most people hate monday mornings, the whole back to the grind thing.
i myself used to get the sunday night blues, knowing that the weekend was over and back to that 2:30am wake up call.

but now i love mondays, in fact it just may be one of my favorite days of the week.
you see, every monday morning after my 5-7am show, i jumped in my car and head off to hopefully give someone a much needed surpise and makeover!

we've teamed up with the legendary hair guru jose eber and his wonderful team, and we knock on someone's door and spend the next 45 minutes working a little magic.

i don't choose the makeover candidates, they are submitted by friends, family, and co-workers who think their loved one needs a little changing...then one of our esteemed producers, steve, picks which one we're doing.

we never really know what we're walking into, most people seem to be truely caught off guard., and all seem truely thankful for the time we've spent with them.

one of my favorite ones came just a week ago, it was the day after the oscars so i was really tired and not completely thrilled to be driving all the way to oxnard, but i knew it was going to be too good to miss.

here is part of the letter we got from melissa's day jerry nominating her:
"at the age of 8...this now 22 year old girl was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor.
melissa has undergone brain surgery...radiation and chemo which has kept the tumor in check...
she's started a project in which she makes and donates bracelets for cancer survivors.
this young girl has gone through so much that this make over would be such a pcik me up for her."

what we found was a truely remarkable young lady who still has plenty more treatments ahead of her, she is also legally blind.

here is the link to the makeover:  Knock, Knock Makeover: Melissa McClelland

and here is the email to purchase the bracelets from melissa:
mimimclelland@hotmail.com

a really lovely family! but then again we meet so many lovely people, and during the hour we're in someone's home, it's always nice to be focusing on the good in life, when so much around us isn't.

have a great week...my blog day is wednesdays now!

LISA, I missed that makeover, thank you for posting it. It was the most beautiful one I have seen. What a curageous women. I love all of the people on GDLA, and the morning show, I like it when you fill in, so we can see more of you.

You asked us to give you our oppinion on your dress. My oppinion is that it is not my favorite. Not ugly by far, but I have seen you wear much prettier things. Hope I have not hurt your feelings, as you always look beautiful. Have a great week!

Hello Misses B. Don't be too depressed over the weekend being over. I actually find the weekends for me as writing time or the basic socializing, but mainly I look forward to the week and the many talk shows on the radio. I find that the week for me is always exciting and in fact it can spawn new story ideas, plots and characters so do not let Sunday evening get you down. Instead, embrace every day as being the best day you have and the days shall embrace your life as well...!

Lisa,

What can I say but KUDOS to you! You were there to help make the day for Melissa, so that is great and wonderful. Also, when you asked about the dress on Good Day LA, I'll say this: FABULOUS and very STRIKING! Great choice Lisa! And by the way, I remember when you used to be a night reporter...LISA MONET. It's been quite a nice journey watching your career take the direction it did. Keep up the great work! And if you can, teach Mark Thompson some of your great weather moves so he will have some more fun stuff when he fills in for Maria Quiban on Channel 13's My13 News. By the way, I work in radio behind the scenes, so here's to all media folks!

Hey Lisa B....Saw the piece on the wonderful young lady...Touched my heart....
I use to dread everyday of the week because I had nothing to look forward to except morning traffic, 8 hours of work, then more traffic. I had to make a change in my life, now Monday is Marvalous, Tuesday is Terrific, Wendesday is Wonderful....and so on and so on........!

Just a quick question for you.....I love the knock knock make overs and all, but does Jose know how to do the hair of an avrage african americian woman? I know I need a major press and curl when getting glammed up.

Thanks Lisa

you know what, "whatdaproblemiz" i am not sure if he's good with a press and curl, i'll have to ask him...and your right we certainly are in control of how we feel each day, sounds like you got the right attitude!

mystere, george clooney really seems to be as nice as he appears, i really don't think you can fake that.

wish i could reply to more of your responses, but right now my little girl wants me to read her new "fancy nancy" book!!!

Yeah, Lisa does look good in most anything she wears. But what really amazes me is Liz Habib. I have a very observant eye for details and performance and of all the ladies on the tube, I have found for some reason that Liz picks up great with any color, and I am not sure why this is so. Doesn't matter what color she is in, she seems to go good with every color I have ever noticed her in, and it is very odd. Almost everyone has a bad color, something that never goes quite right, but I cannot say that about Liz Habib. Lisa you do look elegant in most everything you wear. Like I said in the 2008 Fox One Worders List I post annually, your word was "Soothing"...

Lisa~ you probably felt very blessed after meeting Mimi. You have a cute princess daughter and you can tell she is your daughter.

I think you dress well for the show.

I know Jose' Eber and when I lived in L.A., I use to get my hair done at his Beverly Hills salon.

Lisa and Jose' are a good team!!

Yes they do make an excellent team, and watching the folks getting their makeovers and the surprise on their faces is quite a feat!

Too bad there aren't more segments in Tinseltown devoting time to engaging the general public and doing great and grand things. I credit also the GDLA production execs for greenlighting this move.

Lisa,

I know what you mean about Monday mornings. I generally dislike them, as well.

The internet stream for "Good Day LA" doesn't really start here on the East coast until late morning/early Monday afternoon already. So, we don't see the "Knock Knock Makeovers" until around noon. But, I totally agree with you that the "Knock Knock Makeovers" just brighten the day.

Like RobinZodiac (earlier poster), I also know Jose' Eber (been familiar with his work for over 25 years), and go to his salon any time I get to visit California. He is an amazing person.. I am always fascinated by how he and his team really pull things together to get the makeover accomplished. The time factor really puts a lot of pressure on them. They always manage to pull it out!

The makeover stories are nice. There are some amazing spouses, friends and family members out there.

The other thing I like about "Knock Knock Makeovers" is the fact that for once we are talking about a positive human story. I get so tired, and so much more cynical about the world, when I watch TV or the news. There's so much BAD going on out there. Other than a home makeover show on a (ahem) competing network on Sunday nights, the "Knock Knock Makeover" is another bright and positive spot on the TV schedule.

I appreciate FOX Los Angeles for doing such a thing... and for choosing Jose' and his team for being a part of it. (good choice.. like I said..talented folks!)

Okay see, sorry about that Ms. Lisa. I hit the "done" button too fast. My name is LaToya Johnson, I'm a senior at Dominguez High in Compton, Ca. I want to do a knock knock make-over for my high school counselor Mrs. Shabazz and Ms. Sunny Yu. In Jan, I won the Disney's Dreamers Academy contest with Steve Harvey. I was one of the 100 students from across the nation to take part ingaural event, Jan 17-20-08. These two remarkable ladies stepped up to the plate went out for me. By me winning the contest with Steve Harvey, I was able to be a part of a reality show call "American's Prom Queen" (The Princess Project) which airs next week. Anyway, my high school counselor Mrs. Shabazz & Compton's Unified School District Coordinator Ms. Sunny Yu, put together a special lunch time rally and another ceremony with the School District Board members of Compton for me because of winning this huge contest. Even a man name Andy flew all the way out here from Disney World to take part of my special rally. I recieved two plaque awards & certificates, a goody bags of Disney things and an all expense paid trip to Orlando Florida. Channel 5 news Walt Richards had done a cover story, Our Weekly and Compton's Bulletin wrote articles on my success. Well, since winning the contest, I was choosen to represent Compton as a People to People Student Ambassador started by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956. As I write, I need sponsors & donations for my cost of tuition ($6,000) to travel England & France this summer and a full ride scholarship since I've been accepted to two colleges of my choice.
