In Phoenix, Arizona the mayor and the police chief are at odds with one another over illegal immigration. In fact, the mayor is so upset with the crackdown on illegal immigrants that he has asked the FBI to investigate whether the county sheriff has violated any civil rights laws. He makes no mention, however, about the laws that were broken by the illegals who came to this country. The crimes committed by the soldiers of the Mexican invasion don't seem to bother Mayor Phil Gordon.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio believes that mayor is completely disconnected from the people he represents. My guess is that the Sheriff has this one right. So now the Mayor is going to Washington to try and turn the public against the raids. The Arizona Ecumenical Council and American Jewish Committee have determined that the sheriff's patrols are evoking a "police state atmosphere" and detaining people on the basis of a racial profile and dehumanizing innocent people.

God forbid we should ever try to enforce the laws in this country.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT DUI

Sara Cole is a mother of four, living out in California. Not too long ago, Sara was unloading a bicycle from her car near the Los Gatos Little League field when along came Lucio Rodriguez. Lucio Rodriguez was driving with a blood alcohol level of .16. He also happens to be an illegal immigrant. I know ... you're shocked.

Now I don't have to tell you the rest of the story ...Rodriguez has pleaded guilty to felony drunken driving, causing great bodily injury, felony hit and run and driving with a suspended license. Sara Cole, the victim of the hit and run, is lucky if she is sitting in a wheelchair – her legs were crushed in the accident.

So Lucio Rodriguez is sent to jail for five years. But guess what? It turns out that this was not his first DUI. This was his second DUI in less than two years. So now we have an illegal immigrant, driving without a valid license (obviously), who is drunk, gets into an accident, flees from the scene, and then we find out that this isn't the first time. My question is, what in the hell is this guy still doing in the United States? And why wasn't his butt immediately kicked across back the border?

So here's the real kicker. First of all, if you read the article you will find that the author is completely sympathetic to the illegal immigrant ... but that is beside the point. The point is that even when the police arrest an illegal immigrant for DUI, they don't report the person to ICE. So a bill was created called "Sara's Law." That law would require police to report illegal immigrants to immigration if they are convicted of a DUI. If you are an illegal and think you can drink and drive in this country, you will be deported.

Well it should make you feel all warm and fuzzy to know that the state assembly public safety committee has voted against "Sara's Law". This is, after all, California .. or, as it is becoming known, Mexifornia.
