With all the negative things going on in the world today, I thought maybe we could share some positive things.  What do you strive to do that is a positive influence on others.  If you could change something that you feel is the most negative influence in the world today, what would it be??????

If I could change anything it would be to have communities or neighborhoods to be safe again for our children to play out their childhood dreams and fantasies. To be free to roller skate, stay out late on summer evenings to catch fireflies, for little boys to get with their pals and spend hours and hours in their treehouses by creeks and to explore and play games. To be able to walk to the corner ice cream shop for a cone...and hear their moms say. "be in before supper" I had that kind of childhood..I wish todays children could have it too.

I think the major problem in the world today is the lack of religious tolerance.

A lot of the violence around the world comes from one religion trying to force its views on another group of people who are not part of that religion.

Reasonable people can often manage to work out a compromise that results in a win-win solution. But once religion is involved there are many points that become non-negotiable.

This is the root of the troubles in the mid-east and unfortunately I also see an erosion of human rights right here in the USA as some folks try to impose their own religious views on the rest of the population.

Both Randy and Cranky make excellent points.
It's a shame people have gotten to the point where there is so much negativity going on in their lives and take care of their problems with aggression. It seems there has been a lot of news stories recently about people, both adults and children, who have killed their own families. I have to wonder how miserable these people must be to go to such extreme lengths and to feel as though they have nothing more to look forward to in life to wish to destroy themselves and those who they should be closest to.
We talk a lot about change and have heard a lot about in recent weeks from our Presidential candidates. If one person changes their life for the better, taking on a more positive prospective and moves away from the negativity that seems to surround us, perhaps that person can set an example to others to make similiar changes.
In this way, I would say being a positive example to others would go a long way towards making life something to look forward to.

Lots of good views posted here. Cranky, makes a great point about tolerance, but I believe tolerance goes beyond just religious bickering stuff. It seems to me, that people have just become so HATEFUL about everything. I see hateful responses in regards to everyday situations... Years ago people would have never acted that way. Think about how many times you see someone being rude and nasty in a line somewhere, on the phone, even if you just happen to bang into them accidently....

And whatever happened to patience??? People seem to lack patience. If you don't move fast enough or are unable because of health limitations, it seems like they'd rather mow you over than wait.... No one seems to take just a second to evalute and consider anything beyond themselves. I see people constantly impatient and intolerant of children, including their own. Whats up with that. Is it just easier to respond in a hateful way, than take a few moments to explain something to a child so they can understand. Then we wonder why children respond to people in a hateful mean spirited way............

My grandma always use to tell me kindness never hurts, but hateful words and actions always do!!

Pastor, I think alot of this has to do with people having the wrong focus in life. They are so focused on "stuff" and on "money" that they are just not focused on the reality of life or on thinking about others or the impact they are having on other people.
People seem to be focused on a single object, for instance a new video game or on getting tickets to a popular concert. They have this one thing in mind and just don't see anything else. When it comes down to doing anything to gain an object, including pushing others aside or even going so far as murder, they should step back and look over their objectives very carefully and change their outlook towards what's important in life.
Faith, trust, hope and charity are taking a back seat to SUVs, cell phones and big screen TVs and the push to keep up with the Jones's. It's a real shame because there's no happiness in objects but there is happiness in faith hope and love.

I think people are rude instead of positive because when you try to be positive, your pushed into being negative. I mean you give to your church to see your pastor living in a better house then you do, with a new car, and you think to yourself, wow, i work very hard for my money and i can barely afford to keep food in the house. So you go and get a job for more money, but for the money, less time with the family. So you get you try to better your education, for a better job, to spend more time with the family, and the cost goes up. now you have to make more to pay for what you where doing to be positive. I am usually rude because i am in a bad mood. Everytime i think i get ahead, more is taken away. Take away money and religion and i think everyone would be more positive.

Gee Mikey, very valid point.. It is a pretty sad state when a lot of people these days fall in the same catagory. I don't personally draw a salary, I work as a volunteer unpaid Pastor and I have to admit that I really get P.O.'d with all these T.V, Evangelistic type preachers pushing there Prosperity driven message. Lining their pockets as their members struggle. Don't worry they may get away with it here on earth, but God, No matter which God you believe in, is going to get them for it.....

I just believe we are all accountable down the line ...somewhere--- somehow---

Take care my friend, and try not to let the negative crappola bring you down!

Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s” (Matthew 22:21).

It always comes back to money and taxes. it's the government who prints money and passes it out amongst the people. We should remember that the money we carry around in our pockets doesn't belong to us but to the government and we have to pay back some of it as taxes.
Money doesn't belong to God, nor is it a thing of God. It's what we use to exchange property or belongs with and is government controlled.
We should be focused less on money and more on being kind to others or giving ourselves towards making this world a better place to live in.

We volunteer. My daughter volunteers with veterans and I volunteer at an ALF/Nursing home. I also have my permit from the FWC for rescuing wildlife.

I would love to see the people who demand change actually come up with IDEAS for change.

I would love to see the death of the race/religious/creed card, but rather, value people on their own merits.

I would love to see a resurgence of some good manners, online and face to face and on the phone! (When was the last time someone called you and identified themselves rather than demanding toknow who YOU are???)

I would love for people to remember that their actions today could cause equal and opposite reactions tomorrow.

I would love to see kids being raised to be accountable and responsible for their actions, rather than growing up in a world where mama and daddy say "Oh, my child would NEVER do that!"

I would love to see a world where "I'm sorry" and "Please excuse me" can be meant sincerely.

I'd love to be able to be a public Christian again. I'm that woman who loudly and cheerfully proclaims Merry CHRISTMAS to one and all she meets. All year long I include GOD in the pledge of allegiance. The atheists have bigger issues to contend with than whether or not I publicly proclaim my faith in whatever way I choose.

I would consider myself a conservative republican, who gets annoyed with double standard positions. I am a childrens pastor so I am governed by a moral compass. I feel the world would be a better place if all people would be more mindful of implementing and acting in a moral way.
