my julia roberts moment

Hey there, just back from my vacation and one of those "open mouth insert both feet moments".

while staying in kona this past weekend i saw one of my favorite movie stars, Julia Roberts. Of course having twins just a few months younger than hers i also feel that strange bond.

my awkward moment had nothing to do with that, but rather the obivously rude thing i said to a friend of hers.

i saw a woman i've met a few times and we had already bumped into each other at the resort and i knew she was there not only with her family but with her mom as well. so when i saw her in the spa with a woman i said "oh is this must be your mom", it wasn't it was a friend of hers who was obviously highly offended with me. this all went down in front of julia roberts who also happened to be friends with the offended woman and there was no amount of "oh my gosh" i just had a spa treatment and am a little lightheaded" that got me out of that uncomfortable moment...they all just kinda looked at me as if i was the biggest idiot. and i couldn't get out of there fast enough.

i usually don't say stuff like that, not quite sure what came over me...but it leads me to my question of you...whats the worst thing you've ever said, by accident...you know speaking before thinking kind of thing?

 let me know, i could use a good laugh!

Oh I said the wrong thing in front of a small time movie producer friend once. He got kinda pissed and than I turned it into a joke, got friendlier and bought him a drink plus a lunch, and even though he didn't do anything with my work, we ended up looking back and it worked out well. It became nothing more than an occasional laugh, because over time it was nothing more than a blip in history and not worthy of rehashing. Here's the deal Lisa. We all blather something out in a misunderstanding sometime, and while at the moment it may look bad, it really has a way of being healed over time. Probably in a year or less when you dross paths again with J.R. you'll laugh at it as a mistake and the both of you being bright women will realize it was an awkward moment and leave it at that. They say it takes a big person to apologize, and an even bigger one to accept it. Than get on with life, its too short to worry over.

I was working Hospitality suite at the Greek Theater and i heard Gary Coleman say something about not being able to open the door to the patio. I turned around and said as i was unhooking the latch at the TOP of the door... Oh, you just need to be a little taller to do that... I could have swallowed myself whole... how embarassing was that...
and the time i asked this lady when her baby was due... she said, "I'm not having a baby" well I NEVER ask that question again:)

We went out to dinner the other night. I sat at one end of a large booth.When the waitress came over to the table she stood next to me with her stomach in my face.

One of my female friends knew the waitress and asked how her baby was coming along. When the waitress asked me what I wanted to eat, I responded (thinking she was pregnant) and pointed to her bulging belly, "Is that your baby?"

The waitress walked away crying...and we had to leave.

The worst thing? The time that I called a boy I liked and had gone out with (one of my high school sweethearts). He wasnt there (at least that is what his mom said) butshe also asked me if I had been the one that was with him on a night he had gotten into trouble. I was so freaked out about that, that I went to the kitchen to tell my mom and unveild the entire story of what really happened. As soon as I got the last word out of my mouth I realized I had exposed the lie I had told her on the night in question. My eyes got huge and I said " I CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST DID THAT".My mom didnt say a word. She kind of smiled but she knew I would be kicking myself in the butt.

Havent we all said something that got misconstrued, or just put our foot in our mouth. I read once that Saggitarians are known for innocently saying something that could cut to the core, and not even realize it.
Well I always prided myself with the fact that I weigh thing and try to look at all sides before I say something. After I read that I paid closer attention and YEP! I do that. Now I kind of just nod and smile.

well i didnt say anything, it's what i did. i just started working at a new place. well my boss, his wife, and i were on break. we were going to go outside by the pool to have some tea. well i went back to the kitchen to fetch some mustard for the sandwiches, and i didnt notice they shut the screen door. well i walked right into it cuz i had my head down. and totatally broke the door. at that moment, they were talking about how great and smart of a worker i was. i think after i broke the door down, they took it back. lol.

Samo, that probably was embarrasing, but when we are in an unfamiliar place.....well we can't be expected to know about everything.
It kind of reminds me of the time when my brother moved back home with two dogs, my mom was not impressed and had little patience for them. One day she called one of them to come, why she didnt open the sliding screen door before she called the dog I dont know. The dog trying to please her jumped in tearing the door off its track. Then she really wasnt happy. I kind of tried to tell her that she couldnt really blame the dog, without pissing her off. (not an easy job)

Oh Lisa....Poor Baby....And I know u went streight 2 your suite and balled your little eyez out 2.....over an embarrasing moment. WhatDaProblemIz¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿Just know that I saw nothing wrong with an honest mistake.....The offended woman MUST have looked...well lets say more "MATURE" than Ms. Roberts and the other friend. I wonder why she would have been OFFENDED by such a simple comment¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ If it were me, I would have keep gettin my spa on...No hurry 2 GET OUT OF ANYWHERE, especially a spa.......
My "moment"(and still not embarrased) is when I saw Johnny Gill(sat at the table right next to him)@ Mr. Chows, sat thru my entire dinner with my husband, and as we were leaving, I decided I wanted to let him know that he was in the rotation on the iPod earlier that day, and I STARTED TO SING.....Can U feel, the magic in my hands, when I touch, and rub u the right way........Mind U, I can't sing a lick...TONE DEAF 4 REAL....

okay, see we all do it...make stupid comments before thinking. by the way, i always believe the pregnancy question is always always off limits, you just never know!
and for "whatdaproblemlz" no i didn't go back to my suite and ball my eyes out...because we didn't have one, maybe that's the real reason i should have cried! :-)
hey by the way, i am going to be on the hbo show "entourage" this sunday night....more on that later...but i hope you watch, and i hope it doesn't get cut!

here is a good story. well my dad was a pastor of a church. so my dad was giving a serman at this one lady's house that lives right by the lake. well i didnt know what her name was. i was a child at the time. but i always hear my sister's calling her fro. so i thought that was her name. so i went up to her to ask her if it's ok if i checked out the lake by her dock. but when i asked her i called her fro. everyone just looked in shocked when i blurted that out, except me, cuz i didnt know better. well her name was mary, and she didnt get angry. just thought it was funny, and no she was not african american. she was a nice white lady, with a big perm.

Okay this is silly and still embarrasing to this day.
About 15 years ago I took my car to the Dealership for service, they did a terrible job and I was not happy with the service so I wanted to go somewhere else.
A friend of mine referred me to an automotive shop that he thought highly of so I took my car there.
The owner of the shop, well His Name is Dick.
So I am telling DICK how unhappy I was with the Dealership's service. and I said:
"The Dealership was DICKING me around"
OMG, I realize, his name is Dick, and I just said Dicking around... every time I go in, and I still go there, I think of that thing I said 15 yrs ago...

Lisa I respect you and thank you greatly for engaging in the blog, unlike the other entertainer reporter who blogs and runs and leaves everyone without a response. No need to cry, I guess I probably would have been far more harsh on celebs than you were by accident. I probably would have asked if they were both currently Pregnant, just to see how far I could insult them, but that's just me pushing the bounds beyond where they normally would go, in my bashing the anti-American Hollywood types.

Anyhow thanks you very much for the integrity of engaging everybody here. It pays great respect and homage to the other bloggers who do take their time to post.

Thank you for sharing, so sorry about the results.
Wouldn't it be nice if when that happens, (when we just say the wrong thing) that the person involved would come back with something kind and understanding? Because we all do it!!!
My most embarrassing moment was when in second grade we were all adding words on the chalkboard from the "it" family. Like, hit, fit, pit etc. Wow I had a word in my head that nobody had I was waving my hand back and forth like a child who needed to use the rest room! In fact this word was as common in our home as peanut butter and jelly. It was a word that was definitely in that family of words. Finally my teacher Mrs. Garr said, okay Melody what is your word! Loud and clear I said, "BLEEP!" OMG..!!!!!!! I thought I would die! My hand grabbed my mouth and my face radiated bright red....... Laughter blasted through the entire room! My sweet teacher knew that I had no idea how that word would sound after it flew out of my mouth said, “she didn't mean it class she made a mistake. But truly I thought I would die....

Well, I would have to say that I say something stupid anytime I am out of my element and encounter a person for the first time who is either someone I admire or a woman I like. You want to tell them, "No seriously, I'm cooler than this!" :)

However, let me reverse this to the most embarrassing thing I've ever had said to me. When my first CD came out, I was making an appearance at Kemper Arena in KC for the American Royal Rodeo. One night, Chris LeDoux was appearing in concert. I was in the concourse signing CD's. A fan bought a CD and asked, "Can Chris sign this?" My promo person said, "Sure, he's right here." The fan said, "No I meant Chris LeDoux!" :)

Now that will bring you down to earth! :)

Wow, so many. I remember being at a party when I was in my 20s and asked a lady when her baby was due, and she told me she had it 4 months earlier. I was sooo embarassed. I don't do that anymore unless I know for sure they are pregos!

You know what is also embarrassing is when a question is pose towards you. Let me make sense of what I am trying to say. One day at church, a member that had known another member for a short period of time asked if she was my mother (embarrassing since she is only 7 years older than me). I could see the steam coming from her ears so I stepped in and spoke about the good time we had at the services and how delightful it was to see the children enjoying themselves at Vacation Bible School. Change the subject with a positive...

Another angle, Lisa you might try for posterity sake, is the line like "I see you are living well." This is an interesting line because if she responds with eyes, it means she has a weight problem, if she responds another way, she might say (God forbid) "Deary, I am fighting an illness" (Probably fork in mouth illness, that's a great one. The final line is she smiles and says "Well, I am only 4 months away!" Yes try this line next time and see what happens. Its always worth enjoying the company of others...Oh and if they give you the first line just smile politely and roll your eyes. That should bring them down from the evil eye glance.
