. Did you hear about the reporter (not sure what market) who wrote a blog that apparently got him in a lot of trouble and he lost his job? We're told to blog away about ANYTHING, yet as a news person it can come back to haunt you. I hear that's why several reporters in our own newsroom won't blog.

Sebar...thank you.

Samo and Marv, the teacher was angry because she felt we were setting a "bad example" for the kids. I guess I cared because my son had to deal with her.

Craftguy...what's the deal with CSI? Why aren't you allowed there anymore? Were you a consultant?

Paul D...thank you for the nice Sunday morning news comment. And yes...I often hold back. I think Ch. 13 news is the only place where I kind of feel free to say just about anything. Once, while I was filling in for the weekend news on fox I was being a little too chatty and perhaps sarcastic as you say. Suddenly, I heard the producer in my ear: "Gina tone it down this is a serious news show."
Geez, I wasn't even drinking that night! :-) jk

Well Gina,

I'll stick up for ya. I'll tell that "angry teacher", that as a parent I'd tell that teacher to lighten up a little bit. There's nothing wrong with you needing a little spankin' every now and then. As a matter of fact, I'll tell her you kinda like it! Your cool with us...

Naw Gina, the reason the others don't like blogging is because of people like ME out here! But you don't mind me on your blog....do ya?

Actually don't worry Crafty. You encountered a Tinselturd, and there are enough of them. In fact a few very big ones have been after my butt in the industry so don't worry. They will at one time or another produce crap and get canned faster then Charlie Tuna at South Bay canneries.

Hey Gina, don't worry. I gave Ray Bradbury a bit of a had time and he laughed. In fact at the writers club I am often harassing guest speakers when they say very stupid things, like you must have an agent to get published. I guess they skipped the internet and global distribution and no overhead to self produce work. I mean don't worry we all have our moments, so get out, kick deriers and have fun doing it!

On any given night or morning, you might catch me doing everything from consumer/investigative reporting, anchoring, entertainment, weather, even sports (not my favorite). On the weekends, I can also be found washing the news trucks. :-) O.K. that's not true, but that's probably my next assignment! If you have any story ideas or would like me to look into a situation you feel may be unjust, please let me know by commenting on my blog! Don't forget to tune into the Sunday Morning News at 7am with Robb Weller and yours truly.
