I saw on the 6 pm news that the authorities are going to go after credit card companies that solicit business on campus. The report says that students can "sign up" for a free pizza or sandwich by filling out a credit app.  One young lady on camera says she now owes 5000.00, "just for signing up for a pizza". I am sure that credit card went shopping all by itself. These are COLLEGE students, not elementary students! It takes a certain amount of intelligence just to attend college. Sorry, but I have no pity for them. I guess this is what's called "The school of hard knocks" -or- "What's a matta U"

I agree with your point in many ways, however, I must say that most college students, while in college with SOME alleged intelligence, are like kids in a candy store when it comes to stuff like this.... OOOH! Free stuff! And, wow! I get a credit card to shop, shop! These kids aren't seasoned enough in life to realize the consequences.

Yeah, sure, the parents should have taught them better, but hey, these are also kids who spend most of their free time partying the nights away while away at college, too, right? One can be intelligent, but oh so dumb at the same time.

A lot of young adults fall prey to credit card debt. Pretty sad to mess up so early. But on the flip side if they are going to mess up do it early so you have time to recover. I taught my children all about credit cards, banking, saving etc. They seemed to understand. But to my surprise they all got into major debt upon moving out! What? Everything I thought I taught them was erased from there memories. Well needless to say each and every one had to climb out of the hole they created. Not fun for them. But hopefully they learned a valuable lesson, and if not, shame on them!
