I havent gotten to watch the news alot lately.  The price of gas, and taxes, and insurance, etc...  I have had to work alot more hours and have missed a lot.  So I got online to check out some local news and I see a story about a 7 year old girl hit by a car at 930PM.  No charges have been filed.  Well if they decide to file some i would say lets start with the parents.  That might be a little cruel and unsual so maybe they dont need charges filed against them.  Maybe the dead child is enough.  Someone please tell me though,  why would a child of the age of 7 be playing in the street at 930pm?  ANYONE???  I remember having to be inside when the street lights came on.  Does that not apply anymore.  What is going on?

...I agree with your sentiment of it being a parents responsibility to make sure their child is safe, and the child shouldn't have been in a position of danger, in the street, to begin with, but it's stories like this that make people demand the government do something, and the last thing we need, in my opinion, is government involvement in the parenting process.

...Tragedies happen everyday, and people are quick to call on government to fix all of the problems of life, but it's a dangerous path to travel down when we hand over authority, and responsibility to the state.

...If negligence was the issue here, it should be pursued legally, but a rush of judgment should be avoided, and the circumstances should be detailed by the current legal process before public opinion is put forth by any media, or individual.

Mikey, it really is pretty sad for a 7 year old to be put in this positions. Makes you wonder how something so obvious, could be so NEGLECTED.... I just have to ask 1. Where is plain old common sense? 2. Where are the priorities?

Also, since I don't know the entire story yet... I will bring up in fairness, perhaps, the child got out accidently.... I feel this is probably unlikely, but I agree with ChAng, and don't want to rush to any early conclusion.

I hope this isn't one of those stories they blast on the news and then NEVER do a follow up story to REVEAL ALL the facts....
