At the Orient Road Jail, Charlette Marshall-Jones, or Deputy Devil (as appropriately nicknamed by blogger K1662), in an incident as ridiculous as it was brutal, dumped a prisoner, Brian Sterner, out of his wheelchair.  What made the incident worse was the lack of compassion shown by everyone else there. No one made any effort to help him. They just left him there.

To compound the evil even more, one fat supervisor laughed into the camera that recorded the incident.  I will never forget the sadistic look on his face as long as I live.  I reminds me of the cruel laughter of evil scientists in some of those old monster movies in which the monster is torturing his victim and laughing uproariously at her plight.  He is Supervisor Sadist as far as I am concerned.

I got very angry as I watched the incident.  I was born with a disability, although I am not in a wheelchair.  Growing up, I was constantly bullied, especially by one neighbor.  I know how that feels, so I have nothing but sympathy for Brian Sterner.  It does not matter why he was in the jail: None of those deputies did right by him.  First, he was bullied by Deputy Devil, and then laughed at by Supervisor Sadist.  No one helped him back into the chair that I saw.  Everyone around also used to have a good time at my expense when I was bullied. Outside of help from my family, only one time do I recall ever being helped with a bully.  That is not something I can forget.

I don't care how high Supervisor Sadist's rank is in the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department.  His callous behavior has disgraced his uniform.  If not fired, he should at least be demoted to several ranks lower than his present one.

I must say that I am thankful that the Sheriff is not tolerating what was done.  He just needs to find decent corrections officers.

The quality of the officers employed of Orient Road Jail, as shown by their inhumane and cruel treatment of Brian Sterner, reminds me of another prison: Abu Garib.

I asked this questions on another Blog. What is the hiring policy of law enforcement and emergency response operators (911)? Is careful screening and psychological testing required before hiring? Or, is the criteria based on arbitrary ratios based on ethnicity, gender or perhaps economic status? Whatever the case, we are not getting the professional level performance we are depending upon.

These are very good questions. I would love to know the answers myself, as I am sure many others also would. Is the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department getting what it is paying for? It depends on the criteria for hiring. I hope it isn't "affirmative action" favoring any group. I hope that professionalism and decency are the criteria and this is an isolated incident.

Unfortuntely, this is not an isloated incident. This is happening in increasing numbers throughout the U.S. It would be an incredible shame if the hiring policies of these agencies were left to the discretion of local bureaucrats or some "politically correct" based organization that would put "policy" before individual ability.

We need to know more about the "criteria" that is currently "in place"....a LOT more!

As a person who used to work with physically and mentally limited people, the key word being people, I find the actions of this deputy to be nothing less than heinous, it's an abomination of the justice system. This woman has abused her position as well as Brian Sterner.

As far as hiring criteria goes, we all know about hiring policies regarding ethnicity and gender (maybe even religion), unfortunately, because of these policies, the person who is hired is not always the best person for the position.

"...we all know about hiring policies regarding ethnicity and gender..." I freely confess that I do not know the employment policies of law enforcement and emergency response operators (911). However, we all should know that in either case, the quality of these services have deteriorated to life threatening levels.

To improve the quality there must be changes made from the current proceedures and policies for hiring personnel. People are not asking for social engineering. They are asking for "...the best person for the position..."! We are talking "survival" here folks!

They cops need to remember, they are hired and paid the big bucks to protect the citizens. They forget, by getting drunk with power just because they carry a gun and a badge. They often act as though they are militia. They need to be taken down a few notches and be reminded of what their jobs really are about. They are certainly not paid to abuse our system of government, but they sure act as though they run our country.
