"Pete Seeger: The Power of Song"

Go and see this movie!!!!! I saw it this weekend at the Laemmle theater on Wilshire.

WOW! Rarely does a documentary move me the way this one did. I initially agreed to see the movie because it was about the man that inspired Bruce Springsteen to record the album 'We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions.'

I came out of the theater with a new found love of the banjo and Folk Music. More importantly, I came away with a new sense of hope and inspiration.

In today's society where children often emulate the latest pop-culture celebrity,
Pete Seeger is a true role model.  An amazing musician who believes the power of song can make a difference and effect change in our families, communities and our world.

Seeger has been at the forefront of the labor movement, the struggle for Civil Rights, the peace and anti-war movements, and the fight for a clean world. He has been a beacon for hope for millions of people all over the world. Once blacklisted from national television for being unafraid to voice his opinions, he was given the nation's highest artistic honors at the Kennedy Center in December 1994.

This 90 minute documentary is a powerful, inspiring and entertaining story of an ordinary man, who is everything but ordinary. I hope I can meet him one day near the Hudson River Valley where he still lives.

Let me know how you like it. I would love to hear about your experience.

Maria,

If I see this movie advertised anywhere in Orange County, I will be sure to post a follow up on your blog with a review to go with it. Pete Seeger played an enormous part in shaping pop music to what it is today...I even remember seeing him back in the early 70s on Sesame Street. Pete Seeger had a heart for education, along with music.

Thanks again for the heads up!

Oh by the way Maria,

Early this summer, I was at the Anaheim Covention Center for an Infocomm conference, when I ran across some people from Hawaii...when I mentioned that you were working for My13 news and Fox 11 news, they said they really miss seeing you on air in Hawaii. We Southern Californians are blessed having you on air!

Hmmm, very interesting you discovered the Banjo...very cool. Oh by the way Maria, does mister seeger also protest against war in countries like North Vietnam, North Korea, Venezuela, Iran and Syria.? How about China?

I see, so he only lays a guilt trip on Americans but not on the other bad countries in the world. He's a Commie, wake up!

LOL'S, I reckon every PATRIOT that takes a stand get's alotta flack from the peanut gallery, LOL'S. I was not aware that we were at war with Venezuala, Iran or Syria. I am kinda of the mind that maybe we should take care of the 2 front war we have going as it is.
Pete Seeger is an "old school Patriot". I have alot of respect fer anyone who takes a stand, LOL'S, taking a stand means, "WoW, I reckon the Honey-Bucket truck is on the way to dowse me with sweet smelling praises and accolades of my stand for or against something. Bein attacked by the PATRIOT-IC (fanat-ic comes to mind) folks of our country is like the Dixie Chicks taking a stand against a war built upon lies and catching an ugly amount of crap fer taking a stand against FACIST/Elitest thinking? And FAULTY INTELLIGENCE.
wonder what, where and why there is no longer much in the way of Accountability concerning the present administration?????

By the way Maria, I was wondering if you had seen the documentary "OUTFOXED: Rupert Murdochs War on Journalisim" ? And if so, what you happened to think of it? Or is it true, that to have an opinion (public) apart from the given party line of Murdoch (at least one that will get airtime) would end yer career at Fox?

Uh stan you should honestly listen to Dr. Savage and others who are speaking the truth. As for my own comments, before seeger goes out stifling this country, like I suggested maybe he should go shoot his big mouth off in those other foreign countries on the list I posted here. After all he is against tyranny and wants free speech and peace, let us see how long they will let him live with his free speech and peace there talking against those countries. In fact the entire peace movement should take a jet flight to each of those countries demanding those governments give in to peace and freedom. I'll bet you know the outcome.

Oh yes, Maria,

Mark said he was going to do a soldier dance while you are on vacation...I'll rate it from a scale of 1 to 100 (100 being extremely hilarious). And Lauren is supposedly going to be doing it with him, according to Mark.

Oh yes, Kimchi is our version of comfort food, isn't it...Or at least an appetizer! (remember that comment a few years ago from Jeff Michael about kimchi?)

Happy Thanksgiving!
