Well the pseudo-environmentalists have done it. The Bush administration has caved. The Secretary of the Interior has officially announced that he will list the polar pear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. This means that the polar bears get all kinds of new protections under the law.

But remember ... this is not about the polar bear. The polar bears are just a symbol. Just take a look at this quote from John Kostyack, the executive director of conservation and global warming at the National Wildlife Federation. He says, "This administration is finally acknowledging the gravity of global warming, apparently. And now we can start getting to work in passing comprehensive global warming legislation."

This is exactly what the critics have been saying. The polar bears are just a stepping stone to using the Endangered Species Act as a means of regulating greenhouse gas emissions.

They are doing this in spite of the fact that there are more polar bears today than there were in the 1970s. A lot more. In fact, there are 20,000 more polar bears today than in 1972. But that's not what these pseudo-environmentalists really care about, is it?

By the way .. the polar bear population in the Arctic is growing.

WELL THAT DIDN'T TAKE LONG

Conservation groups are already back in the courts to save the polar bear ... at least, that is their cover story. The real issue here has to do with stifling capitalism using the environmental movement as an excuse. And it's hard for some people to say no to the warm and fuzzy (not to mention mean as hell) polar bears. So the environmentalists are saying that the federal officials' refusal to include steps against global warming violates the Endangered Species Act.

Gee, nobody saw this one coming. Well ... not nobody. I saw it coming. How dense do these people really think we are? They are now saying that the administration's proposal "violates both logic and the law" because it does not address the primary threat to polar bears: global warming. In fact, environmentalists are upset that the polar bears were only listed as threatened. They really wanted them to be classified as endangered so that they could have even more power to regulate.

As of right now, the current proposal offers to increase polar bear research and to work with Canada to help polar bears survive in the wild. But this, as we already knew, is not enough for the environmental whack jobs. Who knows how long it will be until the administration caves. Or if we get Barack Obama in the White House, I'm sure there will be no animal that will be able to survive the threat of global warming without government protection.
