I'm a little cranky right now. Maybe it's lack of sleep. Maybe I'm just outraged. I can't really decide between the two.

I'm P1ss3d right now. What the h311 happened to our society to make us a bunch of touchy feely huggy morons?

The men in our society used to be big and rugged with a fair but disciplined hand. Now they're getting facials and manicures and instead of disciplining their children, they're giving them big hugs and making excuses for their criminal behavior.

The women in our society used to be lady like and protectors of the children. Now they're exploiting them.

We used to HANG the vilest of  offenders PUBLICLY. To show others consequences of their actions.  Now we 'rehabilitate.'  Are you kidding me? There ARE NO CONSEQUENCES anymore!

If I get a DUI I pay a fine, spend a night in jail.  If I'm a teacher convicted of child molestation, I'm "too pretty for prision" and get house arrest and then the sentence is shortened. If I rob someone and he shoots me in self-defense- HE gets arrested and I can sue him.  I can get fat on welfare and food stamps. The more children I have, the more you pay. I can provide for all their medical needs with Medicaid. I can go to the ER and clog it up with 'emergencies' and as long as I don't care about my credit score being in the toilet, I don't have to ever pay.

I can get a car from those special programs for 'low income.'  When I apply for disability I can pay for my low income housing and buy a nice Gucci bag and have all designer furniture in my house.

Oh someone stop me now before I have a heart attack.

CAN SOMEONE GET US SOME CONSEQUENCES PLEASE?
CAN SOMEONE GET US A LITTLE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY?
CAN SOMEONE GET US A LITTLE SELF RELIANCE?

Hello Jumpy983

You just wrote a modern version of a chapter in God's Word (Bible). Read II Timothy Chapter 3 special attention on verses 1 thru 7. The KJV has the best description of what you wrote.

The answer to the questions you ask can be found in the same book I just referred you to.

It would take pages to go thru all the references and answers that are available but this is the "Readers Digest" version :-)

Would you settle for a couple Tylenol and a hug? :)

OK...just kidding. Let's see...we don't rehabilitate any more. That concept was officially dropped by the government (If I'm not mistaken) in the 40's. Today we simply punish. Of course, we look for every excuse to blame someone else for our problems, which tends to help balance out those that think serving alcohol to minors to be a hanging offense. Personal responsibility? I believe that's a concept that was officially discarded by the public in the 60's.

But before you pine too much for those good 'ole days, take a moment to reflect upon things like slavery, sweat shops, women's rights, barbaric medical practices, witch hunts and McCarthyism. The past isn't as good as we'd like to remember, and the future is only as bleak as we permit it to be.

More later...I'm late for my massage and pedicure. ;)

The 80's was the problem. Remember the sweaters the dad on A.L.F. wore? That was the beginning of the pussification of America.

Jumpy before you need CPR take a look at yourself in the mirror and say to yourself...I am who I am and I got here on my own, everything I have, it was bought with my own sweat and tears,I can go to sleep at night and feel the freedom which I have created in my own home, my own soul and for my own family. You are exactly the kind of people who built this nation. You stand with many many many Americans just like yourself, those who take nothing and give their all.

Excellent post, Jumpy. You know, nowadays everyone has an excuse and if they don't they're thinking up one as quickly as they can to help them get out of the mess they've created for themsselves.

There's another huge excuse that's in the make today. It's called the illness excuse. It's not my fault, I have this or that illness or it's not my fault, it's my medication that makes me do this.

Heck no, It's called self-control or the lack thereof. And there's no excuse. A person is responsible for their own actions. If a mistake is made, it should be corrected and not repeated and not excused.

There's no responsibility and no self-control just a lot of excuses. And no one wants to say a simple "I'm sorry" anymore. They just open their mouths and let the excuses pour out.

Leas..., et al

The reason nobody says "I'm sorry" any more is because that would be a tantamount to an admission of guilt. Unfortunately, we (this society) preach one thing but practice another. We swear that telling the truth is the right thing to do, but when we admit our mistakes the admission is not rewarded with forgiveness. Instead, we get betrayal and punishment. Been there, taken my beatings. I hate to say that lying is right, but I can certainly see the reasoning behind it.

Two sayings come to mind: "Honesty is the best policy" and "To err is human, but to forgive is divine". Problem is, we have too much humanity and not enough divinity. This leaves us with a policy that is predestined to failure, and we have only ourselves to blame. Well, not me personally. I'm above that. ;)

Elka,
I've enjoyed your posts. Glad to have you around, along with Jab. Ya'll are welcome editions :)
I dusted off my Bible, sad to say it hasn't been used as much as it should be, and read your reference. Very interesting...and scary to a degree. I'd like to think there's a little more time before the Apocalypse. I guess we really might be getting down to the wire.

Accountability was shot to death about the same time the chalk line was drawn around Common Sense.

Suspects in both cases were detained, but they presented their Get Out of Jail FREE cards (available in PDF format online) and were released.

I'm a new mom. Happily married to the most wonderful man in the world. I love animals and the environment but i'm far from a "tree hugging hippie" i like to fish and shop. Personally, I believe a picture is worth a thousand words, so I tend to post pictures instead of full length sermons.
