The U.S. Government should NOT . ..worry about this environmental, conservation thing…

I mean paying lip service to the issues surrounding preserving the environment is a much better strategy and a whole lot cheaper than trying to reinstitute a real clean air or water act or acting responsibly or in a breakthrough way as a nation when it comes to energy conservation.

We have a right to live the way we want here in the U.S. This is a country that does what it wants when it wants and that’s reflected in our energy and environmental policies as a nation…yah, that’s right…

Heck, our bloated lifestyle, which is clearly the coolest, most fun lifestyle on the planet can continue while we make the environment and energy consumption other people’s problems. If they were as cool as we are they would drive huge cars, relax emission standards and deadlines for gas mileage, throw away instead of recycle and live here in the U.S. like we do right?

I mean really, isn’t this place planet earth put here by some divine being for us to exploit and squeeze the life out of so that we can get richer, more self-indulgent and less informed without having to worry about the consequences. What are the consequences anyway? Aren’t you gonna be dead? Yah, me too!!

What do we care whether we throw our cigarettes out the window or recycle that water bottle (which we now want to drink from ‘cause we don’t want to touch the tap water anymore).

And while I’m on the subject of water…Who cares if we put some stuff in the ground that then toxifies rivers. Aren’t there a bunch of rivers in this country. So eventually we’ll run out. I get it. But in the meantime, this is our crib man, and if we wanna go to the bathroom in the kitchen well that’s what we’ll do.

Hey that’s why we dumped radioactive waste from the Hanford Nuclear Power plant right IN the mighty Columbia river. So what if the fish there are radioactive and there are signs of that in the livestock nearby and the salmon population is way down and the food chain is contaminated with cancer causing toxins.

I know all that but I need power for my 52” plasma to run my high def receiver. Plus, can’t we find salmon and livestock elsewhere?

Put a memo out saying where the polluted stuff is and we’ll avoid it as best we can.

I mean it’s going to be so polluted here on earth soon that we won’t be able to live healthily anyway. So why not just dump our stuff where we want and lift more of the regulations on these big companies... most are going to other countries anyway to avoid what few environmental restrictions still exist here.

We want them to do business HERE so that we can make some more money and jobs here in this country, which from what I hear, has more money issues than a shopoholic housewife at Pottery Barn with the family credit card.

We, meaning the U.S. government, have undone a lot of those environmental restrictions that have hindered corporate giants and have asked a lot of them to police themselves. There is still a bunch more to go.

Energy policies have slipped away from us and gas cannot get expensive enough for us to roll our consumption back so it would seem.

Do we possess the will as a country to change??  Well, we possess the power to change. We have to find the will to change. We have made monster changes in our political representation because of war policy and global strategy. Messages need to be sent to our political representatives and then we need to vote with our pocketbooks.

Change means caring about companies’ energy efficiency and it also means insisting on our own energy efficiency.

Together we can share the burden and make energy conservation and energy consumption as a country and as individuals the work of our every day life.

We ARE America and we can do anything we want. It’s time to start wanting.

"Aren’t you gonna be dead? Yah, me too!!" Dude. I nearly died laughing at that part. You, dear sir, have a fantastic way of making a point. Change won't be easy, cheap, or fun but that doesn't mean we don't have to do it.

Love the blogs, my gorgeous Mr Thompson. Keep 'em coming.

You know, I was listening to Michael Savage the other day and they are saying that cars running on sugar in Brazil actually pollute more than gasoline based cars running oil based products. I also heard this from someone else, but it escapes me right now. If this State wanted to fix things tell ya what. Give each homeowner a cheap rebate to install solar panels on the cheap. A few billion bucks in this State and almost every home contributing power to the grid and there is cheap energy. Water issues, easy. Build several desalination plants along the coast. Pump desalinated water inland and we could even have several states come in on this. With 12,000 miles of ocean off our coast we can easily end drought for good.

The problem is like you said Mark, its all lip service by many who are trying to seize power but care a squat about fixing the real issues. I have my big white Lincoln Towncar "Bush 12" and I love it, even with Kevlar padding too...lol! A real necessity in the L.A. area. Scientists are refuting easily Gore's global warming BS. The facts are that we are heading longterm on the downslide into an ice age. This has scientifically been born out. Mankind cannot alter the atmosphere by the current pollution. Mankind's contribution is less than 1.3% worldwide. What causes the issues at hand of warming and cooling is the sun and that is it. Icebergs break off the poles warm and than they cool again. That is a fact too. As far as energy goes we could start drilling our own oil all over the place. We can also convert coal to gasoline and diesel fuel too. The Germans figu

We need to start electing leaders that won't be paying lip service to these types of issues. But good luck there.

Yeah my friend, its a sad situation when a bunch of 60's radical hippies and beatniks are destroying this republic and democracy for their own personal cash cows rather than fixing the real issues.

Big money has corrupted this great country. The majority of Federal Government officials have sold this country down the tube for one special interest or another. Until you fix that you will never get much right.

What we need is Lauren Sanchez energy theories. If we had that same energy we would solve the nation's (wink, wink) energy problems.

Hello Mark,

Let’s go back about 20 years. I believe it was 1987 in Northern California when we dubbed you the “Weather Guy” and see if you can remember me and the conversation we had. At the time you were dating one of my roommates from Lake Tahoe. M. was a great girl and a real cutie. My brother and I (two long haired hippie tree huggers) stayed at your house that night in preparation for going to the Renaissance Fair the following day in Marin. I even slept on your couch. We were sitting on your couch that night and I was asking you how the devastation of the Rain Forest in South America and around the Globe might effect the weather worldwide. You acknowledged that anything going into our atmosphere could have an effect on weather patterns. You then mentioned that scientists had just found a hole in the ozone and it too could have an effect. At that time no one had even heard of Global Warming. You were 20 years ahead of the pack my friend. It is great to see that you still have your twisted sense of humor. After about 15 years in Hawaii, I have been in Southern California the last couple of years and have become a fan of Mark the Weather Guy. Thanks for putting the fair and balanced into FOX weather network.

While you are at it tell Maria Q. that The Environmental Artist Apollo from Hawaii says Aloha. We had the pleasure of doing Fund Raisers together for the Honolulu Zoo and their annual Fun Run. I did their Fun Run T-shirts for several years. FOX NEWS Hawaii was one of our sponsors.

Keep up the Great work. By the way Love Thompson’s Tails.

Mark
Thank you for your comment on the NFL, "Vick" and dog abuse situation. You were "spot on". If the NFL doesn't ban him for life, we should all give up watching the game in protest... whats next?... a football player getting away with murder?... oh wait, errr, uh, never mind.
Mark, I respect you for caring about the critters the way you do. You are a good man.

I will no long watch Good Day L.A. as long as Mark Thompson is still in for Steve. I did not care for his remarks on the Mike Vick story after the clip of Mr. Vicks grandfather was ran. Mr. Thompson said after the clip (well that is the way life works) after Mr. Vicks grandfather said that his grandson has done good things for people. No that is not the way like works Mr. Thompson. In the USA we forgive people everyday. A good newsman should never let how he fells about a story come out like that and even if what Mr. Vick did was wrong he has owned up to it and the laws will take care of him. I am a Mike Vick fan and I have seen some of the good things that this man has done. People have done far worst thing in this world and they walk free and we don’t say anything and this man made a mistake (like we all have) and Mr. Thompson said that is the (way life works). Well Mr. Thompson that is not the way of people who believe in God works. Mr. Vick will do his time and he may or may not play in the NFL again, but as a man who believes in God I have and will for give him because I am a human. In closing the only thing I have to say to Mr. Thompson is (we who live in a glass house should not throw stone).

Again Mark's comments are correct on the "vick" story. That is "how life works". Mark, Stay true to who you are. You have honor and decency on your side.

I'm sure there are those who might have thought that comment a bit much, but Michael Vick is a man who did not respond honorably when asked whether he was involved in this dog fighting ring and the TORTURE AND BRUTAL KILLING OF DOGS. HE LIED. He said he did not do it. Only when he was caught with nowhere to run did he admit it and begin the apology.
I'm sure as a fan and if I was his Grandfather I would say what was said but you all know the truth. Perhaps he will change, but right now he hasn't changed a bit yet and that is the way life works. If you something immoral, anybody, you deserve to be caught. Once in awhile I will not allow the apologist for heinous acts to carry the day without a response.

I was watching that morning when Mark Thompson made inappropriate comments during his reporting of Michael Vick’s story. I think all of us hate when someone is cruel to animals, but as a news reporter, Mark’s comment was inappropriate. A news clip of Michael Vick's grandfather was shown and after the clip, Mark made disrespectful and inappropriate comments about the clip. OK, Michael Vick is scum, if he did what is being reported, but news reporters suppose to be professional and non-bias when reporting the news. Michael Vick's grandfather had nothing to do with his dog fighting; therefore it was inappropriate to disrespect him in that manner. This shows what an amateur Mark is as a news reporter regardless of his year’s experience. Seem like Fox could have find someone better to fill in for Steve.

I did see the report where Mark made the comment "that's how life works" I see nothing disrespectful, to vick or his Grandpa. He was simply stating that when someone... anyone, does something horrible, that is what becomes most prominent in the eyes of those who are aware of the horrible thing that was done. That IS how life works, and for Mark to speak up and show that he has a heart filled with compassion for the innocent animals demonstrates that he is a man with honor and dignity in his soul. (NOT at all like vick, who I am not sure has a soul, based on his actions and choices.)
So to those Mark bashers out there... please don't watch GDLA, it seems to be above your head any way, and there is no need for you to take the time to blog about it either, you are wasting your time and ours.
Mark stay strong... YOU ARE A GOOD MAN. Don't let the idiots get you down. What you said was correct and perfect for this situation. No disrespect was projected in anything that I have heard you say or blog about on this subject. Keep being you. Most people agree with you and you have their support.
It looks like keelee23 is in a glass house filled with stones and no grammar/spell check.
Who in their right mind would try to defend vick with the "God" card... people who don't understand God! God created the animals that vick tortured and destroyed the body & souls of! How do you use your God to defend that?
