The American public’s opinion of the invasion of Iraq has changed significantly since the years preceding the incursion..

An early 2007 ( BEFORE the SURGE ) USA Today/Gallup Poll indicated that 75% of Americans felt the U.S. did not make a mistake in sending troops to Iraq in March 2003…

However, according to the same poll retaken in April 2007, 58% of the participants stated that the initial attack was a mistake. ( So essentially we have TWO polls by the SAME pollster (( but with DIFFERENT People )) stating EXACT opposite things )…

In May, 2007, the New York Times and CBS News released similar results of a poll in which 61% of participants believed the U.S. "should have stayed out" of Iraq…

****************************************************

THOSE numbers supporting the war have consistantly risen SINCE the SUCCESSES of the Surge have become SOMEWHAT Public Knowlege..Interresting enough,, it SEEMS that the attempts to SLANDER Petreas had BACKFIRED for the Democrats..

HERE is just an example of some other polls taken about the War..I make NO claim that they are representative of what the American People want or think as THEY do..I make NO claims that they are EVEN representative of the AVERAGE poll..I JUST present them as a CAREFULLY chosen list to make my point..OTHERS can come up with other polls to make THEIR points and they can do it very easilly..

So WHY am I doing this??

WHAT is my POINT???

Bear with me..YOU SHALL SEE in a moment.....

***************************************************

February 2001

Seven months prior to the September 11 attacks a Gallup poll showed that 52% would favor an invasion of Iraq while 42% would oppose it.

January 2003

An early January 2003 poll showed rapidly decreasing support for an invasion, although there was still more public support than there was prior to the "Gulf War" a decade ago.

Approximately 2 out of 3 respondents wanted the government to wait ( WAIT,,NOT abandon Invasion plans ) for the UN inspections to end, and only 31% supported using military force immediately. Interestingly, this same poll showed that a majority of Americans believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, but did not expect UN inspectors to find them.. ( SO one can reasonably conclude that those SAME 2 out of 3 who wanted to WAIT believed that War was inevitable and they were NOT opposed to it ONCE their conditions were met..…IMO…)

Some polls showed that Bush's 2003 State of the Union increased US support for the invasion, but other polls showed that it had little effect.

Most polls showed that support for the invasion, depending on how the question is phrased, was at between 55-65% (58% according to CNN/USA Today, 57% according to the LA Times, and 67% according to Fox"

****************************************************
**

Now,, I’m NOT a big fan of polls,, they are at their BEST when done HONESTLY but THAT is RARE,, They are at BEST merely an Indication of what’s going on in the hearts and minds of the American People and more OFTEN then NOT the CONCLUSIONS have proven themselves to be Totally and Completely unreliable..

The Polls themselves are SUBJECT to the biasness of the questions,, the SELECTION of those being Polled,, the motivation and agenda of the Pollster and OFTEN the carefully chosen News coming from the MSM..The CONCLUSIONS are Subject to interpretations which are ALSO based on these factors..And they CHANGE every DAY,,,OFTEN dramatically..

ONE can find a POLL whose interpreted conclusions support ANY position without a WHOLE lot of trouble..JUST as ONE can make ANY poll say whatever they want it to say by JUST asking the Questions JUST so..

They DID JUST that with the Illegal Invader Amnesty bill..They tried to CONVINCE us that 80% of ALL Americans SUPPORTED their Amnesty Bill based on a POLL that asked the simple question;;

"Are YOU against Immigration?" ( Presumably,,LEGAL or otherwise)

They EVEN knew the KINDS of people that would be opposed to their bill...

IGNORANT RACISTS…..

SO you SEE, trusting the POLL is merely a matter of HOW much you can Trust the POLLSTER..

However,, taken as a whole,,ONE may extrapolate SOME conclusions based on these samples…

There are MANY claims being made by SOME who are in NO position whatsoever to make their claims and present their opinions as FACT when it IS in Fact,, MERELY their opinions..

BUT despite their claims,,

There has NEVER been a TIME when the VAST majority of Americans were against the War on Terror and FEW times when Americans were against the War against SADDAM and of THOSE,, NEVER has that opposition risen to the level of 70 or 80 persent..

The VAST Majority of Americans have NEVER been opposed to EITHER the War against Terror OR the War against Saddam NOR have the Majority of Americans EVER had ANY trouble in telling the difference between the two…It SEEMS that ONLY those opposed to the War have THAT difficulty...And they are PERSISTANT in trying to CONFUSE the two...

Opinions Fluctuate between approval and disapproval based on a variety of factors.. ( Mostly on whether it’s GOOD News or Bad News coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan ) and SOMETIMES this has resulted in a temporary DIP below the 50% mark in the approval ratings but by FAR,,MORE Americans have CONSISTANTLY SUPPORTED the War over the long run then those who opposed it..

THEY don't like War..ONLY a MADMAN would WANT war but they ALSO see the necessity of this war and they NEVER forget WHO the enemy is despite the efforts of the left..They want to get out SURE,,, but as WINNERS,, NOT with our tails tucked between our legs..

Here’s another thing about these Polls,,ONE in Particular,,

PAY ATTENTION to THIS BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT POINT that I’m making here!!!!!!!

I found it interresting to NOTE,, for instance,, the Gallop poll of February of 2001 that shows,, QUITE CLEARLY,, that less then ONE month AFTER George W.Bush was inaugurated and SEVEN months BEFORE the attacks of 9/11,,

52% OF ALL AMERICANS WOULD FAVOR AN INVASION OF IRAQ…

Now LOOK,,YOU can question or EVEN debate the accuracy of the FIGURES of this Poll but you CANNOT question the TIMING or the SUBJECT of this Poll..

THIS seems to fly in the FACE of the WELL Publicized and incessantly repeated LIE that Ole George managed to CONVINCE a STUPID America to go for the Invasion of Iraq by associating it to the attacks of 9/11..

HOW could he have DONE this if that HADN’T EVEN HAPPENED YET???

So,,The BIG lie about George W. Bush's BIG lie is in Fact and QUITE clearly PROVEN by the very EXISTANCE of THIS poll,,,,,,a BIG LIE….

And ALL this talk about a "CONFUSED" America that you keep hearing about OVER and OVER again on thiese boards is LIKEWISE,,,,a BIG Lie...

So,,in conclusion,,the NEXT time you hear,,on these boards or anywhere else what it IS that these self-appointed spokesmen for ALL of America says is what the VAST Majority of Americans WANT or do NOT want,, Consider the SOURCE and consider THEIR source..It is MOST likely coming from SOME poll carefully calculated and manipulated to say EXACTLY that……

I don't listen to politicians anyway nor do I expect any poll they may have to show as truth! Out of all the wars we have been involved in, the Iraq war is the only one that wasn't started by us...they drew first blood...we happened to let them know we will not take that kind of crap! So all in all, Bush is the only president that had reason to go to war! I just posted a blog about this!

The post above shows the danger of being uninformed. "Out of all the wars we have been involved in, the Iraq war is the only one that wasn't started by us"? It's the only war that *was* started by us! Iraq didn't attack us first, we attacked Iraq first. *Afghanistan* under *the Taliban* attacked us first -- and that's where our war effort ought to have remained concentrated, rather than relegated to the sidelines. And now, because of that strategic blunder, we're bogged down in Iraq, the Taliban is resurgent in Afghanistan, and Iran (deprived of the enmity of Iraq) has emerged as a regional power. Americans really need to get the facts straight, rather than merely swallow Bush administration propaganda. Indeed, more and more seem to be waking up to that fact...

What makes you think that the Taliban attacked us First??

The Taliban NEVER attacked us on 9/11

Tha Afghanis NEVER attacked us on 9/11

And Osama bin-Ladin is holed up in PAKISTAN,, NOT Afghanistan..

WHY are the Terrorist in Afghanistan MORE guilty then the terrorists in Iraq??

The war against Saddam and Iraq has been OVER since the capture of Saddam 4 YEARS ago....

Iraq is but another FRONT in the SAME War that we're waging in Afghanistan..

In Fact,,there is a GREATER connection between the Terrorists in Afghanistan and Iraq then there was between Japan and Germany during WWII...

being in Iraq is a very strategic place to be.....is smack dab in the middle of the terrorists, we have to have a presence there, to hopefully deter future 911's
Have none of you ever played war type games?
Besides at least Bush had a plan.......did Clinton?

I agree with Twizlled. And it's odd every time my husband and I flip through to the cable channel that shows a great deal of Military action going on, consensus from the ones serving in Iraq are that they should remain there and see it through to the end, that if they left now, all would seem like it was for nothing. Just out of curiosity Hawkeye, what do you think about the military personnel stating complete opposite of what the American people want? I think I am more inclined to believe our military people serving there opposed to our politicians and what the American consensus is here. I have to agree that since 911, we have been protected against any further attacks.

Friends, the terrorists are scared to death about what's happening in Iraq. They are so afraid we will succeed, AND WE ARE. That's why you don't hear much news coming out of Iraq today. The media is in the tank for the Democrats and good news out of Iraq is bad news for the Democrats because they are totally invested in our defeat there. That's why the media hasn't told you that the Iraqi military has regained control of Basra and they have taken back Sadr City from our pudgy little friend Muqtada (Mookie) al Sadr in Baghdad. You see, the Iraqi military and police forces don't have to be as nice as we do. They don't care what the Liberals in this country or in Europe think of them. They just want their country back. So they can just move in and get the job done because they don't have liberals trying to tie their hands behind their backs. The terrorists are scared because there are still a lot of people in Iran who remember that they had it a lot better under the Shah and don't like living under Sharia Law. So the terrorists there are afraid that success in Iraq might inspire the people in Iran to try the same thing there. They also know that there are a lot of people living in Muslim countries that have never known what true freedom is like so they don't want a Muslim nation right next door where they can see freedom working. In other words, they don't want a democratic free Muslim country in the Middle East because they don't want their people to see how oppressive Sharia Law is by comparison. The terrorists know how important Iraq is even though American Liberals don't.

That's why the leaders of Hezbollah, Hamas and Iran endorsed Obama. They know that, if he wins in November, THEY WIN. Think about this. Other than in the War Zones, there have been no attacks on U.S. soil or U.S. facilities overseas since we went into Iraq because we have them occupied there. But the Liberals are doing everything in their power to try to tie the hands of our security forces. Why? Because THE DEMOCRATS WANT US TO LOSE. Case in point. Nine guys in black bath robes just gave the terrorists in Gitmo constitutional rights and access to out legal system. What's next? Do we need to get search warrants before we enter a terrorist's house? Do we need to read them their Miranda rights before we take them prisoner? Do we need to make the soldiers who capture them available to testify at their trial? How far does this madness go? If we capture bin Ladin, are we to consider him to be innocent until the courts can try him? And if we are to consider him to be innocent until proven guilty, then why do we have soldiers out there trying to kill him right now? Bill Clinton treated terrorism as a law enforecement matter and you saw where it got us. 9/11!!!!! Law enforcement actions don't kick in until after we're attacked. But that's what the liberals want us to do. We wait until we're attacked, then we go out and arrest them and put them on trial. We indicted biin Ladin years ago. What good did that do? This has never happened in the entire history of our country and there is no law to justify it today. But Liberals are applauding that court decision. I don't know what the b

I don't really know how to answer you,Robin..I don’t presume to KNOW what the American People Want and I suspect that those who claim they do FOOL very few..
But HERE’S my answer…

When I look into the eyes of a serviceman or woman I SEE the Face of the American People..

I see an American who HATES War but will FIGHT,, even unto Death,, for his/her country..

I SEE an American who LOVES his/her Country never so much as when she is at Peace that they will NOT hesitate to FACE violence to defend that Peace..

I see an American who SO loves his/her Country that THAT Love transcends EVEN his/her OWN existance..

I See an American who SO loves his HOME that he/she will travel around the world to protect it..

I see an American who would NEVER Fail in his/her Duty,, never Shirk his/her Responsibility and Never Waver in his/her Determination to KEEP America FREE..

So,,,YOU tell ME, Robin..WHERE is THAT so different then what the REST of the American People want..

I feel sorry for you guys (and ladies) that have swallowed the neo-con party line. I was all for kicking some Iraq ass in the beginning but as more facts came to light and the real cost of war hit home with my family I "flip flopped". Just remember, these American casulities are real people with kids and families. They are not just numbers on a screen and IMO there is nothing in Iraq worth what it has cost us already. Carpet bomb the entire country.

O boo ho Jim , are you saying that the soldiers who died in Africa and Russia and The Philippians under Clinton with no goal and for NO affect on our enemy where not important ? First let me say this 1 Soldiers die whether you are watching or not 2 We are winning against Islamic aggression in Iraq 3 No “war” has EVER been popular !
As far as “polls” it is all about how you set up the question , yes they can say that most Americans want us out of Iraq as long as they include everyone who wants a victory over our enemy to get us out and the anti Republican idiots who want to promote the party at any and all cost ...including surrender to Terrorism as a vehicle for their liberal agenda.

In ALL honesty,,I didn't take Robin's question to be baiting at ALL...

I felt that it is JUST too easy to think of our Men and Women in uniform as robotic figures all lined up in a row..

They are INDIVIDUALS who have learned through INTENSE training and experience to function as a Unit when situations call for that.. However,, under that uniform beats the heart of a FREE American Citizen...And I personally THINK of them ALL as citizens whether they ARE or NOT..ANYONE willing to put their LIFE on the line for THIS country deserves to be thought of and treated AS a Citizen of America...

The “consensus” you speak of Robin (about most Americans wanting out of Iraq) is manufactured, it is built by cleverly asking only questions that are carefully worded so that they can be used out of context and with a different meaning than what was intended by the person answering the question...RE if you do not define the difference between a victory and a defeat/withdraw in Iraq you can add the vast majority of Americans who want this war to end in our victory to those who have used this war as an excuse for their anti Republican agenda and arrive at a “majority” ...it is a deliberate scam , I want this war to end ! Yes but not at the cost of a lose after what we have paid for a victory that is at hand....but my intent would be lost in any “poll” and only the “end the war” part would be presented as my opinion....avoid polls , they lie ! LOL

What did you guys think on my assessment of the February 2002 Poll??

THAT was the centerpoint of my post..

The MERE existance of that poll SEVEN MONTHS BEFORE 9/11,, CLEARLY tells ME that the American People were well AWARE of the Crises with Iraq BEFORE 9/11 and that ANY support for the INVASION PREDATED that attack..

So..American opinions of the invasion COULDN'T have been formed SOLELY by Bush making ANY 9/11-Iraq connection as the Bushwhackers claim..

you can get two results from the same poll simply based on what your demographic is. If you were to ask a question about whether gas prices were affecting their daily commute in New York City and Orlando, the polls would reflect entirely different answers.

The fact that people often say that polls are skewered is the fact that they look at the graphs rather than read the actual reports given with the polls. There is also a margin of error given which people very seldom take into account.

Furthermore you could be for going to war and not the initial attack. Since one is addressing the motivation behind the war and the other how the approach was enacted.

For the record I went to Tier 1 school and received my education from both republicans and democrats. My favorite teacher was a former Army Colonel and he taught all of his students to never take anything you read in the news or hear on TV at face value. Ask the questions yourself and get your own answers.

Oh for the record everyones likes poll's that support their argument, its the ones that don't that are at fault.
