Here's a bit:

"Troops arriving home from Iraq and Afghanistan have been carrying a mysterious, deadly bacteria, according to a new magazine report.

Doctors have linked the bacterium acinetobacter baumannii to at least seven deaths, as well as to loss of limbs and other severe ailments, according to the report, which found the bacterium has spread quickly since the war in Afghanistan began in the fall of 2001"

Like our Troops and their families haven't suffered enough.

PLEASE do not disrespect our heroes by talking about "how they suffer" . You may or may not realize that (at least the Marines) they DO NOT WANT YOUR PITY, they enlist and re enlist to do what they love to do and what they are trained to do and, for the most part, have no regrets. The families willingly (for the most part) make sacrafices because they are PROUD of their Marines and their mission.

No disrecpect intended, but for all of the well meaning folks who "pity" them or "wish them home", what they would really rather have is a simple "thank you for your service and sacrifice".. and, frankly, usually they are too humble for even that much, to them they are just doing their job, a job which they do willingly and a job which they love... that is what makes the grunts so special

Okay, sorry, I will get off my high horse now, I think I gave myself a nosebleed.. but, really, when you get a minute, read some of the posts on my blogs from some of our Marines. The reality is it is only a small sampling of "all" of the armed forces but 2 years and 60 units later, I have NEVER come across an OIF or OEF vet whether injured or not who says "I wish I would have never enlisted"

Just some food for thought

I guess I should have worded my response more carefully? I don't pity our Troops. They signed up.

It just stinks that on top of all they have had to endure, a deadly germ is thrown into the mix. Like DU isn't bad enough?

YankeeFan, we all get on our high horses now and again. No biggie.

I also agree that those who are in the service (for the most part) want to be there. That's why it's so important for their butts to be covered before they ever leave our shores. I think we all know that hasn't happened with this administration.

Please do not confuse my distaste for this administration w/any denigration of our Troops. I have both family and friends in the military. Active and retired. It's personal for me too.

...YankeeFan, you are not the sole authority on who one can pity. Ones pity is theirs to give freely and you aren't the poster boy for the army, nor their spokesman.

...Seven deaths from a mysterious bacterial infection is frightening, and should be regarded as another travesty of this senseless war.

...YF, What you don't seem to understand is people who want to have the troops home are thinking about the troops safety, our countries economic security, and in turn, our national defense.

...This war is bankrupting our nation and destabilizing the world. I in no way support the war, but I support each individuals decision to sign up, yet I don't think it's doing anything more then perpetuating an already bad situation.

...I understand the troops feel they must justify their being there for their own piece of mind, but when it comes down to it, they know they're not fighting for our freedoms.

...You might believe your own BS but it makes me ill to see you propagating intimidation, saying if you don't support the war then you don't support the troops, it's a simplistic argument that attempts to polarize the issue, either you're with us or you're with the terrorists, and I'll oppose that crap till my last breath.

YankeeFan, dignify away. It's a discussion board. I don't mind you responding to chAng's points.

chAng, it is frightening. Another thing you never heard about is Depleted Uranium. DU is infecting our Troops and civilians. I have seen pictures of children born from DU and that is scary as hell. But, I guess if DU's real effects were in the msm, panic would ensue?

DU messes w/DNA. Our Troops will have long-lasting effects. I wonder if our Troops will be denied benefits in much the same way Agent Orange was a figment of the imagination?

I wish our government would treat our Troops (all of them) better. It seems at times they would prefer they just died on the battlefield so it doesn't cost as much. What the heck does that say? Lots & none good. How many Vietnam Vets are still being denied benefits? Too many. It is absolutely disgusting.

drated typo. I meant to say 'another thing you never 'hear' about'. Not "heard".

Tho, I wonder how many people have never heard of DU or it's lasting effects?

More than that know the winner of American Idol? *cheap cop from chAng's thread of this morning ;)
