Can anyone around here tell me the name of a Dr that does laser surgery on back's and necks? I thought I had found the answer to my prayers when I found the Laser Spine Institute. I called them and explained my problem, two herinated disc in my neck and degenerative disc disease with a cracked disc in my back. She told me they don't take my insurance{ I am on disability and have Secure Horizons} She then told me that without insurance the cost of the surgery would be $35,000. Gee maybe I must have on the wrong pants cause there ain't that much money in my pocket sorry. She then told me maybe we could go take out a mortgage. Thanks but we already have a first and a second. I just need to get this fixed ASAP without going thru all the recovery time a regular operation will take. My regular neurosurgeon was gonna have to go in thru the front of my neck and maybe if I had a child that could understand that mama can't do things regular surgery would be OK. My son , even though he is only mildly autistic and is very smart   still dosn't get what surgery is and how mama would have to take it easy. I am trying to get off these pain meds and muscle relaxers but I just can't handle the pain so I go running for the pill bottle. I am willing to go to St.Pete, Clearwater, even Orlando if necessary to get some help because as time goes by it's just getting worse. The only thing that scares me is the disc that is on my spinal cord in my neck. If anyone knows anyone I would be so grateful. I'M DESPERATE. I'm praying someone out there can help me find a Dr. so that I can be a normal person again.

Mornin' Janice... I've been looking online but doctor/,edical searches are so gosh darn convaluted.

Do you remember where or how you first heard about this procedure? I can usually ferret out info online, so maybe a little more details would help.

Either way, praying for you. The lupus flares up and days like today my bones and joints and skin make a good case for climbing out of oneself.

But motherhood takes no holidays.

Morning Bradleys, well I first heard about it when I read an article about it in a magazine at a Dr,s office. I then found it listed in the yellow pages and so I decided to call them. I was so disappointed when they told me they don't take my insurance. How is anyone expected to come up with $35,000 unless you win the lottery or make hundred's of thousands a year? The normal operation for this has such a long recovery time and like you said motherhood knows no holidays. Since he's been born I have had 3 operations already and with my next surgery this will be number 9. I am really tired of this pain and with each day I just try to make myself keep going no matter what. I'll add you to my prayers also. Can NEVER have to many of those. Hope you feel better.

Mornin' Janice. Thank you; I'm returning the prayer favor. :-)

We were without insurance for five years. I feel how frustrating this is for you. Frightening and dreadful, too.

There has GOT to be a better way, but what it is we will likely never know.

It was embittering to find that illegals and inmates get health care and working, legal, law-abiding Americans cannot.

No one has sufficiently explained this phenomenon to me, and while I could never support a socialized approach to medical care, I do believe if we cut out all the handholding of illegals and criminals we could save billions and put THAT towards SOME sort of National HMO or whatever that would still hold it's recipients responsible for co-pays, but would go to alleviating some of these outrageous health care costs.

And knowing what I know of you at this point, I daresay every extra cent you've budgeted for medical care in your household, well, your son gets priority.

((((hugs))) Janice. I'll keep brainstorming.

You are so right that my son's needs comes first. Always has always will. And it also makes me sick to know that all these prisoners and illegals are allowed to get better health care that we do and we belong here. What is wrong with this country when we put those that don't deserve better than those that are trying to make a living and pay our taxes and those that don't work or get paid under the table? Change has to happen soon and if I can't find someone to help me soon I'm gonna be going crazy.

I am a 46 year old housewife with a 9 year old autistic child. I have lived in Florida my whole life and have been as far as Tennessee. I would love to be able to travel with our son but living with an autistic child makes it hard to do. I Spend a lot of time reading and learning all I can about Autism and ways to help my child learn . We are hoping that they will soon learn what causes Autism and ways to treat it.
