You forgot to mention the Chinese...They have suffered in this country as well. I will say it again the African Americans need to get over it. And I agree with the pastor.

History doesn't bind us, but people bind themselves to it. Example, people in the middle east are still pissed off at Alexander the Great! That greek died in 323 BC! You will be hard pressed to separate a people from its past as is clearly evident today. The trick is to accept it and do like you said.....move on.

Thank you so much for enslaving us...SAVING us poor African HEATHEN souls who would be without water, food, and proper shelter if we hadn't been forced to come to America to be beaten, sold away from family members, killed, lynched, burned alive, boiled in oil, maimed, raped. starved, brainwashed, stripped, humliated, castrated, worked to death, etc. etc....

Given the alternative, I think I would have preferred my ancestors to live FREE in Africa searching for water, food, and shelter rather than the latter. Wouldn't you? If others who have been subjected to oppression because of their race or religion WILL NOT fight back, more power to them. Sorry, but WE WILL NEVER LET IT GO! Your ancestors should have thought about the prospect of retaliation when they had the audacity to think they were BETTER than we are or any OTHER race of people on this earth. God don't think so and neither do WE as a race of people. If an apology can get White America this bent out of shape, they haven't learned ANYTHING from their ancestor's past atrocities to mankind! And, the beat goes on and on...

Wow Onyx. Me too. We should round up ALL the white people in EVERY country and make them pay. It doesn't seem fair that only the white people in AMERICA pay.

I think what the majority of people are feeling on this blog is that enough is enough. How long are white people going to HAVE to apologize for the mistakes of other white people from more than 100 years ago? How much money and special programs are enough to satiate the appetites of the "woe is me" crowd?

I may be white, but my ancestors came from Poland long after slavery was abolished. I think it's sad that a race that clearly understands the sin of lumping all black (whether African American or Jamaican or whatever) would lump all white people together in the same manner as slave owning idiots.

Not all of our ancestors owned slaves. In fact, I would venture to guess that most white people living in America TODAY are a result of immigration and not descendants of slave owners.

Besides, It's just annoying being constantly hit up for money. I know this because of my white trash neighbors constantly coming over to ask for 5 bucks. You really should go ask them for reparations, their ancestors probably owned slaves. Oh, but you'll probably never get it from them since they're supported by "the system" you know, disability and food stamps and all that. Yet they can pay 900 a month for a 5 bedroom house.

It seems that the vast majority of "black" Americans have some "white" blood coursing through their veins @ Obama is Cheneys cousin....Jefferson sired several children with his slave lover...ect.

Therefore the only folks who are entitled to an "apology" are those who are not contaminated with "white" blood. You can't sue yourself.
I suspect the number is very small.

The real point is ....lots of stuff in the past is bad, some of it VERY bad, evil and unbelievable.
Bottom line .....we are AMERICANS first...anything which separates us as brother and sister AMERICANS is BAD. That's why I hate racists of any color. SHUT the hell up about stuff that separates us and let's all pull together.

The apology (even though the resolution was very specific NOT to apologize) is an attempt to sooth the pain many Americans feel (pain is real to you if you feel it..it matters not what others may think).

Why get your drawers bunged? Agree that slavery was a very bad deal for AMERICA and for the slaves. Nothing was said about paying anybody any money. Let this heal us instead of separate us.

BTW, I am Irish and formerly Catholic and had my own dose of prejudice growing up in the 40' and 50's in Florida. I got over it.

The best advise anyone can offer now is to distance yourself from all of those consumed with hoplessness and despair. They are the only certain losers. Keep yourself with positive friends that have a plan for success and are willing to see their plans through. Then doors will open that you have never dreamed of before.

Always remember, you can reach your goals, they are acheivable if you stay positive and choose your company well.
