I was sitting next to a brain surgeon the other night and he told me something that could potentially be kind of important so I want to share it with you, my web and Fox11 family.

How am I sitting next to a brain surgeon? Well, l should tell you that I was playing poker, an activity that I do not really recommend if you have an addictive personality or tend not to be able to budget both time and money...unless of course you have unlimited time and money :)

Still, with that caveat, I would tell you that at the poker table I meet some of the coolest people from all around the world, with backgrounds that are as varied as the human DNA.

I should also quickly add that the I play in legal games, at card clubs like Hollywood Park or Commerce Casino here in California.

So as I sat there the other night, my cell phone went off and I quickly put it to my ear to answer and have a brief conversation. After I hung up, the guy next to me told me something that I wanted to tell you.

He told me that he's a brain surgeon who opens up people's heads all the time to treat and remove brain tumors. He went on to tell me that while he has no "clinical evidence", as in a published study that shows direct correlation, his personal experience is overwhelming in indicating the following: Tumors over the last decade show up on the corresponding side of the head that a person favors in holding the cell phone. If they hold it up to their right ear, that's usually where the tumor shows up.

I asked him why he cannot go on record with this and he explained it's simply anecdotal evidence. It's what HE and many of his colleagues have noticed. There's no real proof. But he feels strongly that there is a relationship between holding the phone to your head and increasing the likelihood of cancer growth.

How about the Bluetooth headsets? He didn't like those either. He feels the hard line headsets are the only way to go.

If he's right, I'm glad I could pass it on to you.

Maybe all those hours and money down the drain yielded some information that might help you and me both.

Now, if someone would tell me how to just get calls from people I want to hear from....    ;)

Silly Mark, look at your phone before you answer it. If it says "unavailable" don't answer it, or "crazy redheaded ex-girlfriend" don't answer it, it's like caller i.d. only mobile. Anywho, didn't we hear about the tumor warning 10 years ago when cell phones were the size of an iron? Do we now have a gambling, drunken neurosurgeon who will concur this is a real problem?? I say send Nichelle out to get the real story.

Once upon a time, I collected urine samples from people who broke the law. I got so good at it that I could tell who peed dirty just by its cloudy nature.

yeah, i have heard about that whole tumor thing along time ago. that's why i don't use cell phones. i'm guessing it's the radiation that it sends out that's messing all up. i also heard that i-pods also send out radiation too, and most people are gonna have heart problems because of it. but that's only because we keep them close to our chest area. we're all gonna turn out to be like those freaks in the movie "the hills have eyes" in the near future.

My female training partner complimented a guy in the gym for losing weight. He replied...

Yea, I just had a 10 pound circumcision.

I remember hearing that if guys put their cell phone in their front pocket they can become sterile. So in essence, there will be tumored-sterile dudes with heart problems in the future! Can we eat chocolate now??

Interesting tidbit... oh, dear! I do wear a Bluetooth headset too. I'll guess I'll have a brain tumor down the line on my right side huh? Then again, I've long accepted that I'm gonna die someday from something. So I'm darn well am going for that extra dark Schafenberger chocolate!!! :-P~~

OClee: They (as in several articles I've read) say now that in moderate amounts, dark chocolate is actually healthy for 'ya now. Milk chocolate is still bad though. (More reason for that Schanfenberger extra dark for me!!!)

Now, Mark... you're complaining on the last blog entry about not getting a freebie on a lost card pass and then I read on the VERY NEXT blog that you're gambling your money away on poker?!?!? Hmmmm??? Doncha think that it makes me less sympathetic about not giving you a free pass? (Jazzpants gives Mark a stern look, before breaking into a :-P )

Oh, and I saw the "Mark Thompson shuffle" on YouTube, BTW. When I stop laughing I'll tell 'ya what I think of it.... ROFLMAO!!!

Much love to 'ya!

Beep - I wish answering machines were never invented. Technology is a stressor because everthing has to be faster, better, etc. What happened to the good ole days when if you were out, you weren't available? Now even my car has a telephone number. What...is a hot raised pick-up going to call her and ask her when she's due for a lube? As far as tripods go, enjoy it while you have it.

Jazz - So if I prefer milk chocolate am I screwed or can I offset that with red wine?

Mark can dance, he's hot. So are we having an el nino or not dude?

OClee: Here's the link to the benefits of dark chocolate.

http://longevity.about.com/od/lifelongnutrition/p/choco
late.htm

You won't be screwed having milk chocolate (or any chocolate unless you're eating the ENTIRE 3oz. bar in one sitting. But you won't get the antioxidant benefits... in fact, not much of anything other than empty calories and fats! Not worth it, IMHO.

BTW: I usually have my cell phone OFF... so I have MY version of the "when I'm out, I'm not available" rule. ;-)

Cheers,
J, who thinks Mark's dance on Ch. 13 is cute. ;-)

Mark,

About the cell phone brain tumor thing: I have heard about that through a doctor who has a show on KBRT AM 740. His name is Dr. Bob Marshall, and his show airs 9:00 A.M. on Saturday mornings. I first heard about it back in 1998, and Dr. Marshall has something for protecting you from radiation...I haven't heard him speak about the product for a while, but I know there is something in the marketplace.

Now, depending on the carrier and phone maker and model, caller ID will help you screen calls. If you have names and numbers stored away, the phone will usually identify the caller if the caller is calling from the phone number stored away. For example, if your girlfriend calls you from her cell phone, and you have her number programmed into your cell phone, it should show up when your phone rings.

So Mark, I look forward to watching you do your Rudy Giuliani and wife routine when you fill in for Maria one night near some election time!
