I just saw the R rated movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall".  It was hilarious!

But while I was watching this movie, I was suddenly horrified! Not at the sexually explicit language, nudity or numerous sex scenes (all quite funny by the way), but at the sight of
a LITTLE KID sitting in front of me. He was sitting next to, who I think, was his mother!
Can you believe it?!!!

This little boy must not have been older than 10 years old. This movie is rated R!!!! Don't parents know what an R rating is? An R-rated motion picture may include adult themes, adult activity, hard language, intense or persistent violence, sexually-oriented nudity, drug abuse or other elements...so parents are counseled to take this rating very seriously. Generally, it is not appropriate for parents to bring their young children with them to R-rated motion pictures.

I was really appalled at this parent! She was laughing throughout the movie without a care for what this young boy might be thinking. He certainly wasn't laughing. I can only imagine what kind of impression it must have left on him.

With parents like the one I saw in the theater, it's no wonder we have so many socially and sexually dysfunctional individuals in this world!

Not surprised. Remember when Conan the Barbarian first came out in theaters? A man in the theater I attended brought his 8 year old son to the movie with him. Conan is nothing but sex and violence and definitely not appropriate for young children. Fast forward to 2008 and Vanity Fair just published a sexually alluring photo of a 15 year old girl and doesn't think is qualifies as child porn. High fashion shows have 14 year old runway models wearing clothes with cleavage so low their teenage breast are visible. I have even heard radio commentators defending the Texas polygamy perverts. It is ok for 50 year old men to marry 14 year old girls?

Hi Maria:
I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, we see things like this and worse on the news, like the animal who gave a gun and drugs to his child to make a home video to show to friends.

Hey Maria if you think that's bad, what about parents who play X-rated DVD's in their minivan while driving with kids able to glimpse the action. You see, here is my point. This morning Jillian was doing the weather and a wind sock came up on the screen and she sexualized it. She immediately sexualized a wind sock and did this repeatedly with her boob cleavage showing to young children who at 7am in the morning might have been getting ready for work, and then Jillian did some sex talk or insinuations further egged on by Steve. I mean, don't the producers of the show have any shame, and you wonder why you saw the bad part. Just look where it starts on public tv, on your very station, so please don't act so surprised about what is going on, because it has to start somewhere and FOX is no angel for allowing their sexualization of their morning show.

As far as the movie theater report them to child welfare services for allowing the law to be broken. That's about as much as you can do, besides asking the producers to stop allowing FOX to sexualize an early morning show visible to kids...good luck!

Since when do young children get ready for work at 7:00 am? Parents are way too busy in the morning to sit with their kids and analyze GDLA. I guarantee you most televisions are off to eliminate distractions. It is a shame that parents cannot entertain their children with more positive activities.

It's cheaper than hiring a baby-sitter.

GDLA has always been trashy. What else is new.

Maria,

I certainly agree with you...a young kid seeing an R-rated movie? Is that parent or guardian a NUTJOB? In one sense, I hope that lady wasn't the kid's mother, but an aunt instead...now what would that kid's father be thinking? I hope he knows about it, and gets furious!

Actually, you won't fix it by fixing the parent, you need to fine the theater owners bigtime and spread the word that they are liable. That will fix it very fast, and also let the employees know they can be legally liable too. Again that will fix the issue fast. Of course when you have parents that put their kids into more adult situations like one tv mother did this morning, that just shows the degradation of society as a whole. If parents didn't act so LOOSEEE with their children, the problem wouldn't exist.

my parents always showed me r-rated films. never had any effects on me. but mostly the r-rated films were action films/horror. so i dont see anything wrong with watching "the terminator", "total recall", or "night of the living dead". i mean, so i saw a chick with 3 breast in total recall, what's the big deal?? i have to admit night of the living dead did give me nightmares for a while, mostly because where i lived at was a spooky place, but i'm totally fine. hell i let my lil step bro watch "300", and the nc 17 rated "robocop". he's totally fine. all that went through his mind was "wow, BLEEP, and i expected more blood". other then that, he's fine. not like me or my step bro are gonna go out there and start shooting people up with ak-47's. but my parents never watch comedies with lots of sex, just bloody action films, so who knows what the effect would be, other then the kid not getting most of the jokes and finding the movie dull.

I think judging by appearances is just that, judging by appearances.

Kid's watch R rated movies... x and xxx rated movies without the parents presence or knowledge.

I remember my sister sneaking me out to the drive-in and watching "Fritz the Cat"... sis pushing my head down at parts... Mom was a single parent and I remember going to watch "Blazing Saddles" with her and thinking she felt a little guilty for having taken me... I was 10 years old. I remember laughing at the "Is it twu what they say about black men? (zip...)Oh it's twu it's twu!" But I don't think I really understood it at the time.

In my view it all depends on the child, the parent and their relationship. Just like Dorothy taking her kid to AI.

Maria,
you work for Fox!! Bringing a kid to an R-rated movie is not "exactly" unlike sitting a child in front of the television and tuning into Fox.

I had the same experience when I went to see scary movie 2. I found it disturbing, but I see so much more of this type of thing at work too. Whaddayagonnado?
