All it takes is a simple click of your seatbelt to save your life. So why is it so hard for people to do it? Well, local law enforcement don't care what you're reasons are for NOT buckling up. If you get caught not wearing your seatbelt, you're going to pay up. $76.50. So, why not buckle up, save a life and save some cash?!

The nationwide campaign is kicking of in Pinellas County this week and Deputy Ken Euler from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office joined me on Good Day this morning to talk more about the nationwide campaign. You can find the full interview under the Good Day tab.

Here's a few facts.

In 2006, 120 people died in traffic crashes in Pinellas County.

43 of them were not wearing seatbelts.

Florida Seatbelt Law: The driver and front seat passenger must be belted.  Anyone under the age of 18 in the vehicle must be belted regardless of where they are sitting. If you are over 18 years old, You can not get pulled over for not wearing your seatbelt, there must be some type of moving violation for a police officer to stop you.

Hey Jen, This is one (of many) of those Florida laws I just don't get. I know people which seat belts have saved. And I know a woman which had she had her seat belt would have been killed. So how is it the state feels it has the right to tell me what choice to make??? And if they have this right what is the deal with the helmet law for motorcycles (tell me how that works?)? I do not wear my seat belt unless I'm on the highway. Who knows maybe I'll pay the ultimate price for my decision.... But it is my choice.... Not Florida's.

Hey everybody, it's Jen, your traffic reporter. I love working for Good Day, we have so much fun in the mornings! Since I am new to the area, i'm still learning the roads and the trouble spots. That's why I need YOU. I want to hear what drives you crazy...which intersections give you a headache, busy spots and construction zones in your area. And i'll help answer any traffic questions you have.
