The rainy season has come to an end and the rainfall amounts were all over the place. Some areas were way below normal. Here is a list of some places in our area:

Town                                Actual Rainfall          Departure from Normal

  • Ft. Myers                               34.24"                                -2.25"
  • Lakeland                              32.12"                               +3.95"
  • Tampa                                  32.08"                               +5.95"
  • St. Petersburg                     25.80"                                -2.80"
  • Brooksville                           28.30"                                -0.23"
  • Sarasota                              19.35"                              -13.45"

Sarasota really sticks out with over a foot below normal. Then you look at Tampa which was nearly 6 inches above normal and then go across the bay and St. Petersburg was nearly 3 inches below. Although you notice as a whole most areas were below normal for the rainy season and now that we are heading into the drier months of the year we will all have to watch our water usage as drought conditions could become quite severe by spring.

I am a certified meteorologist at FOX 13, you can see my weather forecast every Saturday and Sunday evening at 6 and 10pm. Growing up I used to watch the weather and plot hurricanes along with the news and then try to make my own predictions based on what I learned. Along with my interest in weather I also like to travel and enjoy the outdoors. When I get away from the office I jump on my TREK, hit the trails and enjoy the outdoors.
