i don't think i was a teacher's pet...but i certainly had one teacher that helped shape my life starting in high school and continues to this day.
with this being the graduation season, it got me thinking about that teacher, his name is
Dr. Harold Crook....here's a picture of us at my high school graduation back in 1983!

he is currently the principal of newbury park adventist academy.
i still talk to him on the phone, and at least once or twice a year we get to have lunch.
he even performed my  wedding service.
teachers are such a wonderful gift...unfortunately in the biz i am in we often focus on the bad teachers, without giving the praise to the people who dedicate their lives to helping students achieve.
dr. crook was that person to me...he always saw the potential in a somewhat  insecure teenager....there's not enough time to go on with all that he did to help me become who i am today.
but it's my wish that everyone can have a dr. crook in their life!
what about you? any special teachers or mentors that made a difference?

This message is for Lisa Breckenridge.

Lisa your fashion segments in 'Lisa's LA' are way too biased as they always cover women's fashion and not men's. Makes me think that this morning show is purely directed towards the needs of women only. Because of this I am officially changing my daily morning news channel to a broadcast that evens the playing field and reports to men as well.

Sincerely,
Kody in LA aka "An unserved LA male"

Thanks Misses Lisa. My professors and educators were just the best. I had a grand time in endless debates over a variety of issues both historic and current at those times and it was always great fun listening to and learning from their responses. In my drafting class for instance, I debated my drafting teacher of the time about the AMC Pacer and how cars in the future would all have large bubble domes much like the AMC Pacer and or the Jetson's. His reply was the Pacer is one of the ugliest cars he's ever seen, but I countered "it is a very effective design and signals the future." No arguments there as Mister Rawls couldn't disagree with me on that point. I went on to get an A- in the technical drafting class that year and Mr. Rawls eventually went on in his faculty career to become Vice Principal of my high school. I did have my bad side though, fastest car in the west valley (1965 GTO) with a 6 pack and two speed tranny....0 to (I won't say) in low gear. But don't tell anyone my evil secret....or Wednesday cruise night in the 70's on Van Nuys Boulevard, some historic event that doesn't occur anymore. Oh well, your blog jarred my good old days of a different era long gone. P.S., I'll keep watching, no matters what the fashions...

lisa, great blog! permit me please to compliment sebar on his telling us about his perceptions of the AMC Pacer. I too thought the Pacer was a visionary car of the future--that many new cars would emulate the pacer's enaabling driver's visibility. lisa, i did not have a mentor. and i am consciously dissapointed. knowing one is an underachiever can be frustrating. considering the possiblity that one's career path was on target at age 30, then situations change. fortunately i was not on a top floor of the world trade center in NY on 9-11. whoever your influences were in addition to the doc you mention in this blog, you are a fabulous woman. i'd like to be your friend! again, sebar-- i like what you've posted here.

cute pic lisa b. i can't notice a nose job either. you look exactly the same, but with a different shade of blonde and hairstyle. anyways. as for teachers....i had a few. each was great in different ways, and i thank them all. their was my math teacher mr. barham, who always helped me stay on track, and not be as he calls it a "knuckle head". then their is miss keefer, my drama teacher. we still keep in touch. she was just supportive. love her for that. then their is the other kueffer in my life. she was my science teacher. she pretty much pushed me to continue my education after high school which i did, and after i graduated i went to see her. prove that i did. which was a happy moment, until my friend had the bright idea of pulling the fire alarm. ugh, then i was totally red because of what he did. so uncool.

Lisa,

I have several teachers who made a big difference in my life, and back in 1995, one of them got featured on Fox 11 news for having 5 sets of twins in her kindergarten class at Clara J. King elementary in Cypress: Mrs. Ruth Allen, who had been teaching for 35 years back in '95. I had Mrs. Allen in the 1968-69 school year at Mackay Elementary in Cypress (closed in 1980). In fact, I will give plenty of credit to those teachers who taught at Mackay Elementary in Cypress for all the hard work they did to shape the lives of everyone they had as students. I believe Christina Gonzalez interviewed Mrs. Allen about the 5 sets of twins who are now college age adults. I could go on with more, but I don't want to be a "blog hog", if you know what I mean. One more teacher had an influence on me, and she teaches now at Arnold Elementary in Cypress: Mrs. Mariannne Lamb, who was a young roving music teacher just starting out in the early 1970s. She had gotten a teacher of the year award back in the early 1990s out of all the eligible school teachers in California. I appreciate music to this day, thanks to her beginning influences.

Lisa, thanks again for this blog, and I hope you, your husband, and twins have a great Memorial Day!

Hi Lisa,
Could one of your future blogs be on beauty secrets? I watched the show this morning and your skin is flawless. My absolutely favorite product is the clarisonic face brush. It's amazing!
oh, my most memorable teacher was Mr. Cox, third grade. He would always say "it is colder than a brass toilet seat". So at the end of the year the class bought a toilet seat and spray painted it. He kept it hanging on the classroom door. For some reason I have never forgotten this.

Great picture. 83 huh, thats when I was born, but I don't mean to make you feel "old" because your not, your beautiful and talented. I had an amazing teacher by the name of Laurel Byrd, she was my Humanities teacher, my senior year (2001) at Hemet High, in obviosly Hemet. She traveled the world, had amazing stories and infanent wisdom (as you can tell my spelling tacher failed terribly). I tried to stay in touch, (a couple of lunches) but did not do as well as you. This being a small town, I know she and her husband are moving out of state.

Teachers are very important figures in our lives, and it is sad to have to always focus on the bad ones who abuse thier roles.

Thank you for sharing! Get on Steve.....no blog in a long while...Busted! -o- and please tell him thank you for reconizing my wedding on air, unfortunitly I missed it, don't know how to find it.

has any body heard any thing about the 90210 reunion, or the revival of the show. I think that's going to be kind of funny, because they all look so different than they did back then. I wonder if Tori Spelling and Shannon doherty will fight like they used to in the original show. Shannon will probably black her eyes shut. didn't Tori's Billionaire father produce that and like ten other shows.

I go to Newbury Park Adventist Academy. Dr. Crook is the greatest principal. He is amazing and I'm glad you featured him!
