I KNOW that it’s popular to HATE Big Business in this country and the drive to "Get BACK at Them" is becoming stronger and more popular every day..

There is NO stronger an instinct in Human Nature then the INSTINCT to blame ALL our problems on somebody else.. To CREATE a Boogyman and GO after him.. These days it’s ANYTHING having to do with ANY Big Business.. It assuages our sense of ENVY,, our INSISTANCE to surrendering to our Jealosies and gives us a MEANS to vent our Frustrations..

It serves our NEED to NOT take responsibility for our OWN actions,, it’s Guarenteed to garner the support from others of the SAME mentality.. It satisfies our sense of Rightgeous Indignation and LET’S face it,, It’s just PLAIN downright FUN to DO…It FEELS soooo good pointing fingers and getting "it" off our chest.. AND,, and THIS is the BEST part,, It COST nothing to DO it…

But,, DOES it REALLY cost nothing??

I have ALWAYS been of the opinion that the longer the focus of a problem remains set in the wrong direction,, the LONGER that problem remains and that THAT is the most expensive position to be in..

The OIL companies and the politicians have NOTHING to do with the Auto Companies’ continued manufacture of what has been descibed as "Gas Guzzlers"…

I remember when The Japanese came to THIS country with small fuel efficient cars and trucks.. WE wanted NO part of it..WE rejected them out of hand UNTIL there was a supposed Gas crises..THEN we couldn’t get ENOUGH of them…There were YEARS where the Big Three lost millions to the Japanese because THEY refused to change and SO they eventually saw the handwriting on the wall and jumped into the fuel efficient market… The American Companies acually SOLD these Japanese vehicles under THEIR own name..Little Mini-Trucks and cars with Chevy,, Ford and Chrysler plastered all over them and they were reletively successful for a period of time…Buuuut,, THEN guess what happened.. The GAS crunch ended and we ,, ONCE again,, tossed ALL semblence of CARING anything for fuel efficientcy to the curb like a Christmas Tree in February and the AMERICAN People FORCED those Companies to RESUME the manufacture of BIG trucks and Big Cars..

The AMERICAN people,, ONCE again,,Demanded and BOUGHT the SUVs and the Big Cars and Trucks..IF they hadn’t both DEMANDED and Purchased these things,, the Companies wouldn’t be MAKING them.. MANY Americans bought them out of a REFUSAL to buy the Smaller cars and trucks which THEY saw as INFERIOR in most respects,, particularly in the issue of SAFETY and MORE particularly where their families were concerned.. The fact of the matter IS,, EVEN the Japanese, Korean and other foreign companies are manufactring FULL sized Vehicles SOLELY based on,, and in order to SATISFY,, the American DEMAND for them..

The American People DEMANDED these "Gas Guzzlers",, NOT the Oil Companies and NOT the Politicians..And YOU can BET that IF the Gas Crises were to END tomorrow,, the American People would DEMAND them AGAIN..MANY are the things that CAN be blamed on Politics and Corporate Greed but THIS is NOT one of them..

That which is TRUE for the Individual can OFTEN be JUST as TRUE for a Society or a people as a whole..

Be CAREFUL what you WISH for,, you JUST might GET it….

And when you DO,, DON'T blame ANYONE but yourself...

“There is NO stronger an instinct in Human Nature then the INSTINCT to blame ALL our problems on somebody else.. “

When I first LOOKED at this statement it occurred to ME that there would be a LOT of room for discussion and debate based SOLELY on this ONE point..

Awww C’mon..The STRONGEST instinct??

Well,, think about it.. Humans have been attempting to explain,, and therefore SOLVE,, their problems since they FIRST stood on TWO legs.. The VERY act of standing on two legs was the direct result of this.. In the cases where the explanations and the solutions are beyond the kin of men,, THEY have MANUFACTURED both..

ONE can EVEN say that the original Pagan GODS were created as a result of a FAILURE to either explain away and/or to SOLVE their problems..

Hawkeye, I believe the strongest instinct to be self preservation. These Senate hearings are lead by political incompetents looking for a scape-goat or someone to throw under the train. The only reason for them is to protect the public image of the inquisitors ( Senators ) and satisfy the thirst for revenge of the blind, the ignorant, and the dishonest. Good post !

MAYBE I should have said,,
"ONE of the Strongest",, LMAO..

I KNEW that this would be a bone to pick for SOMEONE..LMAO.. GLAD it was YOU,,Meb..LOL..

They ARE quick to point out the Profits of the OIL companies without so much as a MENTION that HALF of that goes to the Government in taxes,,Aren't they??

Whether it's a Group or an Individual the Ole adage works just as well..

Beware the person ALWAYS pointing fingers for as sure as can be THEY have SOMTHING to Hide..OFTEN ,, it's related to their accusation of others which brings to mind ANOTHER saying of Old,,

Jufge NOT lest YE be JUDGED..

I'm sure the corporate headsmen are aware of one simple rule. It's awfull hard to set someone up when they expect it ! LOL I believe it is the strongest instinct in a politician or the left to lay the blame elsewhere's. Wasn't reall picking at a bone, just defending those that have do have good moral character. LOL

OH I know,,Meb..I was just kidding..Reallt though,,If the statement wren't so OBVIOUSLY open to debate I would NEVER have acknowledge it in my First comment..

And DON'T you think that the "Class Envy" and Business hatred fostered by the Left is JUST a matter of giving the People the Boogymen that they need,, and I must say,, DEMAND??

Shouting OFF with their heads just seems to lose a bit of it's IMPACT if you DON'T have a Head to OFF....LMAO..

Just a thought..

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind of that Hawk and it is as disturbing as it is disgusting ! I figured you were a good guy and we could have a little fun. The let's throw them under a train or find a scape-goat crowd is comprised of a worthless, spineless, characterless lot.

Don't worry..I do it ALL the time..In Fact..MOST people think that as far as MY comments are concerned,,ONCE is FAR too many..LMAO..
If I were to come up with a SINGLE reason for being Conservative as opposed to being Liberal I would say that as a Conservative,, I believe in the ASPIRATION towards perfection and as LONG as I am trying,, I find SUCCESS in the Failure to achieve the IMPOSSIBILITY of perfection..

I see the left as pandering to and being guilty OF,,the exploitation OF the LOWEST Common Denominator..

And they are still building and selling recreational vehicles..I wonder how many boats, yachts, RVs took to the roads and water this weekend to kick off the summer? People can't see that the freedom we have in this country is to choose between using up great supplies of oil when the supply is not coming in like it used to and paying the high prices or staying home and off the water and sacrificing pleasure for a more economical ride to work and essential motoring.

Everybody keeps referring to the rationing of the 70's. I remember getting fuel by the number of your tag on certain days..I don't remember rationing. It didn't last very long though..it was pretty much useless because no one policed the pumps and what cop needs to be sitting at a gas station.

We've BOTH seen cooler heads trying to point out the differences between necessities and luxuries,, Loo,, AND the responses that such a novel Idea seems to elicit..
TRY to point out that the American poor live better then 85% of the world's population and you'll get a similiar response..

For those who've gotten too used to Steak and Lobster,, EVEN a thick juicy Hamburger seems an unfair hardship..

If you believe in the Constitution (I have my doubts about some folks in these parts), you accept the premise that "all men are created equal..." Wealth should be equal also if that's the case.

As a country, the government began regulation business and commerce soon after our inception.

The "New Deal" fostered the idea that the Nation owes a certain "helping hand" to those unable or unwilling to help themselves.

The corporate/government complex has grown so huge and heartless that it is time to take the next step.

If the robber baron oil companies (the hand maidens of Dick and Dumb), continue to gouge us to enrich their fat cat shareholders, we should NATIONALIZE the buggers.

Take it over and run them as a government enterprise.
I'm sure the energy department can do abetter job that the "seal killers" at evil Exxon.

It's about time that wealth in this country was distributed more equally.

I happen to need my SUV, Hawk. I have a big family and we all won't fit in a little bitty sewing machine of a car.

“If you believe in the Constitution (I have my doubts about some folks in these parts), you accept the premise that "all men are created equal..." Wealth should be equal also if that's the case.”

Listen up Comrade,, as FAR as the REAL American Constitution is concerned,,WE no longer have ANY doubts about you.. YOU make it up as YOU go along..

“All men are created Equal” has NOTHING to DO with “wealth should be equal also ” unless you’re a SOCIALIST..

There’s NOTHING in the Constitution that grants ANYBODY a measure of Wealth..

Don’t be shocked,, you want to SOUND like a Socialist you’ll be IDENTIFIED as a Socialist.. And I go ONE step further by saying that IF you BELIEVE all of that GARBAGE you’ve polluted MY post with,, you can’t POSSIBLY believe in the American Constitution..

You have the right to LIFE,, LIBERTY and the persuit of HAPPINESS..The PERSUIT of Happiness,, NOT the acquisition OF Happiness.. YOU don’t EVEN have the RIGHT to BE Happy..You DON’T have a right to Oil andYou DON’T have a RIGHT to Low Gas Prices..And CERTAINLY,,You DON’T have a RIGHT to BE wealthy..

Now,, as for the REST of your Communist’s Manifesto about the redistribution of wealth and the like,, I LEAVE that to speak for itself..

Oh,,and on a SIDE comment about,,

“I happen to need my SUV, Hawk. I have a big family and we all won't fit in a little bitty sewing machine of a car”

REALLY!! WHAT makes YOUR right to OWN an SUV more Sacrosanct then OTHER’S right to OWN an OIL Company??Because it’s YOU???

YOU Libs. Are GREAT at demanding that everybody ELSE give up THEIR

Well, the biggest factor in the skyrocketing price of gas is the historic ascent of crude oil, which has surged from $45 per barrel in 2004 to more than $135 this past week.
There are other factors too, but that is the biggie. So what determines the price.
Crude oil 72.7%
Taxes 11.5%
Refining 10%
Distribution 5.8%

While everyone would like to blame big oil, and even Bush, the truth is that oil companies only make 10 - 13 cents per gallon, and much of that profit is invested in finding new sources of crude.

Compare that 10 cents per gallon profit to the taxes on it, (53 cents per gallon in Florida) and you can see who the real thieves are.

There is no reason for $135 a barrel crude, and OPEC is raping us bigtime.

JUST for the record, ya Mangy cur,, it's a GOOD thing that I KNOW you..That I KNOW that you don't ALWAYS mean what you say or say what you mean or I'd think that YOU slippd right on over to the "Darkside"...LMAO..

DF.
They've been saying ALL week that Big Oil turns over 40% of the Profits you hear quoted all the time to the Government in taxes..

They've ALSO been reporting polls that show that the American People are SMART enough to REALIZE that Big Oil is PAYING that $135 a barrel,, NOT charging it..

MOST Americans blame the American Government and FOREIGN Oil Suppliers for this crises,,NOT the American Oil Companies..

So 4 cents of the 10 cents big oil makes in profit goes to the government.

And the government taxes the gas further at the pump. Taxing us.

But blame big oil, and Bush! LOL!

Exactly Meb!

The oil barons have been making windfall profits MUCH greater than the paltry percentage mention by comrade Frank.

Is it only a coincidence that the Bush family fortune was made by bedding with fat cat oil czars of west Texas?

And the secret society the Bush cats formed with the Saudi sponsors of the 9-11 attack. Atta was a distant relative of the Royal family as were most of the other attackers.

Face it folks, we need to be more like Venezuela where gas sells for less that 30 cents per gallon. Why? Because they kicked out Exxon and share the wealth with the population.

Chavez is an idiot and a thug and a commie jerk, but gas is cheap. At least we have a jerk who is not a commie.

How many of you would like to be paying 30 cents per gallon? If it required Exxon to bite the dust

what is the loss?

We ship out wealth out of the country and the Chinese and the saudi's and chavez are getting rich from our suffering.

How much longer can we bleed from a thousand cuts?

Act now America!! nationalize big oil, use the assets to rebuild our economy and seal the borders. NO MORE imports from China. NO MORE oil from terrorist sponsors. Drill in Alaska and Florida.

Every citizen of Alaska get a check every year as their share of oil revenuce. Why not every American?
