If Myanmar doesn't want aid from us then to heck with them! That is an ungrateful tyrannical government for you!

Going once...going twice.......Gone!

RandyLoo, remember George Bush turned down many offers of aid to Katrina victims. Many nations offered and most were rebuffed.

I think he did accept Israel's help - the cruise ships used to house personnel. For a fee of course.

We can't really throw stones on this one.

44,000+ dead. What a massive disaster. I'm glad to read it didn't take five days to get the ball rolling to help the survivors under this 'ungreatful tyrannical government'.

Still Disgusted at the "Heck of a Job" done w/Katrina,

Who did he turn down? Wooly stinkin blankets from the Ukraine, Military rations from blitzokrania dating back to WWII? Dollars and cents from who and how much? The Carnival Cruise lines aren't Israeli ships. They are owned by a USA Citizen who has dual citizenship, they aren't owned by the Israel gov't.
I am not throwing stones at anyone. I simply stated if they do not want our help then forget about it!
Constant Bush Bashing on every single blog anyone posts here is getting a little tiring and boring. Our heads are getting a little bruised. I think you guys have pretty much beaten us to a pulp.

I believe the Danes offered up help w/the levees but were 'politely' turned down. I think even Castro tried to get in on relief. Sincere or not.

RandyLoo, pre-Katrina I'd have agreed w/your sentiments about a country that turns down aid or might be slow to react to save their citizens.

Post-Katrina is a different story. George Bush happened to be the President during the failures of Katrina so his name being mentioned with those failure cannot be avoided. Not to pick on the poor guy. It's hard work being President. He's said so many times.

Our Coast Guard kicked butt! Our federal, state and local governments did not.

We have no leg to stand on now and say "Hey! We're better than that!".

We should keep that in mind as Hurricane season rolls around. Be prepared to be on our own. For a while. It's only responsible. We live in an era where it takes 5 days to get massive amounts of bottled water to a region in our own country. Where it used to take 3.

It's a sad tragedy. Thousands of people lost their lives or loved ones. At least there are countries willing to offer support. Even if it is rebuffed. For whatever reason. That's the good thing in this I guess? There is still the gesture of generosity to a fellow human.

Moon,

You are so right! New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin should have helped those people get out with all those busses! Wait, that's not what you meant failure. Remember, the federal government cant come in until the state askes the. The governor messed that up and then blamed the President. As for any aid turned down, it was only token crap like the blankets RandyLoo mentioned or it was stuff we already had enough of! The Danes offer of help for the levees was what? Design assistance? I can see the Danish people now crafting their aid...."Magnus, You go help the American plug a hole. How much is a plane ticket again?"

As for Myanmar's rebuke of aid....screw'em. I don't want to send aid that will just line the pockets of their military junta government. Hate to put it like that but it's their call.

Nagin's failures were included in my statement. I did include "Local" government in my sentence along w/state and federal.

There were failures across the board. Those failures showed where things need improvement. Too bad no significant improvements have been made. Unfortunately, Streamlined and Government don't do well in a sentence together.

That reminds me, I wonder what ever happened to that kid w/the suspended dl who got one of the buses and started helping people get out? Last I'd read they were gonna bust him for breaking the law.

I see the number is up from 44,000 to over 100,000 people dead.

How totally sad.

The thugs are eating prime rib while the people suffer.

This makes you thankful that you live in a country as great as ours.

YellowD,

I did say you were "so right". I was trying to point out that the screw-ups started on the local level but the President seemed to get the brunt of the blame.

We might have our faults in this country but we can count our blessings that we dont have thugs like those in Myanmar handing out aid when we need it.

Moon,

It is sad. Sadder still that we cant help them propperly without their government scraping their take off the top.

Grew up in the good ol' 50's and 60's. I am opininated, sappy, sentimental and love my Country..but hate where it is headed (socialists scare the bejeebers out of me). I want to retire but can't afford to do so. Love the outdoors. Believe in right to carry arms for protection and sports. Married to a wonderful guy that knows the way to my heart is buying me a load of potting soil from the rock and gravel man.
