In a post this week a definition of “liberal” was posted (with out a corresponding definition of Conservative). Not only did I find it misleading in the scope and scale of its definition I like most people found it did apply to myself but only because it (wrongly) described aspects of political view points that are not addressed in the words Liberal or Conservative.

This is a link to a very small quiz that explains a lot about the four corners of political opinion :

http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html

I have found that this test is pretty accurate and no mater how many times i take it (the questions change every so often) I am always a “centrist” leaning to Libertarian . This is true because I find that in a perfect world I would be a true hard core Libertarian , but I am willing to accept some level of government RE: Police and National defense...and not much els that the government is doing seems like a good idea to me !

For those of you who did not take the test this is what definitions are used for scoring :

Other Political Philosophies

Right (Conservative)

Conservatives tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently

support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional
values." They oppose excessive government control of business,

while endorsing government action to defend morality and the

traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong

military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market

economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.

Left (Liberal)

Liberals usually embrace freedom of choice in personal

matters, but tend to support significant government control of the

economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"
to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation

of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations,

defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action

to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

Libertarian

Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and

economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one
that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.

Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose

government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate

diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

Statist (Big Government)
Statists want government to have a great deal of power over the

economy and individual behavior. They frequently doubt whether

economic liberty and individual freedom are practical options in

today's world. Statists tend to distrust the free market, support

high taxes and centralized planning of the economy, oppose

diverse lifestyles, and question the importance of civil liberties.

I think most of you will find that you are NOT liberal or conservative but lean farther to Libertarian and statist ...and most of our arguments stem not from a trued ideological difference that can be described as LIV-V-CON but is far more often my Libertarian fighting your liberal as it leans to statist ...etc.

I put this up from time to time when i get tired of being hated for being a “Conservative”...based on the idea that I am against a laundry list of things I really don't care about .
And no I have no problem with being a Libertarian fact is most of the Neocons on this blog fall very close to the Libertarian side of the square ...need I add what we fight about most often and with who or why ?

Great post RNC. I rather enjoyer it. I passed the test at 80% CONSERVATIVE. I graduated High School in the top 15% on the SAT's. Seems logic and sound reasoning have been around in my life for some time ! LOL !!!!!

I've taken this test before several times, yet, I always go back and take it again. As usual, I score as a Libertarian, leaning towards Conservative.

There are a couple of questions I have trouble answering.

Military service should be voluntary. There should be no draft... Under normal circumstances, I agree. However, what if our country was under attack, or we were short of soldiers?

There should be no laws regarding sex for consenting adults... In most cases, I don't care what consenting adults do. But what if the activity they choose could result in serious injury or death to one of the partners?

I wish they could be a bit more specific.

I also noticed the site has 2 new bonus questions. When they ask who I supported, I noticed Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party. I never heard of the guy; I ended up "googling" him. He has some good ideas, but I don't think he has a chance at this point.

Ok I'm a Libetaristatist.... Sigh....

J-darrowin I think that a mandatory 2 year enlistment should be done. I think if we used the military to provide work on road and civil service we would see a reduction and spending and kids with a mature attitude when they hit the big world. Obviously it could be waved for college or other reasons but I still am for it. I know I'll get a lot of flack for this sentiment but it's just my opinion.

Go Libetaristatists!!!!

J_Darrowin make a good point on the context of some of the questions!

All volunteer force is good, we should bring it back to pre 97 levels, and give back the 180 Billion a year the Democrats have skimmed off of it too! We pay a higher price now for letting the Defense go to pot in the 90s.

Women should be required to register for selected service! While direct combat is still out of the question, if we are going to truely be equal, then the Women's Rights folks should be demanding this! (then we can talk about Father's Rights).....

I know some of the questions are hard to take, but that is what makes it impossible to be a perfect “Libertarian” or “Conservative” or etc in the real world. I to lean hard to the idea of 2 years mandatory service (even tho it is far from Libertarian) because teens are so direction less and a short hitch in a safe environment would do far more good than harm...and yes they could/should build roads and levees etc

...all volunteer ? How about we do what most European country's do 2 years mandatory (its pay back for that Free education we gave you brats!) and IF recommended by your superior you can enlist after that and gain rank ...must of the “mandatory” grunts work in the engineer corp (building bridges , levies etc and picking up after disasters) ...as far as woman in uniform I never did care what gender my assistant gunner was as long as he/she/it could and would carry their share of the load !...I saw plenty of boys that could not cut it and I am sure there are 4 or 5 woman in this country that could keep up with me !
