In the news business we deal with the 5 Ws -- Who? What? When? Where? Why? There is also the "How?" But, its the WHY that's the most difficult of the word-questions.

"Why?" -- That's what people were asking when I walked into the newsroom just hours after the Winnetka shooting in which a suspect killed the first SWAT officer in LAPD history. Why? A shooting that happened after the suspect called police to say he killed several relatives. Why?

It may take some time to get the answers. Sometimes that's because investigators have so much to piece together in any "officer-involved" shooting.

What is clear is that its an awful day when something awful like this happens. Awful for the friends and family of Officer Randy Simmons who leaves behind a wife and two children. Awful for the friends and family of Officer James Veenstra who was seriously wounded in the shootout. And an awful for the city of Los Angeles when it loses one of its finest.

Its a sad day.

It's VERY sad, but just another statistic in the neverending flood of children born to illegal aliens who then become gang members and terrorize America.

You'll probably be seeing a lot more of these incidents when Hillary or McCain becomes our next open borders president.

My heart goes out to the families of the wounded and deceased who would not be mourning today had our border been secured and our sovereignty protected by a government that refuses to listen to the will of the people.

Hal,

As I said to Gigi, This has to be one of your hardest assignments to cover, probably next to the the Jeff Webrick story you covered years ago for KCOP 13.

'Land, I think this kind of problem lies with the removal of God from the public schools; if you remove any kind of ethical teaching in the cirriculum, you'll get more lawlessness by the time kids become teenagers and adults, since they have no fear or respect of authority. This guy had a mental problem, and no respect for his elders...ethics and respect...the key missing ingredients...and the fear of God to top it off, the biggest thing missing.

This criminal gang thug came from a culture that worships violence. Another example of the south moving north and destroying our country from within. Osama bin Laden could never dream of doing as much damage to American as Bush's open border system and now that we have a one party government it's guaranteed to get worst after the November election.

Hal, you should feel glad. Sad for the killed officer, and oh by the way I hold a prayer for them both. L.A.'s finest deserve every ounce of the people's respect for putting it on the line every day. As for this Mayor, the sooner he's gone and half the L.A. City scumbags, the better we will be. Remember that you may be paying a tax on your DSL to the city of L.A. just for visiting MyFoxLA. Thank you Mayor for deceiving the stupid public here in L.A. and picking more people's pockets. As for the shooter who really cares a rats behind. I rather care about the kids from those officers, I wouldn't give a "spitshine for a nickel" (Go ahead Tony Valdez breath easier now) what happens to that shooter.
